The article “Gun Control Laws: Should the United States adopt stronger gun control laws?” focuses on the debate on passing stricter gun control laws. For example, supporters believe that gun control laws will decrease mass shootings and gun violence. Additionally, adopting these laws does not violate the Second Amendment, and as a result it does not limit the government from the use of fire arms when it is necessary. However, opponents argue that the gun control laws will not stop gun violence. The problem is the people holding the gun and not the gun itself. Furthermore, opponents gathered that stronger gun control laws do violate the Second Amendment. The author illustrates the debate on whether the United States should or should not adopt stronger gun control laws.
How would you feel if you left your loved one in the movie theater to get some snacks and a second later you hear gun shots? On July 12th 2012, James Holmes entered a sold-out movie theater that was screening the film The Dark Night Rises. Holmes ended up killing twelve people and injuring fifty-eight. He could purchase various types of guns legally. The police achieved arresting the gunman after losing some citizens of the United States. This shooting was just one of the many in the year of 2012. The United States should adopt stronger gun control laws because it will keep guns from getting into the wrong hands and it will increase the protection of United States citizens.
The United States should make stronger gun control laws because it is possible that guns can get into the wrong hands. Imagine an unstable person carrying around a gun, anyone is at risk. “In 2007, Seung-Hui Cho, a student at Virginia Tech, used two guns to kill 32 people and wound several others in two attacks two hours apart on the college campus in Blacksburg. Cho, who had a documented history of mental and emotional health problems, had nonetheless been able to purchase guns because the state of Virginia had failed to share his history with NICS.” (“Gun Control”, 2016, pg. 5) Thirty-two families will suffer from losing their loved ones because there was not an extensive background check. There are mentally ill people who are not seeking treatment that legally buy guns
Gun control laws should be strictly enforced because individuals can take advantage of the relaxed enforcement and harm others.
Congress, do not pass this bill! Smart guns are not any more effective at curbing violence than non-smart guns. Even if they would prevent some future catastrophes, they will also cause future catastrophes! These guns will cause more problems than they solve, and the negative results will be detrimental to the American people. Anything managed by software will have vulnerabilities; systems are hacked all the time. If this happened with the gun regulation system, it would make things infinitely easier for criminals, while possibly preventing the average American from defending himself. Even without anyone hacking the software, many reasonable circumstances would also prevent someone from defending himself. For example, what if multiple
A DAY HAPPENS like any other day. Then some guy asks you for all of your card information. You refuse. He then pulls a Vector (a sub-machine gun, still fully automatic) and points it right at you. Luckily, the police pull up and take him away for illegal assault. Automatic guns and rifles are banned for civilian use, mostly because of how dangerous they are. This is the gun control law.
Gun deaths are the twelfth most cause of all deaths in America or 1.3% of all deaths "Gun Control - ProCon.org". Unintentional deaths caused by guns is 0.5% of deaths in America and it's decreasing every year. Homicide rates with guns have been decreasing since 2006 with 41% and now in 2015 with 35% "Gun Control - ProCon.org". Why ban guns? Guns should not be banned. The research shows that gun deaths like homicide, unintentional deaths, and undermined deaths are going down. If you do the research you can find that there was a ban it was from 1999-2004 and didn't go as planned. After you read this you will see why you should say keep them.
in addition,if the gun control laws were strict that would not be the reason for death.
Gun control and gun safety is a highly debated topic throughout the government. Between the candidates for president, Senate, and Congress there are tons of different opinions and laws that different people want passed. The government has made some decisions that some people are upset about concerning guns. The government will continue to make decisions in order to control gun safety.
To own a gun is to own a powerful weapon in your hand. No one can tell you what to do with that can only you can decide. In a world like today many things come into question with gun ownership. People are trying to change gun laws due to all the school shootings that have happened so far. Which, many people do understand the need to change the gun laws but they are also pushing against the people who use guns for hunting deer, duck, and many other forms of animals to feed their families. While, these people are using guns for good others use them for terrible things such as school shootings, robbery, and murder are the main forms of terrible things that happen with guns. Since those people are doing bad things the minority of people saying
How do you feel about Gun Control? A 26 yr old armed man walks in a college class full of students in Oregon with a semi automatic gun and begins to ask people what their religion is. When the people respond, he aims the gun toward them and pulls the trigger. Nine people are dead and numerous people were injured. When will the law bear down on gun control? The law can reduce gun violence by passing stricter laws on getting them and emphasizing the dangers of them.
Gun control has been a people issue for decades, and the fight for or against it is getting stronger with each coming year. From the Columbine shooting to the most recent Santa Fe High School shooting, it seems as though guns are the perpetrator. The greatest defense against gun control is the Second Amendment, which states, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” John Paul Stevens, a 98 year old former associate justice suggested that America should repeal the Second Amendment, sparking controversy amongst liberals and conservatives. But should the Second Amendment actually be repealed? Should America ban guns completely to limit gun crime? Simply
The topic of gun control has created controversy among the public and political parties, each with different views among them. I for one am for the 2nd Amendment, to a point. I feel like all law abiding citizens have the right to own a gun to protect their families. After all the mass shootings something more needs to be done to help control these violent acts.
Gun control has been a controversial subject in the country for many years. Should we make guns illegal or not? Should people be allowed to have guns on school campus? The states are still in control of their own gun laws and recently Georgia has decided to pass the House Bill 280, also known as the “campus carry” law, which went in effect July 1st. This law allows students, who are over 21, to carry their concealed weapon to any public college campus. Whether this was the right choice is still up to debate.
Should gun control laws be implemented or not? The United States has about 90 guns per 100 people, or about 300,000,000 guns, which is the highest number in the world. Gun control laws should be enacted but there are more cons then pros about the gun control act of the government.
I feel gun control should be enforced more than it already is. There has already been 142 school shootings since the “Sandy Hook” elementary shooting. “There has been over 137 fatal school shootings since 1980 alone before Sandy Hook Elementary, killing over 297 people” (Bloomberg, adapted by Newsela, “Issue Overview: Guns in America”). Guns have been connected to many types of terrorism, and killing the future of America, children who can grow up to become many things. It is in a way crippling us. Over 2,961 deaths have occurred by terrorists attacks since 9/11, in American soil. Guns can be helpful and protect us but they can also harm families, and by making these weapons so easy to obtain they also make people have the ability to take their own lives.
Police cannot watch out for everyone at the same time! That is the main purpose for the second amendment, which gives us the right to own a legal weapon and defend our families from danger(should more gun control laws be enacted pg.4). Having a strong Gun Control laws will only make it harder to protect our families from criminals, because criminals will not follow a simple rule because they are already criminals ready to break the law no matter what. A ban on an assault weapons or any type of weapon will not stop people from going into schools or colleges and committing mass murders(Graham pg.3).
You may think of all the mass shooting in United States of America the shooters got their guns illegally, of the 139 guns possessed by the killers, more than three quarters were obtained legally (Mother Jones 2012). Times have changed and so should our gun laws. The federal government should ban all personal guns in order to reduce gun-related deaths, as we have a strong military system to defend us, and other countries have an example of why banned personal guns are effective.
