Growing up in southeast Texas, football is rite of passage for young boys. It is used to teach lessons about teamwork, winning and defeat, and to toughen young boys up and mold them into young men. Most boys start playing in the fourth and fifth grade and continue to play all the way through their senior year of high school. Over the years, the love of the game grows into a passion that is almost impossible to explain. All of this leads up to senior night, where you defend your home turf for the last time, unless you are forced against every ounce of your will to stand on the sideline in a jersey and blue jeans.
Every football team has a quarterback, but each teams quarterback may hold different responsibilities. The main objective for most every QB is to lead their team down the field to the end zone whether through their arm or legs, with some of the best being good at both passing and
“To say the first half of the season has been emotional would be a huge understatement. Getting hurt when you feel like you have the best team you’ve ever had was a soul crushing moment for me. Then to learn it’s not three of four weeks but 10 is another blow. And through it all you have a tremendous amount of guilt on having let your teammates, fans and organization down. After all they were depending on you to bring them a championship. That’s what quarterbacks are supposed to do. That’s how we’re judged. I love that. I still do.

Football Is The True American Pastime In today’s world of big time professional sports there are the two major players and they are football represented by the National Football League (NFL) and baseball represented by Major League Baseball (MLB). Now there are other sports that the American public enjoys watching, however the argument generally boils down to which sport is the true favorite of the American people: baseball or football. In this paper I will attempt to examine both sports from several different angles to include attendance, television revenue, ticket costs, venues, salaries, entertainment value, and athlete perception. “Are you coming with us to the hospital? Brayden is starting his chemo treatment.” The words came out of Andrew’s mouth, and my ears acknowledged sound but my brain didn’t absorb it. The reality of visiting a friend in the hospital who was going through such an intensive procedure didn’t register that it was actually happening until I was there experiencing it. Growing up, Brayden was never one to complain, always willing to go out of his way to help and quick with a joke to change anyone's mood. Seeing such a positively spirited friend already overcome cancer once, and then relapse didn’t make sense. My days which were supposed to be spent with Brayden on the football field were instead spent at the hospital. Witnessing Brayden’s struggle and perseverance was a painful but humbling experience for me. I realized that there is so much more complexity and adversity in the world around me than I ever knew. It opened my eyes to what I am capable of giving through my character and conception of leadership.
Playing football has had the most impact on the development of my character. I started playing football when I was 5 years old. Playing football has taught me many valuable lessons. While playing football, I have better understood the values of hard work. Football taught me that the only way to succeed in something is by working harder than anyone else. Football has also taught me that when working with a team, everybody has an important role and if one person slacks off it hurts the entire team. There is no “I” in team and teamwork is a valuable life lesson. Whenever teammates are focused on individual accomplishments, instead of the team’s success, the team as a whole does not perform as well. I have learned through this that when you
For as long as I can remember football has been a part of my life in some way, shape, or form. When I was first born my grandfather said that I was solid and built to play football. I used to throw the football with my mother when
