How To Become A Heated Sports Debater Being an sports debater can be fun and very frustrating at times. Sports debaters are reliable to the public because of their information about sports. It is also a time for people that love sports have a very ,sometimes heated, discussions about the sport they enjoy. To become the best sport debater a person must learn as much as they can about the sport, become knowledgeable about statistics, and never be biased. Becoming known with the history of the sport teams and players is a must before debating with someone. Knowing the history helps with arguments and comparing different eras and show you are not a bandwagon,a person going with the hype. History of teams is knowing their great players and the team changing moments. Knowing great players go hang-and-hand with the team changing moments, because it is when the franchise becomes more relevant. MIchael Jordan, former basketball player,is one of the most well-known basketball player and athletes of time.Jordan changed the Bulls organization around by winning 6 championships, 5 most valuable player, ten all-NBA …show more content…
Never ignore facts cause you like or dislike a player, best thing to do is take the information and use it in the future because it will be needed. Always give valuable points about individual players. Sometimes stats is not always number. Mentally players could be better than one with better stats because the player could play best when it matters most. Kobe Bryant, former basketball player for Los Angeles Lakers, is another great player that gets compared to James. He average 25.0 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists for a career. Stats show James is a better player but Kobe always showed up when it matters most.Kobe has won 5 NBA playoffs out of 7. Lebron has won 3 NBA playoffs out of 5.
Becoming a sports debater is fun and rewarding cause of the social talks with others and gaining knowledge about what so many people
Michael Jordan is considered to be the most iconic person in sports history. Since 2002, Lebron James has been compared not only to be the next Michael Jordan but also having the potential of being a better basketball player than him. Some basketball fans might agree and some might disagree, but at the end of the day everyone will have their own opinion of who is better than whom. Lebron James and Michael Jordan do have many things in common even though they play different positions in the national basketball association. They both can dominate the court with their leadership, their skills, and their strength. Surprisingly, there are just as many differences as there are similarities between the
Central Idea: LeBron James is the best basketball player by his scoring ability, his athleticism, and his world-class defense.
Throughout history there have been many topics that have divided people based on beliefs/interests, some are more personal and private, such as religion and politics, some are loose topics that are purely based on preference such as fashion and food while others are meant for argueing and are based on facts such as cars and sports. The difference in between the latter and the other topics mentioned, is that there can be a right answer due to facts. For example it is a fact that FC Barcelona soccer player Lionel Messi has accomplished more in terms of trophies and goals than Cristiano Ronaldo, yet the argument as to whom has had a greater impact on their era is still up for debate("15 Major Achievements of Lionel Messi."). Basketball’s biggest
The essay that I have read in class emphasis about how dangerous of a sport football can be too high school students, to college students, and to professional N.F.L players. I have read multiple articles explaining to us how harmful playing football can be. Reading this article's made me think if playing football in high school and in colleges is fine. In my opinion, I do not think students should play football in high school because they have a higher risk of getting hurt. Above all, football is that that harmful to college and professional NFL players as it is too high school students. On the other hand, it is but since they've been playing for a long time they're used to it more than a regular high school student. When it comes to young boys playing football in high school, it could be a little more dangerous. Meaning that since most of the kids in high school are still between the ages of 15 through 18 their brains are still not fully developed. There are three reasons on why I don't think that high school students should not play football. My reasons would have to be because their brains are still not fully developed, they could get hurt and perhaps die, and because students don't have the right equipment to be playing.
I have participated in Speech and Debate throughout my years in high school. Speech and Debate is the school activity that I use to express my creativity, ideas, and opinions. I competed in many events over the past 4 years: Humorous Interpretation, Congressional Debate, Duo Interpretation, and Impromptu Speaking.
LeBron really is. Today’s sports fan obsesses over the art of arguing over things such as best team, best coach and of course, best player. The debate may even be most alive in the NBA. Basketball is very much a team sport, but it has the ability for one player to take over. That is why basketball fans like to compare great players of different times, like Jordan and James. This particular topic is almost the stepping stone for all other debates. These players are very often compared by sports media. For example, this Sports Illustrated article describes a scene in new movie “Bad Teacher” where the main character has a quick argument over LeBron and MJ with a student, “a teacher and a middle school student arguing about Michael Jordan and LeBron James. It is the truest sports scene I've seen in a long while. It's about me. I have become a grumpy old man, a bad teacher. I cannot even listen to the Jordan versus LeBron arguments” (Posnanski). It is also popular in the music industry. In the song “Sideline Story”, rapper J. Cole gave his stand on the popular sports debate, “But, you'll never play me like LeBron vs. Jordan, twenty years, wonder who they gone say was more important. Both changed the game, came through and made a lane. Who's to say that who's greater, all we know, they ain't the same.” Clearly, this is not the first time the idea of comparing these great athletes has come
For example, Reggie Miller said Michael Jordan is “tougher to guard” and “ten times better on his worst day [than] Bryant on his best day”. David Stern, a former NBA Commissioner, also stated on the phone, during a live television show, that “ Michael Jordan had great moments in his career, as he was the greatest of his time.” Lastly, Scottie Pippen, a former teammate of Michael, called Michael Jordan a “lockdown defender” meaning the other team couldn’t get the
In my first tournament, out of 100 debaters, I placed 4th. With two weeks of preparation, I managed to powerfully and persuasively relay my viewpoints while eclipsing three-fourths of my competition. I realized that not only did I enjoy debating, but I found my niche.
