My son rescued a pit bull and with so many cats around I was worried about it. The simple answer is, right from the start they must be praised and scolded for whatever you consider ‘bad behavior’
No dog is mean or born killers. it’s the human training the dog that makes him whatever he will turn out to be.
Proper praise ‘Good Boy’ and proper scolding ‘NO!” will make sure your dog grows up to be well behaved.
PS make sure you keep the praise and scolding simple and repetitive. Animals do not understand language, they understand the sound of the words. We think bad boy, no, stop that, OMG is training him, but in fact, it only confuses them. So a simple “BAD” or “NO” used over and over they will understand the sound and know that what they are
Many dogs and cats will walk in and out of many shelters in the U.S. but many Pit Bulls will be able to walk out with a family. I tried to look for someone who has had experience within the kennels and to see firsthand the consequences of the negative reputation Pit Bulls in order to demonstrate the struggle that Pit Bulls faced. I met Jenna Keyes, a Humane Educator, who works for the St. Joseph Animal Shelter and deals with animal control and rescue. I walked into her office where the many pictures of animals on the wall cued to me that she clearly was an animal lover and I was in the right place for my interview. Keyes explains that before working at the shelter, she worked with horses and did dog training at boarding kennels. In addition,
Dogs are regularly called “man’s best friend”, however, there is one dog breed that is not getting much love, which is the Pitbull. Pitbull’s are notorious for attacking children and adults without warning and they are labeled the most aggressive dog breed for the past few decades. Some areas of the United States have even banned this particular breed from coming within city limits. However, the breed is bouncing back after a few decades of continuous bad rep. There are activist that state it is the owners, not the dog breed because aggression is learned. Pitbull's are a misunderstood dog breed that is feared because of their supposedly bad temperament and aggression; while in actuality, Pitbull’s are some of the most loving, loyal, and dedicated dogs that anyone could ask for.
ii. According to the Pit Bull Rescue Central web site, pit bulls have never been bred for human aggression. In fact, Pit Bulls were bred to be loyal, tolerant, and loving toward people, especially children.(Pit Bull Rescue Central website, accessed April 4, 2012)
The last source that I used to support my claim is that Pitbulls can be very helpful to the disabled and as emotional support animals. My source was a website https://esadoctors.com/pit-bull-emotional-support-animal/ and it states that “Pit Bulls can be wonderful emotional support dogs”.I believe this is true and one of the key factors of them becoming service or emotional support dogs goes back to my first peice of evidence is that they have to be trained. Now this does not mean that thery gonna attack the person their supporting it simply just means that they have to know how to handle their
In conclusion I feel like an efficient solution to the abuse of Pit bulls is to perform background checks on people trying to adopt “vicious” dogs. And also have someone vouch for them to prove that they are not adopting the dog for wrongful situations. Pit Bulls can be as loving as any other dog and don’t deserve to be discriminated against and banned in some places. They are beautiful dogs and deserve to be
A pit bulls actions can be determined by the way they are raise, you just happen to see all the bad stuff on the news. According to http://tvblogs.nationalgeographic.com “ pit bulls receive horrible press and the internet is full of misconceptions and untruths about the normally sweet and gorgeous breed of dog.” Pit bulls are discriminated on the internet for bad actions some people have witnessed. Some people believe these dogs are great but according to http://www.city-journal.org these dogs should be feared. “ Pit bull owners had converted the little park into a dog training ground, where they goaded their animals into attacking one another or taught the to hang from branches to strengthen their jaw and their tenacity.” This is how someone raised their dog to be, they either raise them to be fighters or sweet loving animals, it is not their fault. These dogs attitudes depend on their
Your dog is well-exercised and he understands that he needs to refer to you, so now is the time to teach commands. When you begin teaching your dog obedience commands, it will take practice. First, verbalize the command and attempt to get the dog to obey without any touching. For example, if you are teaching “sit”, you can draw the treat in a straight line form the top of the head. The dog will naturally follow the treat up and in turn his rear will go down. Repeat the command as he performs it and then give him praise. Repeat this several times with any command you are teaching so that he gets the hang of it.
