Reflection Based upon the lectures of Professor Willmer I feel that I have benefited from my point of view and understanding of Professor Willmer. In the beginning, I was not sure what a profession was I usually though it was just a job and nothing more. When I listened to Professor Willmer I learned that there is more to a profession then meets the eye. Professor Willmer has helped me understand the values of a profession. I have learned about the importance of purpose and power in a profession. I discovered that a profession is an entity by culture, containing specialized knowledge and skills, for serving culture. The idea of responsibility being one of the keys of a role is very important because a role is a position one acquires as a part of their goals. It important to be responsible as it is a part of a duty to be diligent and vigilant in ones role. Privileges usually defined as a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. The importance of privileges in a role is significant due to value a role has on one’s authority. I have learned that power comes with accountability and that one may acquire a role but may or may not be prepared to fulfill it. I feel that a role is a major part of everyone’s life and that if a role executed correctly then that will be a success. Entitlements the fact of having a right to something and prohibitions having to limit something can be vital to a role. It is important to know your entitlements and your rights in a role. It is also essential to know your limits and prohibitions in your role as well. Knowing the difference can be the key form doing your part and completing the task. I am glad to have met professor Willmer as she has taught me about the purposes of power in a profession. I have learned a lot form here lectures and I will pass on this knowledge to my friends in the future as teacher in the field

The University of Alaska Southeast hosted the Power and Privilege symposium to give opportunity to community members and UAS students to voice their concerns about issues that are affecting our community. For example, the attendees where able to discussion issues about climate change and actions we can take to ensure the safety of our community. The Power and Privilege symposium gave community members the chance to voice their concern about issues they are passionate about.
