The techniques used to persuade the citizens contain very simple techniques of propaganda; plain folks and bandwagon are the two main ones. These types of propaganda are very useful and very easily caught on by the masses. What I mean by that is that everyone can either relate to the propaganda being used or have some sort of understanding of it. This by far is probably the most easiest and inexpensive propaganda to use as well as being simple with not much time to spend on producing in whatever way or form you decide to place it or put out.
The main things that hook are in the names themselves, bandwagon meaning; to follow or get something because everyone else is. Plain folks being what the name is, persuades you to feel that whatever characters in the propaganda are selling are just like you and are easily relatable to your life. To me every propaganda bad or good always has either plain folks or bandwagon. The other types of propaganda used are more flashy and easier to spot to the average person because of the fact that it may be too pushy or extra with what they are trying to sell you. Glittering generalities is one, only using very big grand words to provoke an emotional appeal attracting all audiences because of the vagueness of the words and promotion. Doing this by using only everything with positive feeling and fronts leaving gaps to show you that it is not 100 percent effective or proven in whatever case the propaganda is used in.

This may have been used to really provoke emotion during the war for example, calling someone a communist if they were to partake in certain activities or vice verse. Using this to maybe even fear monger the masses with name calling or promoting a negative symbol towards you with whatever they are pushing towards. There are so many ways it can go with name calling that it might be the most effective but hardly ever told of its
The image I choose to use for propaganda is a little boy wearing a Nazi hat, above the child it goes to say “is he your child? You don’t want that" and under that it says, "Buy WAR BONDS before is too LATE! “. I believe the purpose of this image is to say hey you don’t want your child to become a Nazi soldier. So if you buy war bonds everything will be okay. The reason I select this artifact is because the little kid caught my eye with his blue eyes, blonde hair, and the innocence of his smile.
During World War II, the use of propaganda was commonly used to get a point across or to encourage the citizens to do the “right thing.” An example of this is photograph 4 stating to “BUY WAR BONDS.” To win a war, it cost billions of money so this photo encourages the citizens to buy war bonds to contribute to the war. The photo also states “Keep him flying.” Those words state the reason why citizens would buy war bonds and if they bought some what the government would accomplish with
Totalitarian leaders used propaganda to persuade followers to believe that their country would be restored again. Propaganda is when information deliberately spread to help or harm a person, group, or institution. This allows people to be pursued by the leaders and gives the leaders the advantages. In document C, poster created by the Nazi government in 1938, encourages Germans to vote for the annexation of Austria. In the poster you can see that their is hands in air showing that Germany is always united. In this poster, you can see that at the top there are some letters, these letter in English means United Germany. At the bottom the word “Ja!” means YES!. This means that the people are proud of their country. In document B, a speech by
To some speakers and writers, propaganda is an evil instrument. The negative approaches make a part of the world think that propagandists hoodwink the population, use half-truths, lie, conceal and distort facts. Although there are many pessimistic perspectives, there are others who have a positive view and think especially of techniques, slogans, catchwords and other devices. They prefer effective language, the rhetoric way, to persuade the audience (Pan, 2012).
1. How much did the poster “Destroy this Mad Brute” rely on vilifying the German people? Do you think it was necessary?
Throughout the Nazis’ reign they employed many different types of propaganda to lure the public to their views and ideals. Propaganda lurked in even the most innocent of places waiting to entrap the unsuspecting mind and often targeting the young men of Germany. The Nazis use of propaganda was meant to appeal to the public through a sense of nationalism and fear of enemy nations. The propaganda was tailored to the public preexisting opinions and prejudices. These aspects along with the Nazis opportunistic style of propaganda made for a dangerous trap that threatened to ensnare all of Germany. The Nazis used opportunistic propaganda to convince a nation to follow in their ideals and actions.
The Cold War was one of the wars that made everyone hold their breaths and ponder would would happen next and when. The Cold War was a time period between 1947 to1991 in which the Western powers (US) and the USSR competed with each other in a tense rivalry and strive to outperform one another. It was also one of the key moments in history which spiked a motive and drive to develop and produce new strategies, weapons, and technologies. There was no actual fighting which took place (hence the name Cold War), but the two were always trying to best each other. The two superpowers often contested with each other militaristically, socially, politically, and economically. With this in mind: what weapons were used to fight the Cold War? Generally, Cold War weapons included the use of propaganda, nuclear weapons, and new technological development.
"Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people... Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea." ( Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, 1926).
Everyone has a right to express themselves in any way they want to. Saying and expressing your thoughts to people is an activity that everyone practices on a day to day basis, some might might think that because they have authority they have the right to teach or in force their views to the ones they are teaching and no one can tell them to stop because they have the right to talk. This is call freedom of expression and it is a fundamental right to every citizen of Canada, because it is a right it has to have a purpose and those who violate it have to pay the consequences. Just like the charges that R.V. Keegstra faced for exerting his right of freedom of expression.
In conclusion, there are 3 elements that should be thought of when analyzing propaganda. Diction to show how the persuade with words and language.Imagery and color to catch the eyes of citizens when they are out and looking. Also parallelism to show what is needed and what is important to the government. Propaganda is a big part of the world today to persuade and convince, these elements are
In Cross’s opinion, she believes people are bamboozled by propaganda because they fail to recognize when they experience it (248). The thirteen propaganda methods Cross describes in this essay include the following: Name-Calling, Glittering Generalities, Plain-Folks Appeal, Arguementum Ad Populum (Stroking),
Both negative and positive, propaganda affects our lives daily sometimes without us even acknowledging that it exists. The main goal of propaganda is trying to sell your product or idea to other people, one major form of Propaganda occurs in the news. Propaganda is used for companies and trend setters who want to get their products and ideas out in the world so that they could potentially become popular. Smart propagandists discovered that to create the best propaganda, the viewer must not even realize that the product or idea is being sold to them. Propaganda creates an extremely large impact on us and is sometimes mistaken for being “just another advertisement” when they actually change the way we live our lives.
Propaganda is performed through print, audio, and visual mass media. It is used for the promotion of the public’s activities in their life such as purchasing goods through market propaganda, and it is also found in politics, foreign affairs, and in many other fields. Most importantly propaganda is depicted in the informercialization of the news, which is connected with subliminal advertising and commercialization of public events and individual promotion such in communication websites. However, there is great debate over propaganda and persuasion that is casted in the media, which I will be elaborating in this essay.
When two planes went into the world trade center on 9/11, this attack was highly publicized, showing on almost every television, newspaper, and computer in America, and around the world. One commercial, after the attack, showed an American neighborhood, telling how 9/11 affected the nation. Before the attack, it was a typical American neighborhood, after the attack, every house was flying a flag. Was everything in the media accurately told? Manipulation is defined as controlling in a skillful manner. Many were on board with the war after all of this “breaking news terrorist attack” happened, which happened to be brought to the American people by U.S. news corporations, and the U.S. Government. There is a history of how government, and other media uses propaganda to control how we
There are two types of propaganda: sociological propaganda; the spreading of an ideology through the mass media, and political propaganda; efforts that are sponsored by governments and political groups that alter a persons’ interests. All propaganda has a direction, and the overall quality determines whether it will have a positive or negative effect over the masses. Our entire nation is a vast propaganda operational system that is greatly linked to education, consumerism and politics. A great deal of what makes up propaganda and how it is placed among the masses lies in understanding the overall emotional and physical states of these groups of people and in finding a way to draw a persons’ attention to capture their hearts, breaking down
