Is proposition 53 a solution in search of a problem or is it a long term solution. Just like every other proposition proposed, this proposition can either benefit the community or it can impact it negatively. November 8th is an important day because of the fact that voters will go out and cast their vote. On this day a new president will be elected. Voters must also vote yes or no on certain propositions. Proposition 53 is strictly for California, any voter living in California has the opportunity to vote in support or in opposition for the proposition. Before going out and voting voters should be fully informed about everything in the ballot. So what is proposition 53? It is voters approval requirement for revenue bonds above $2 billion.
The Missouri Compromise has impacted America today greatly for many reasons. One of the few reasons include, “It marked the beginning of the … conflict over the extension of slavery that led to the American Civil War.” (Encyclopædia Britannica, Missouri Compromise) Currently territories south of the Ohio River and the Mason Dixon Line were considered pro-slave states. A significant portion of Missouri is north of the Mason Dixon Line, but many citizens of Missouri were still slaveholders.
The topic that I will be investigating is the legalization of Marijuana by California Proposition 19. Proposition 19 was on the 2010 ballot in November. It would have legalized for any individual over the age of 21 to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, just like alcohol. Marijuana has been viewed as bad since the 1920’s, even planting,
Detainees were kept in jails that needed power, supplies, and more. The Eighth Amendment protects individuals from "cruel or abnormal discipline." By keeping detainees in these conditions does not go against the Eight Amendment because the storm was not meant to be a punishment, it was something uncontrollable. Under the assumption that the officers did not get through their crisis preparation or departure arrangements, which brought about the detainees being kept in said conditions.
In my opinion, the United States Constitution when it was first written was not just, however, after ratifying the Constitution throughout the years it has become a just document. When the Constitution was first written, it did have good points but, it still allowed slavery and did not allow women the right to vote. The 13th amendment which abolished slavery in the United States was not ratified until 74 years after the Bill of Rights was ratified. African American slaves were also not considered a whole person because of the ⅗ Compromise. Women were not granted the right to vote until the 19th amendment which gave all United States citizens the right to vote was ratified in 1920 which was 129 years after the original Constitution was ratified.
At the start of a new year, everyone makes a resolution to change something or make it better. This year, I have three resolutions I want to focus on; working harder in school, staying active, and to think more positively.
Aside from school funding and protecting Children’s Healthcare, Proposition 55 will also maintain low taxes for families whose income is low. Proposition 55 will only keep higher taxes on the rich because as many say, they are able to afford it. According to Protecting California, these high taxes will only “apply to singles that make $250,00 and couples who make $500,000 or more a year.” (Protecting California) This shows that it really does only tax higher to those who really are able to afford it. Voter’s Guide is also stating how it will, “Only affect the wealthiest Californians who can most afford it, ensuring they continue to pay their share of taxes.” (Voters Guide) Ergo meaning that, the high taxes being taxed will indeed be paid because
Proposition 417 is unconstitutional because it places an undue burden on a woman’s right to obtain a legal abortion, therefore violating the 14th amendment.
Slavery is the act of owning people and giving them nothing but restricted freedom and exhausting laborious jobs. Most of the slave states were in the South, including Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, and Delaware. The free states were in the North including California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin. It was determined if a state would own slaves or not through the Missouri Compromise, most of the slave states justified their need for slaves because or the amount of work that had to be done in
California Proposition 62, the Repeal of the Death Penalty Initiative, is on the November 8, 2016, ballot in California as an initiated state statute. California is one of the 30 states in which death penalty is legal. This referendum plays a vital role in deciding the criminal system justice system. There exist many arguments from the people in support and in opposition of this proposition. People in favor of the Proposition 62 are mostly former death penalty advocates, while the people in opposition are the ones who have been the indirect victims of some worst criminals. The question raised by this proposition is similar to the issue raised in Just Mercy, which talks about problems in the American justice system.
What is the Safe Amendment ?, the Safe Amendment is to protect us from the terrorists of the “Blood For Blood Movement”(who believe that America is the source of evil, so must pay). They have taking credit for the massacre of 12, in the Washington D C Airport. This Amendment states that Congress shall have the power to establish special military courts solely for the prosecution of persons accused of terrorist acts. Such courts shall not be required to observe the provisions contained in Amendments IV, V, VI and VIII of this Constitution,Congress shall have the power to ban the manufacture, sale, and possession of all handguns and concealable weapons within the territorial boundaries of the United States, and finally that Congress shall have
California's Proposition 13 had a big impact on American government and public policy because it put to vote the reduction of property taxes. This Proposition had a great impact as it swept the county and made headlines in newspapers around the world. People used this initiative process to gain a greater control over their lives. The California taxpayers stood up and said no more to excessive taxes because they were tired of out of control property taxes and losing their homes because they could not pay property taxes while the government did nothing to help them. This in turn hurt the schools, cities, counties and special districts. From this proposition, we have a few others like
If I were capable to travel back in time to the constitutional convention and argue for a change, I would argue that the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendment should be higher up in the constitution near the first amendment. This is because of all of the discrimination that we are still having today in society. If we have these amendments first it would mean that everyone is equal and have the same freedoms. This is a problem in today’s society; even though everyone is equal, African Americans still believe that they are truly not equal.
Decades after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the United States continued to deal with European encroachment on their territory. A group of young congressmen, known as the War Hawks, were land hungry and favored war with Britain in hopes of true liberation and independence. Add filler here using Cochran ref. In the year 1799, a man named William Henry Harrison was elected Delegate to represent the land North-West of Ohio in Congress (Brief Sketch, 10). During Harrison’s term as Delegate, the state of Indiana formed from the territory he represented and was appointed Governor of Indiana. In order to continue westward expansion and attract settlers, President Jefferson encouraged Harrison to extract land treaties from numerous
Macbeth’s fate and choices weren’t reliable to predict a good enough ending for himself. Macbeth’s ambition to pursue the witches’ prophecies was too great. As time went on, his ambition and eagerness grew. As the negative aspects of his character begin to overcome any possibility of his good ones, he begin to lose sight in enjoying the throne. After losing sight in the reasoning of his actions, he became reckless.
The justice system is not fair because criminals get away free or only get a short sentence and don’t pay for their crimes like they should. Justice isn’t fair because some cases later prove people who spent years in jail are actually innocent. There are also a lot of loopholes for criminals or lawyers can use to get out of or get their client out of jail time and they use these loopholes. The system is unfair because the lawyers reputation are based off how many cases they win winning is more important than justice.
