A person's hatred of others is created by lies in over exaggerations. America has been known as the land of the free, home of the brave, and the great melting pot of the world. With mixes here and there or so it seems. In reality the streets of America were divided. Italians here, Greeks over there, Blacks here, Asians there. It was always us against them mindset that has plagued the American society causing people to label those not like them as dark and evil. The power of the news, radio, and movies seeded the hatred and fear toward those who “were not American” meaning immigrants, second generations, and or African-Americans. Propaganda is what it was called the spread of exaggerated news which played an intrical part in people's daily life. …show more content…

Police made sure to take great opportunity to reveal the dangers of the protesters with the connections of race further proving how dangerous Sacco and Vanzetti were to the public. “ “The Globe and Mail” Canada's most read daily newspaper” had an article written by Colin Freeze whom wrote that “ The seizure (of ammunition) is striking police for fears about what they could be up against when the protesters a mass during the G8/G-20 summit next week.” ( Remember Sacco and Vanzetti). For instance the Ku Klux Klan with the background of being just a “silly social club”. This clan was started by six Confederate soldiers because of their boring job with daily lives. Was and still is known to be the “oldest terrorist group.” This all began in December 1865 when the six man was sitting in a law office in Pulaski, Tennessee (Heinrichs 8). All of these men were inserted deep in boredom so they started a social club. When they started they wanted to become “secret and mysterious” leading them to invent secret handshakes and passwords. No one outside of this call was to share the names of the members or passwords. They came up with the name “Ku Klux it was based on the greek word Kyklos meaning circle another member adult clan because it sounded cool.”(Heinrichs 8). At first the clan was in the sense seeing as a joke they mostly wanted to cause some little trouble and say that “they were ghosts of the dead Confederate soldiers.” Slowly the clan got bigger giving them a sense of power so with this they wanted to make the laws they found fit(Heinrichs 8). White Americans saw African-Americans as a threat to their lifestyle as others feared African-Americans will take revenge for “their lives in slavery.” So buttons hunting terrors in former slaves was justified. While time of reconstruction plan became more organized and tremendously serious. After another group conference the clan agreed to have a
The Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK, was thriving in its second generation during the 1920s. The Ku Klux Klan was reborn by William J. Simmons, with the intentions of creating a world with only one race. Simmons’ inspiration came from the film, “Birth of a Nation”. The Ku Klux Klan became more hateful and violent than ever, creating a sense of fear among not only African-Americans, but Jews, Catholics, and immigrants too.
Through research and evidence, it is clear that the historical interpretations of the origins of Klan and its establishment as an organization and its origins have changed over time. Starting in 1906, historians argued that the Klan was a benevolent, social organization, working as law-enforcers to help maintain a distinct social order between Southern whites and newly freed slaves. Completely ignoring the violence produced by the Klan, historians depicted the Klan as a positive, well-rounded organization. The second historical interpretation shone a new light on the Klan, exposing it for its violent and racially motivated actions. Historians argued that the Klan’s establishment was as a political organization that made a negative and lasting impression on all of U.S. history. The third and final interpretation argues that the Klan was established as a result of a struggling planter class. Historical interpretations during this time period describe the main goal of the Klan as wanting to answer to the desires and goals of the planters’ class. Because of this, historians during this era never saw the Klan as being an obstacle for newly freed slaves nor did they see the Klan having a negative effect on society. In conclusion, it is evident that historical interpretations develop and
The 1920s proved to be hysterical in Braintree, Massachusetts. Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were Italian immigrants during a time period that showed great animosity to foreigners. In the presence of two crimes, one a robbery and assault, the other a holdup and murder, Sacco and Vanzetti were ultimately executed with minimal evidence to support the allegations against them. In the presence of prejudice, acts of injustice to another are inevitable. A witness arraigned Vanzetti of committing a crime based on the overgeneralization that all foreigners run the same. The judge adjudicating the trials disclosed to a friend of a noted humorist about his intentions to have Sacco and Vanzetti executed based solely on the fact that they were
As reconstruction begin, many whites in the South seemed to ignore the fact that Blacks were no longer slaves. The Southern states created laws called ‘Black Codes’ that restricted the rights of the freed slaves. “Black codes were laws that were passed in each of the former confederate states following the civil war that applied only to black people.” (Hine, Darlene Clark, et al. 303) The laws highlighted that blacks have no right to vote in elections. However, after the troops were sent to the South, Blacks’ right to vote and involve in public office were secured. Many whites complained about the policy, and some of them created secret organization called Ku Klux Klan. This group tried everything including extreme and inhumane violence to
- The most notorious organization was the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan was organized in Pulaski Tennessee, in 1866 to intimidate former slaves who voted and apprehended political offices during Reconstruction. The Ku Klux Klan history came all about with the situation in the South following the harsh Civil War. The Southern States were in distraught and the defeated white people were humiliated and felt like they had to get revenge and gain their power back. The goal of the original Ku Klux Klan was to fight against the Reconstruction policies of the radical Republican Congress and to maintain "white supremacy. The Klan was led by merchants, planters, and Democratic politicians. They considered themselves as the most respectable citizens
