This in many ways helped shape and increase American power in the early 20th Century.

The American Foreign Policy gave more power to the United States, which meant America’s dealings with other countries around the world. The true meaning to this was LAND = WEALTH = POWER. The Open Door Policy in 1899 was passed due to Secretary of State John Hay which he used Social Darwinism to write the Open Notes that opened the trading rights in Asia to the U.S. and other Western European Countries. A war broke out between Spain and U.S. when a letter was written criticizing the U.S. president and the explosion of the U.S.S. Maine. United States wins the war and gains Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. After That, U.S. Helped Panama gain independence from Colombia in return of building the Panama Canal which created a shortcut for military ships in the west coast to get faster to the east coast. Years pasted until in 1914, a war in Europe broke out due to the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. United states stayed out of the war until 1917 due to four causes unrestricted submarine warfare, the sinking of Lusitania, economic relations with England and finally the Zimmerman Note. The note pissed off President Woodrow Wilson so he decides to declare war on Germany. The war was just trench warfare that led to new inventions. The war ended in 1918. Woodrow Wilson used his 14 points, which helped
The progressive Era was times in History were local state and federal government took a leap forward in power and activism. In addition, the progressive era, was a time of development of new reforms and changes for America. Progressivism handles a wide range of problems and struggle for America. Such problems were created by unstructed industrialization, urbanization and immigration. As well as, the unfavorable distribution of power and wealth. Progressives believed strongly that problems such as these needed immediate action. Progressives existed in churches, organized labor, local political life, organizations and progressives of high education. Progressives wanted to make America better through inniatives, arranged action, idealism and social scientific research. Progressive had a tendency to expect the best possible outcome of situations. By, the 1920’s, progressives put in effect, changes of all aspects of society and government. Nevertheless, progressives had unhonorable qualities as well. They were biased of class and prejudiced against races.
The Progressive Era was a period that changed America greatly due to political reforms and social activism. This era brought forth many changes in America and almost all Americans were involved in this movement somehow. This period began in the late 1800s and lasted until the mid-1900s. The Progressive Era was one of the biggest movements in America. The main point of this movement was to purify the government. Several historians have wrote excerpts on their perspective of the Progressive Era. George Mowry, Joseph Huthmacher, and Glenda Elizabeth Gilmore are three key Progressive historians. In their writings, each of the historians explain who the Progressives were, who was affected during this time, events that took place in the community and government, and other topics.
In the first article, The Failure of Progressivism by Richard Abrams, he says the progressives mostly sought to introduce old moral beliefs on Americans by trying to integrate Immigrants by making them accept the ways of American life. But Abrams states those goals were ruined for important motives. One being the movement failed because of racism, which was widespread, throughout this time era. Abrams also considers the new scientific developments concerning culture and race affected the movement in a relevant manner. Conversely, progressives thought differently and felt that they need to integrate all cultures to fit it in to the American lifestyle. Abrams goes on to say that people started coming to the conclusion that “cultural
The Populist and Progressive movements impacted history in agricultural living as well as industrial living through contributions to social awareness. Women suffrage evolved during these times, while segregation took strides backwards. The movements caused several events to occur and affected politics. In many ways, the movements shaped aspects of United States’ history that are significant and relevant
Another major foreign policy action was the entry to World War I. On August 4, 1914 there was an outbreak in Europe. A war started between the central powers and the allied powers. The central powers consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungry, and the Ottoman Empire. They were also known as the Triple Alliance. The Allied Powers, also know as the Triple Entente consisted of Britain, France, and Russia. An immediate cause of the war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914. Some long term causes that started the war were militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. America tried to keep themselves isolated from the war in Europe. Before the war, America had an idea of neutrality. Neutrality is when American lives and property is not threatened. There was great ethnic diversity in the United States which led to a public union about war. The United States also had the idea of freedom of the seas. This meant the routes for trading were open. The United States had the desire to trade with both the central and the allied powers. The United States had a great economic interest in the war at this time. There were many different
The progressive movement is a middle class response to take on the problems that was caused by the industrialization in the rapid social change that took place during the civil war. It is a collection of reform movements. The progressive era was when reformers or activists who were working to solve the problems in the American society and the government were trying to end the laissez-faire. The root of progressive started during the glided age. This era started in 1890 and ended in 1920. A solution was needed to eliminate all the problems that was faced over the years. The fight for social justices include social reforms, women’s suffrage movement, and political reforms.
