In chapter five, “Facility Design and Planning”, the text talks about the design and planning of an athletic training room and how the best ones are those that have undergone comprehensive planning before its development. Spacing, lighting, accessibility, and traffic flow are key elements that should be considered in the planning of an athletic training room. The process will also include collaboration with internal and external stakeholder and contractors.

This controversy revolves around the stadium meant to be the host for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations was to build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won the stadium commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. As a result, ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the previously voiced criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC) canceled the firm’s plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into the issue by announcing that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and that the project would be started from scratch. This issue ended up being referred to as the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium controversy and one of the major architectural controversies of 2015 (Dezeen magazine, 2015b). This paper,

Constructions project management involves the direct and daily monitoring of all construction activities and tasks, including all the construction methodologies that is being applied, as well as the personnel that directs or guides the project through every single stage or phase of its life cycle. It is pertinent to know that not all constructions jobs might not be successfully completed due to some changed conditions or unforeseen circumstances beyond control like the effects of nature and differing site conditions. Some of the constructions projects get rejected or are abruptly cancelled due to reasons best known to either the contractor or the client as the case maybe, but whatever happens regardless. Proper and effective closure is always needed on all constructions projects.
FEP is extensively used in large scale and capital intensive industrial and processing projects to assess the various unknown factors that may affect the project performance and success adversely. The Construction Industry Institute (CII), has performed several studies on the front end planning process which is regarded now as one of the best practices promoted by the CII. CII has also developed a toolkit which can assist the owners and contractors in maintaining consistency and effectiveness to carry out the planning process (CII 2016). The FEP process includes the definition of missions and objectives for the project, development of the project scope, basic design requirements, cost benefit analysis, financial management of the project, project organization and execution plans and various risk factors that must be analyzed and mitigated. FEP when performed improperly can lead to insufficient definition of project scope, cost overruns, schedule delays and change orders. The pre project planning is followed by the detailed design and engineering of the project (NAP 2001).