In my sophomore year of highschool, I joined the policy debate club. Policy debate was an intensive academic activity where teams of two would engage in discussions on the best government 's policy to enact. There would be two teams in each debate round: affirmative or negative. The affirmative would have to propose a policy that the U.S federal government should enact based on their constructed advantages for implementation. After that speech, the negative team would have to make arguments, for examples, kritiks, disadvantages, and counterplans, to refute the implementation of the plan. Throughout an almost two hour debate round, both teams will try to speak almost 500 words per minute in order to respond to arguments. As one can imagine, debate is fast paced activity that boils down to which team can best defend their arguments. Within in this debate round, there would be a judge to decide the winner.
In the “Help will always be there” evidence it is evident that debaters will always help other debaters. This also references the evidence in which people in debate feel superior for the reason that they feel that helping others makes them better than those who don’t. This also applies to those who run affirmatives in which they discuss social issues that affect minorities, since they feel the need to help those in pain, however most claim to be a part of that minority. Nevertheless, the debate community is full of people who believe that they are actually creating change when they debate. This is evident in the piece of evidence called “Differing Views of Debate.” Both teams were willing to risk the round to chance seeing that they felt like the debate space is a place for education and community and that a discussion of issues would be more productive in creating change. However, no one else is the room to hear this discussion and thus the ideas and messages conveyed during the discussion wouldn’t likely move far past the room. On the other hand, as indicated in the evidence “Why we do debate,” there is a whole heap to learn by doing debate. The author of this comment clearly shows the valuable skills one learns from doing debate such as, greater political knowledge, better speaking skills, greater philosophical knowledge, and research skills. These can all shape the student to
Have you ever felt the nerve of tryouts? Every kid gets it when they are trying out for something in their life. Youth competitive sport tryouts have been a hot topic recently. Sport tryouts are times when your nervous and have 210% of anxiety. You try your hardest to the sport team you love. Some people say tryouts are fair and some people think they are not, for example bias coaches. Although some critics argue coaches are bias, tryouts for youth competitive sports are fair because the coaches want to get the best team and the kids with the most talent. Sport tryouts also make kids work harder for what they want.
I was recently informed that Maranatha Christian Academy was looking into starting a debate team. The Odette School of Business runs a semi-annual High School debate called the Richard Peddie Debate Tournament. If you have any questions about debate in general or the tournament I would be happy to help you out. We also have two tournament directors that would be willing to run a tutorial with your debate team.
I felt as if I got every answer I wanted when I fired a question at them and then it truly showed their weak points within their debate. I feel I could improve as a rebudler. I say this because it was difficult evaluating the process in which I should expose them. It was also difficult because you had to write down everything they said and it was tough to keep up with the other person speaking given the speed they were talking. I felt as if I improved as a public speaker from doing this debate. The reason I feel this way is because this showed people I have a serious side to myself when I speak in front of my peers. This also helped me because the next day I had a slideshow presentation in my English class explaining why teachers should make more than athletes. This presentation had almost no flaws when I had presented it and this showed that I can be serious as I said
Debate has been the defining factor of my high school career. There are few clubs at Kent that provide the same opportunities as Speech and Debate; building confidence, responsibility, and teamwork between participants. As the program grows, it is important that the commitment and ideas of captains grow with it. I believe that every student has the ability to be successful in debate, and the only thing standing between average debaters and good debaters is the commitment and passion one brings to practice, tournaments, and assignments. It is the responsibility of the captain to provide the resources and environment in which debaters can learn. The status quo debate system discourages this environment, setting norms that discourage new debaters from continuing the activity. A productive environment must include a structured agenda, transparency, and communication between both the debate teams, as well as between the Speech and Debate team as a whole. While in past years having a flexible schedule has worked, it creates a disorganized environment where coaches and captains are unable to determine which students are
This past Friday the Odette School of Business, at the University of Windsor, held the Richard Peddie High School Debate Tournament. The Richard Peddie High School Debate Tournament is a semi-annual invitational debate tournament for Windsor area students ranging from grades 9-12. 130 students were able to attend this semester coming from 10 schools from around the area. Students use logic and their argumentative skills to outweigh their opponent’s arguments. This year was different with the addition of motions of the last two rounds. Ethan Wuerch and Callista Gagnon took home best Junior Male and Junior Female awards respectively. As well as Marcus Deans and Mirna Eshaya were awarded Best Varsity Male and Varsity Female respectively. Assumption
