Our program is a non-profit situated in a public school in New York City’s Lower East Side. We are located within a title-one school, with a vast majority of our students receiving free lunch. Our summer goals include the student’s transition to the next grade seamlessly, the ability for students to explore their own passions and have a collaborative talent show at the end of the summer. Our goals also include introducing our students to the wide range of cultural institutions which New York City has to offer. We provide our students with a safe space which allows them to grow in a social emotional and personalized setting.
If we had a Summer Teaching Fellow, we would utilize him or her as an important resource to our team. Their tasks would include, lesson planning, organizing resources and teaching a weekly class to his or her preference. This class could be anything as long as it is age appropriate and correlates to both the teacher and student’s passions. One idea could be a science, technology or math related class. In addition, they would help with educational administrative tasks such as, book organization to appropriate grade level, sorting resources to be used by the appropriate groups, inquiring about student passions and finding appropriate outside locations for the students to explore these passions. The Summer Teaching Fellow would be working with grades kindergarten to fifth grade.

Along with Jason, is myself, Rachel Herman. I am currently finishing up my masters in Childhood General and Special Education from Hunter College. I would love the opportunity to have a summer teaching fellow to teach what I know and utilize as an important resource with our
As the fulltime art teacher at the Eagle Academy for Young Men (EAFYM) Bronx campus for the past three years, I am proud to have had a significant role as a lead advisor of two special extensions ELO programs: Eagles in Flight Saturday NYC Exploration Club for 6th & 7th graders and Artack for 7th-12th graders at the Bronx campus. These programs are designed to enhance the learning experience of at-risk youth. Unlike their wealthier counterparts, students who are socioeconomically challenged do not have expansive places to play after school or a long list of activities to go to. These programs attempt to address that deficit. This paper will specifically address the philosophical and practical foundation of the NYC Exploration Club.
I’ve teach at numerous summer programs. The summer program I recently taught at is Summer Enrichment.
The Little Willie Center would be a great nonprofit organization to complete my service learning. The organization caters to school-age children whose parents may not be able to provide after school care. In addition to after school services the Little Willie Center offers numerous services such as tutoring/mentoring, transportation, nutritious meals, survival skill classes, PSR Big Buddy Program through the ECU Medical School, Girl and Boy Scouts of America, 4-H Club, and Bible study. I have tutored younger school age children in the past, and participating in the Little Willie Center tutoring and mentoring service would be a great opportunity to increase my teaching skill level. I am passionate about educating the younger generation and the

This program identifies both physical activity and the creative and performing art endeavors. In addition to that, the students have the opportunity to parade their accomplishments through expressions and presentations (Reichert-Montiel, 2015). To show support, the school board consistently attend the Chance to Dance performances which sends a powerful message of support to all participants. Additionally, the school board gives a yearly allocation to safeguard facilitation between the district and Murphy’s Foundation (Reichert-Montiel,
Every summer since the age of fifteen, I have been a volunteer assistant director and mentor to at risk children at Project F.A.M.E (“Fostering the Arts to Motivate Excellence”). F.A.M.E. is a creative learning summer camp aimed at teaching low-income African American children arts, history and equipping them with tools needed to excel in life.
The governing body of a nonprofit organization is crucial to its success as it provides the necessary leadership, planning, accountability and oversight to propel the organization forward. The success of a nonprofit board often hinges on effective planning, policy, meetings and committee work. Board members of Northeast Texas CASA are described as invested in the program and the children they serve.
There are many ways one can help an organization achieve its mission. For the purpose of this paper, the student will play the role of the Center Director. Through external excellence, the Center Director can positively impact those serviced by the Creative Learning Center. External partnership with other community business can create added value for the organization. External partnerships include State child care welfare, private elementary school, charter schools, health care providers and local markets for coupon offers. Aside from external partnership, developing a strong internal excellence is also important. The Creative Director can enhance the
Many people have dreams and aspirations for the future. Some want to be rich, have their dream home, be famous or travel the world. While these are all great goals and aspirations, they are not a wish of mine. My dream is to open a non-profit organization that assists in finding employment for disabled adults, specifically autistic adults. Before beginning this establishment I must have a solid vision, the mission of the non-profit, the goals I am aspiring to reach and a firm set of policies in place all while ensuring the correct management style is utilized.
Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that promotes the good through one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It has created lasting relationships between students with disabilities and their peers, therefore, helping to improve the quality of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. It has also provided employment opportunities for those with IDD, allowing them to be productive members of the labour force. Lastly, Best Buddies has given those with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to realize their potential by encouraging them to become leaders.
After being asked to choose an administrator to interview, I did not have to think twice about whom I would be interested in interviewing to speak on the terms of collaboration. After having Mrs. Kimberly Bernard as a teacher, I was extremely curious to learn about her experiences and opinions on this subject. Mrs. Bernard is an English teacher at Elwood Junior/ Senior High School, which is located in Elwood, Indiana. Additionally, she is the head of the English department, which consists of advocating for the department. Mrs. Bernard teaches an eighth grade English class as well as a sophomore Honors class. She has also taught in Connecticut for two and a half years, Illinois for three years, Ohio for one year, Indiana for five years,
This is why the city of La Porte seriously needs to provide for these students who want to achieve in the world of the arts but cannot afford it. If I could change this town, I would create visual, musical, and performing arts classes for young artists after school. This space would offer a wide range of both visual and
I am seeking to join Teach for America for a few reasons. The first reason is because I want to make a change. So many of today’s youth are lacking the required educational foundation needed to succeed. The problem is not that they aren’t smart enough or that they are not capable of high achievement. The problem is that they are not given the same opportunities that are found in a different zip code or a neighboring town. The lack of equality in the education system is disparaging and is a social injustice effecting children that do not have any control over the area where they live. It is my belief that many students in low-income communities can benefit from having someone who believes in them and can help them reach their highest potential.
In today’s world there are hundreds of thousands of non-profit organizations (NPOs) established at the local, regional, national and international level, and their influence is increasing. Non-profit organizations even considered the third sector of the economy (the first two is the public and private, or commercial). It is believed that they have a special role in development of civil society. In those countries, which have largely shaped the system of legislative regulation of the sector (USA, UK, Australia, etc); the state spends huge sums on research programs in the field of standardization of the NPO.
Countless success stories can be found of people who have benefited from art programs in the way of character building. Art programs affect the characteristics of people differently, but always in a positive way. Singing in a choir can improve a student’s social skills and allow him to experience participating in a team. Painting a fruit bowl can enhance one’s perspective and help develop his style. Acting in a play can help to build and secure a person’s self esteem and help him grow as an individual. Art can also benefit communities and societies. Charity concerts and public performances by school music and drama groups help add a sense of happiness and togetherness to the surrounding community as people gather for a common purpose. Public murals and art gatherings
