Great post this second week of class! I can totally agree with you when you say that shoplifting is a global problem not only in the holidays but also in our everyday life. There have been multiple cases that I’ve seen on the news telling the public to be careful when they order anything online. I remember there was a timeframe where a lot of packages were being stolen from UPS and USPS right after they were dropped off at a person’s home. A victim that had a camera in their porch filmed when UPS dropped off a package and minutes later a stranger picked it up and left with it. “Adell estimates that 20 percent of package deliveries fail on the first attempt in urban areas — even higher in some neighborhoods. He says roughly two million packages
Black Friday shopping is a controversial issue in the United States; while many believe the day after Thanksgiving is a part of holiday festivities, others view it as destructive. Throughout “Black Friday: Consumerism Minus Civilization,” Andrew Leonard argues that the chaos of Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in which crowds of Americans shop all night for extremely low prices, lessens the sophistication of Americans and the true meaning of the holidays. People become so consumed in the idea of endless sale prices that they forget to embrace what they already have, such as family, food, and shelter. He believes that Black Friday shopping has become out of control and describes the negative effects of excessive consumerism. he explains how most consumers act completely insane while Black Friday shopping and how society encourages this behavior by creating commercials and advertisements. Furthermore, Leonard states that it hurts the economy and damages one’s mental health. While Leonard is probably wrong when he claims that Black Friday shopping is completely troublesome to America’s well-being, he is right that consumerism overpowers the true significance of Thanksgiving.
Apprehension of this kind will strengthen the store’s case against a shoplifter. In most cases, store security or management personnel will handle these types of apprehensions. It is important for store employees to inform such personnel immediately in order apprehensions can be made before the shoplifters escape. At times if the store security or management personnel are not available, a good approach to use when stopping a suspect is to speak to the person and identify yourself, then say, ‘’I believe you have some merchandise that you have forgotten to pay for.’’ Would you mind coming back to the store to straighten this matter
Examines this day and views it as a counter productive and harmful part of the holiday season. The author goes in depth about how people need to realize Black Friday is destroying humanity. The author describes it as, “where consumerism loses its last mooring to civilization, where even seemingly legitimate protest devolves into farce.” With this in mind I believe the author is correct Americans have become insane and ruthless during this time of year. The people are more crazed and out of their minds, the stores force these people to leave their families early ruining Thanksgiving for most, and the only individuals really benefiting from this are the one percent that own or have control over the retail
Shoplifting is a major problem in today’s world. I myself was recently caught shoplifting and now I have to face the consequences for the bad mistake I made. The temptation of not paying for something is very big factor in why people steal. The shoplifter thinks he is getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's really doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting affects yourself, your local neighborhood and the world population.
If I were to get caught shoplifting by the police, honestly, I would probably be more scared of facing my family and friends than the criminal punishment. However, I would still fear the criminal punishment. Though, facing my family and friends in this circumstance would cause more pain and regret. In my mind, I feel like I let the people I love down by doing something that I could have avoided. I feel anyone with a supportive family will feel the same because you would think about their feeling in all your actions. My family and friends would probably start second guessing our relationship for the fact that I never went to them about my troubles. Without a doubt, there would be problems given that I shoplifted. The textbook states “other
If you do shoplift you feel immense humiliation and distrust from friends and family, and your own conscious is hurt if it isn't then there is something wrong with your feelings not to feel bad about stealing from stores. Every time you steal from stores they are set back that much money and might even have to fire someone that could be one of your friends.People in the community lose respect for you.
Along with a community being hurt, his or her actions negatively affect those personally close to the shoplifter as well. Whether it is a mother, father, sibling, or child, there is always someone else being hurt when stealing takes place. It is very easy for the shoplifter to only worry about him or her and not think about the
According to the United States Supreme Court, a prosecutor is an individual whose exclusive duty consists of enforcing the law in a fair manner in order to solve criminal cases (http://nvpac.nv.gov/Resources/Topics/Ethical_Prosecutor/). Therefore, criminal convictions should be expected when there are enough plausible facts to incriminate defendants. Additionally, when a judgment determines that a criminal is guilty, the verdict automatically becomes part of the record of that individual even after the incarceration is fulfilled. However, such criminal records likely become a burden and even prevent sentenced criminals the opportunity to establish again in the society. Indeed, the inability to benefit of that second chance is a direct consequence
In my humble opinion, I will say that anybody who is involve in any type of criminal activity whether it's White-collar crime, Black-collar crime, even Shoplifting-collar crime all is the same must face the ppunishment. Furthermore, all of their assets should be confiscated including the one that was transferred into any family members banks. On the same note, the law should equally hold the family members accountable for participating in fraud actives. It is very disheartening to see how evil and selfish some people can be; which makes me to wonder how such people are able to sleep at night. For example, Bernard Madoff who defrauded thousands of investors their 65 billion dollars, but was later caught and sentenced
After reevaluating my three policies that I would have provided to the mayor of an urban city, I realized that they are all still great policies and should still be used in some way to help with the crime in that city. I truly believe that there are many things to prevent crime and although many of them will not stop it by reducing the rate is what is most important when it comes to cities who has a high rate of crime involved. Preventing some crime is better than increasing it, after researching my three proposed policies I found plenty of great information. Crime will never come to a complete end but there are many things and ways that people can do to certainly prevent the crime that could potentially be surrounding them.
Shoplifting is an unacceptable habit. This practice has negative effects on businesses and consumers alike. There is no excuse for stealing. Stores that are robbed will get tighter security to diminish theft, however, cameras, sensors, and special training for employees coast money which means higher prices. Corporations that have a shoplifting problem will start to raise prices to cover the cost which can drive away customers. Shoplifters not only effect themselves but also effect society. When a business is robbed more than once they will probubly raise prices to cover the loss. No matter what someone steals that act effects everyone. wheather it's a TV or a T-Shirt the company will not swallow the cost, and customers will pay for it.
I think that if I was caught shoplifting by the police, I would be more afraid of receiving criminal punishment rather than having to face friends or families. The worst thing about receiving criminal punishment is that a person will receive a record of it. The effects of criminal punishment outweigh the thoughts of family of friends. Furthermore, facing family and friends varies on the type of people a person would associate themselves with.
Did you know stealing is the worse crime? Did you know 90% of people who tries to rob a bank go to jail for life. So think about it’s not worth it going to jail for life. In the state of Georgia if you steal over something that is 600$ it’s a Fellini that mean you can got jail for a long time the most is 12 years. IN some states if you steal something of 7$ you can go to jail for five years! That’s a long time for only 7 bucks. Why should you steal some people have more money than me! AND they still want to steal, I think that’s called greed. PEOPLE say they steal
in a purse, pocket or bag but can occur by a variety of methods. Most