Immigration, the word that seems to keep coming up on the news every day. Many people around the United States think of different things whenever this word comes to mind. Throughout the years, the immigration system has tremendously changed, and so have some people’s views on immigration. People no longer come from crowded boats, but some still get treated as they do. People no longer have to take an education test or medical test, yet if one lacks in those areas they get treated similarly to how they were treated during the Progressive Era. America has changed, but it hasn’t really changed in ways. America may have replaced some laws, but it’s new laws have a similar impact as the older ones did. Although some of America’s immigration policies have changed over the years, immigration to America still remains a broken system. Immigration laws still prevent people from getting jobs, discrimination towards immigrants is still around, and many immigrants are not given good jobs or living conditions.
The progressive movement was primarily a reform movement. The movement was pivoted to cure many of the problems of the American society that had developed during the great emission of industrial growth in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. In this Era, the boundary had been restrained, great nations and businesses developed as well as overseas empire established but all citizens were entitled to share the new wealth, optimism and prestige. Therefore, the main goals of the movement were to eradicate the problems cause by immigration, urbanization, industrialization as well as corruption in the government. The movement was succeeded by several progressives who included politicians, writers as well as social welfare advocates who ensured that society would develop as a result of government action.
Background-The Progressive Movement was an effort to cure many of the ills of American society that had developed during the great spurt of industrial growth in the last quarter of the 19th century. Progressives were mostly middle-class citizens who saw corruption and wanted change in society.
The Progressive Era brought great change for America. The movement emerged during a time of great need in America. Corruption and poverty were continually growing problems. The Progressive Movement brought change for business and politics, and it also improved the daily life of an American. Looking back, the movement had its flaws. It lacked togetherness, and not all of its changes lasted.
Peter Filene's article presents the idea that Progressivism was not a movement at all but more of a jumbled mess of similar ideas that occurred around the same period in history. Filene “seeks to prove that ‘the progressive movement’ never existed.” (Article 1, p. 20) He believed that there are too many discrepancies between the ideas of different historians and that if it were an actual movement that the definitions of the progressive movement/era would be consistent with each other. The only real agreement that Filene finds between the many differing opinions is the goals of the time period. He includes as the “standard list of progressive objectives… constraints on monopolies, trusts and big banking interests; regulation of railroad rates; lower tariffs; the direct primary; initiative, referendum and recall; direct election of U.S. Senators; women’s suffrage; child- and female- labor laws; pure food and drug laws and conservation.” (Article 1, p. 21) Filene explains the discrepancies between the many historians’ views. He then asks the question, with so many different initiatives and so many different groups working towards similar goals how it can be considered
“What was the Progressive Movement?”[1] Historian Peter G. Filene presents this question in his article, “An Obituary for ‘The Progressive Movement’”, in order to introduce the reality that for decades scholars struggled to propose an answer to this question. They have and still do struggle because there are many ways to consider this question and qualify the Progressive Era: such as its definition, time frame, significant turning points and important people, goals, successes, and failures. Given these ways of explaining the Progressive Era expressing its ideas appears to be a daunting task.
The Progressive movement was an effort to cure American society of many of the ill
The Progressive Era is the general movement to reform society by increasing government role in America. Progressivism is led by the educated middle-class. Progressives want monopolies, the control of services and prices, to be gone. The effectiveness of Progressives and federal government in bringing change at a national level included solving social problems, equal rights, and the voting system. During the Progressive Era, Progressives and the federal government attempted to solve social problems, promote equal rights, and reform the voting system.

Their job opportunities expanded and working women became a