When you get a puppy pit bull they are just young to train , and because everyone says pit bulls are guard dogs so they train them to make them mean to other humans , so that they can guard there property. But if you train them to be a cuddle dog , and a bonding dog , they will not be mean to anyone. Many people have trained there dog to be nice and friendly , I have seen it ! And I have also seen them being trained to be mean. When they were trained mean that's the only time there are vicious.
They aren’t born aggressive. A dog's breed has far less to do with aggression than owner-dependent factors such as how a dog is trained. If a dog was raised to fight or was brought up in a poor home environment, the dog is more likely to be aggressive regardless of its breed. The American Temperament Test Society evaluated the temperaments of various dog breeds, 85.3% of American Pitbull Terriers passed the test whereas other breeds such as Border Collies and Old English Sheep Dogs ranked in the 70th percentile. In many cases, the influence of owners have no effect on the conduct of the dog. Take Lilly, for example. Lilly was a Pitbull gifted to an alcoholic as a method of sobering her up. As any humans can infer, living with an alcoholic is no easy vocation, even for a dog. However, Lily’s hard home life didn’t clog her judgement. One night, Lilly’s owner passed out on a pair of train tracks with a train hot in pursuit. Thanks to none other than Lilly, her owner was pulled off the tracks just in time. Although her owner escaped without scratch, Lilly wasn’t as fortunate. Even with life-threatening injuries, Lilly remained by her owner’s side until help arrived. Ultimately, Lilly had to undergo several serious surgeries and ended up losing a leg. Lilly, a pitbull, put her inattentive owner’s life above her own. Even today, Lilly and her owner remain best friends even though that commitment almost cost her her
Most shelters and veterinarians can speak to the fact that dogs are greatly affected by previous and current owners. Dogs that have been neglected while they were puppies can negatively affect how they view people. Anxiety medication has become available to dogs and so has forms of therapy for dog’s social behaviors. The people who own “Pit Bull” breeds are more often than not those affiliated with illegal activity and violence. Veterinarian, Roger L. Welton, makes this statement “Pitt Bulls become a danger to society when they are purposely tormented and brutalized into being violent animals by sociopathic individuals who view the dogs as a means to elevate their status by having vicious dogs protect their property, or to make them money by cruelly fighting these animals with one another. It is the despicable human element that creates monsters where there were once innocent animals with the potential to make loving pets...Rather than blame the dogs for their irresponsible, often cruel treatment, we need to hold the people who mistreat them accountable for the consequences. Search and prosecution of these people needs to be more aggressive. Penalties need to be more severe, and the media needs to care more.”(Welton, "Web DVM") People that treat “Pit Bulls” violently lead to the dangerous behavior these dogs are known for. Most
Also, I’ll be adding my personal experience with dealing with Pit-bulls. A majority of people in the U.S have a stereotype against pitbulls. They think that they are a dangerous breed of dog and that they shouldnt be a family dog. For example, “A young boy named Kevin
also remember that these are animals who will do what they need to do in
A man could train his great dane to attack a personwho entered hisproperty just as easily as he could train a pitbull, with the same results. If a dog is raised properly, and shown love and affection and socialized from a young age, they can be good, loyal companionsand great pets. Thisfact does not apply to only certain breeds of dogs, but all dogs in general. The media overplays the “danger”of bullybreeds. In a study conducted bythe Canine Research Council, the local media was monitored on how many articleswere put out based on four dog bite-related
Every student is different, from how they learn to how much effort do they put in when studying. But with the right teacher guiding them to success, nothing is impossible. So, how do we motivate the future generation to succeed in school? The Perils and Promise of Praise, by Carole S. Dweck. The author focus on how to motivate students to succeed in school. From how you talk to them, motivate them to learn and rewarding them.
It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. In the last 14,000 years, dogs have accompanied man by helping him hunt, guard, and protect. In our modern world, dogs help us combat in war, search-and-rescue, guide the blind, deaf, discapacitated, rehabilitate patients in therapy, aid law enforcement, and are part of our family as beloved pets (Coren). Although canine superstars such as Lassie, Old Yeller, and Rin Tin Tin portray the perfect dog we all want in our lives, these ideals are far from the truth. Many first-time dog owners expect dogs to know behaviors such as how to walk on a leash, not bite, not destroy the house, and in addition to many others. In reality, dogs must be trained on what their handler wants them to do. It is
