In the book, the Proctors are also involved in peer pressure from each other. John Proctor, at the end of the book, is about to be hung, but Reverend Hale is trying to give him another chance. John doesn’t want to go through with it, but after what Elizabeth says, “John, I counted myself so plain, so poorly made…Do what you will. But let none be your judge… Proctor: I want my life.”

In the Crucible Arthur Miller embodies Proctor as a tragic hero with many flaws but his fatal flaw was his pride which caused his demise. Throughout the play we witness Proctor’s transformation as a person from a sinful remorseless adulterer, repentant, and to an honorable man.

John Proctor is only reason mayhem started in Salem. It really all started with his urges as a man. By being a pervert to 17 year girl. Which caused jealousy and soon defrauding that affected others mentally and physically.

In the Salem witch trials about two-hundred people were accused of witchcraft, twenty of whom were executed. In, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, he presents a character known as John Proctor. He was considered a good-looking man almost to the point where he became intimidating. Ultimately, throughout the story, this character goes from being someone who could care less about others’ feelings, to someone who becomes nobler in a way. As it’s been noticed, John Proctor is a dynamic character that changes throughout the story.

John Proctor was a farmer in seventeenth century Massachusetts. He was married to Elizabeth Proctor. John Proctor was a leader not a follower. He was a man that everyone in the town looked up to. Proctor was a both strong physically and mentally strong. John Proctor was an extremely proud man, and many were aware of it . John Proctor wants to have a good character and reputation and he sees how important that is.

Admirable: a word which is used to describe someone whose actions exceed society's moral standards. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, John Proctor is an honorable man whose sin of adultery troubles him, but still sacrifices his life to end the unreasonable prosecution of the people in Salem. He is the most admirable man in the play because he consistently holds his pride despite the litigations against him, which gives him the power to stand up for his beliefs and help others in need.

He had an affair with Abigail Williams while she worked as a servant in his house. John is a powerful man in both build and character. " John Proctor is a tormented individual. He believes his affair with Abigail irreparably damaged him in the eyes of god, his wife Elizabeth, and himself. True, Proctor did succumb to sin and commit adultery; however he lacks the capacity to forgive himself." (www.cliffsnotes.com) John Proctor goes from being loved and well respected to a sinner and later on becoming a tragic hero which was surrounded by strong feelings and beliefs.

Proctoring exam means that someone will watch over or supervise in the duration of the exam.

John Proctor is a character that I truly hold close to my heart because our life experiences are very similar. He admits his wrongs, he is strong in his beliefs, and he is able to withstand temptation. I believe John Proctor is such a strong person inside and out because he has been through a lot and never gives up on his faith in God.

In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, John Proctor- the protagonist-is captivated by lust and commits adultery with an adolescent girl, whose actions paved the way for the infamous Salem Witch Trials in Puritan New England. Towards the end of the play, he conceitedly sacrifices his own life in the name of truth, instead of falsely confessing to consorting with the devil.