During the age of paranoia 1920s, the rebirth of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was started back in a church by a pastor; the KKK was first found in 1866, and settled down in 1890s. The name of the KKK was derived from the Greek word kyklos, which means "circle." Also, part of the Paranoia was two Italians, Sacco and Vanzetti they were convicted of robbery and murder; they were the main people accused because there was not from American. However the final time in court they were rejected and sentenced to death. Most people feared the unknown, but we should not be judged by the color of our skin but by the content of our characters (doc. Martin Luther King Jr. I have a dream speech). It was not fair for people to falsely accuse Sacco and Vanzetti, just because of there race and there different skin color. Furthermore, the Emergency Quota Act (EQA) also known as Emergency Immigration Act of 1921, this act was put in place since they wanted to limited the numbers of immigrants who would be admitted from any country annually to 3% (but soon the act dropped 1%) of the number of residents from that same country who lived in the United States (http://www.princeton.edu/). The age of paranoia was a respectable name from this event because the paranoia was the fear of the unknown. They fear the unknown for the reason that they did not know what to except next and how to
The most famous white supremacy group in American history is the Ku Klux Klan (a.k.a. The KKK) and aimed to “cleanse” the American population of black people and was used to launch attacks on black people and the people that advocated and supported their rights. The group was founded in 1865 in Tennessee by 6 members of the Confederate army and gained an immense amount of followers over the next 80 years. At its peak, the group reached around 6 million members on a global scale, extending the racism and hate worldwide. The activities of the hate-group became extremely violent as they started cross burnings, executions and mass parades to advocate their anti-civil rights movement. Eventually, they also started targeting other minorities in America, such as Jewish people, who have also faced a large struggle for rights and freedoms throughout history. Eventually, the people started to fight back against the KKK and although it still continues today as a group with an extremely small amount of members, numbers were drastically reduced, their hate crimes subsided and the black people of America once again started to regain their rights and
This started “the rise of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) it grew more during the beginning of the 20th century. It was a “secret terrorist organization founded the Reconstruction” (Sonneborn 14).
White patronage brought along organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan (also known as the KKK). Organizations such as the KKK wanted to end races, cultures, and also many religions. The KKK founder first official act was to climb to the top of a mountain and set a cross on fire to mark the rebirth of the Klan. The Klan then switched to targeting only blacks during the 1920’s (www.yale.edu). A couple of years
During the 1800’s the United States was consumed by racial tension and discrimination. The African American people wanted to be equal to the white people, and the white people felt the African Americans shouldn 't be. This caused many uprisings and the formation of groups based on belief. One very infamous group was the Klu Klux Klan. They were a group based on hate and violence towards African American people. The KKK eventually extended into every state, victimizing any African American they could.
Kieu Tran manipulatively wrote her article with a concerning tone to express her opinion on what child abuse is considered in America versus other areas of the world by explaining asian ethics and giving stories on issues with child discipline when coming to America. In Tran’s article, she addresses the issue that Asians face with disciplining their children in America versus in their own country. In Asia, it is considered ok to hit your child to teach them a lesson, but in America it is considered abuse. Kieu is trying to explain to people that hitting your child once in awhile is apart of parenting and is completely different from abuse. The point she’s trying to get across is that spanking your child causing a slight, brief pain is not
During the past month of March, I’ve spent much of my time in the front desk of D’ Sanchez Salon. This beauty salon has belonged to my mom for the past 8 years. She’s run the business on her own, creating her own budget and calculating her revenue by hand each month. She has no business degree and has never been to college, so after I shared this project with her, she was excited to see what accounting could do to her business.
Unfortunately, thanks to the US Government’s involvement in the Reconstruction Era, white supremacist groups were created, most notably the Ku Klux Klan, or the KKK for short. While it was originally founded in 1866 as a group dedicated to stopping Blacks from
The Differences in Racism In the 1920’s racism was very open and the treatment of white men and white women were different than the treatment of black men and black women. The majority of racism happened in the south, while also across the nation. With the “KKK,” (Ku Klux Klan) who originated in Tennessee in 1866, The Klan employed various methods for terrorizing and intimidating the group is completely against blacks and the “KKK” was at first just a social group, but when blacks started gaining more and more rights, that social group became murderers and was the most feared organization in the U.S. The “KKK” is also still here till this day in some places in the United States but they are not as broad as they were back in their prime.
This paper is reviewing the film The Day After Tomorrow and how it portrays the climate changes and how the environment is effected due to the negligence of the humans that inhabit it. The Day After Tomorrow is a film made to open the eyes of the public to what burning fossil fuels can do to our world. Although this film is fictional it is a not reliable educational source. The underlying premise of the events in the film is grounded in the established theory that rising global temperatures could lead to abrupt cooling by disrupting the currents of the North Atlantic.
