In addition, the past several years have seen recent changes to administration at both schools. Three years ago the long-time middle school principal retired and a new principal was hired from outside the district. This principal was surprised at the lack of collaboration between the schools and would like there to be more. Last spring, the long-time principal of the high school passed away after a battle with cancer that brought the entire community together. The high school’s assistant principal, who was acting principal during the principal’s medical leave, was hired as the principal. He, too, seems ready to build better collaboration between the schools. Now seems to be a great time to begin the collaboration that is needed between the two schools.

If I were principal, my plan to improve school community relations would begin with a whole school concerted to effort to learn about the new cultural groups in the community and provide opportunities for school community members to come together to build relationships with the new families. I believe the name of the new school being built should be named after a local important historical figure in our community. I believe that's the best way to name it because alumni of our previous school would appreciate us keeping the school name local, which could possibly inspire them to donate us money to help build up our school. I believe the mascot should stay relatively similar to the one of our old school because, we all still live in the same community so why not have a similar mascot.

Throughout ancient times, many names have identified as racial slurs. Most recently, controversy has surrounded multiple sports teams such as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Washington Redskins; however, some may believe the Braves and Indians name is more to honor them, instead of discriminate against them. The conflict of the Washington Redskins seems highest compared to other teams. This kind of denigration has both visible and unseen consequences for Native Americans (Keim 2). Throughout this paper opinions on the argument has been voiced, polls which have taken placed, and protests have developed for both sides of the argument will be taken discussed to find a resolution for the potential name change of the Washington Redskins.

Schools are a place for all kids and young adults go to learn something before going out into the big world, schools are responsible for a lot of things; what a child learns, and many other things. So with the new school being built; the name should be Northeast, the mascot should be a python, and the school colors should be yellow and white.

I believe the new school should district should be named based on where the school district is located. The schools colors and mascot should assosiate with the schools name and location. The school name is Richwoods High School. Their mascot is a dragon! Richwoods colors are navy blue and yellow.

Addressing the people who disagree with me, whom feel the name of the school and the mascot should represent this city in the past, I understand and respect why you made that decision in your own opinion, so please try to understand and respect my opinion. I feel as if our city should be shown off for our amazing accomplishments, just like any other city, but we need something that anyone can comprehend. Visitors from out of town would not recognize anything from our past and disregard it as if it wasn’t important. But, if we were to have something from present day, something that makes our city famous, so everyone will recognize our intentions, and understand what our wonderful city has done in the past. Hopefully with my decision we’ll be able to share amazing stories of our great city, and be proud of where we came from.

There has been news around the county that a new school will be built and you would like any suggestions on the name, colors, and mascot should be. Me being a citizen of this county I would like to take the opportunity in being part of the making of the school that is to be built. I have thought long and hard about this and even asked a few other people what they think and they seem to agree that what I have picked out will fit our community.

As an educational leader, I must have a vision and mission statement for the school that is known by the staff, students, and parents. The vision will address the needs of the students academically, emotionally, and socially. According to DuFour (1998), “ Those who seek to transform their school into a professional learning community as characterized by an environment fostering mutual cooperation, emotional support, personal growth, and a synergy of efforts.” The leader must implement a plan that will cultivate the success of all students. The mission will speak to the direction of the school community stating what the desire goals are. The building leader will lead by example. High expectations will be communicated and encourage by staff and students. The educational leader of a school must develop a culture of team work to create a climate that is student friendly. The vision mission and goals of the leader should be transparent. The establishment of common goals is the first step. Without common goals, sustainable progress will be impossible and thus everyone will have lower expectations. The students, parents, and staff should be commented to the goals of every child reaching their full academic potential. The school environment should speak to goal setting and high expectations for all students and staff.

I’m very excited that you have decided to let us students help pick the name, mascot, and color of the new school because I believe it is great to have the students involved in the county. If I were to choose, I would name the school Nemo, make the mascot a clownfish, and have the colors be blue and orange.
