Some individuals enter in to the criminal justice system and learn their lesson to never commit a crime again, but others unfortunately become repeat offenders. Environment plays a huge role but it is only one of many factors. The explanations for crime are not simple; we live in an ever changing society, and the causes of crime are as complex as the society itself. There are several different theories about why people commit crimes. There are many theories in criminology, some theories conclude that crime is a rational choice, and criminals consider the pros and cons of committing a crime before doing it and will commit the crime if decided they would not get caught. The theory of social learning stands on the basis that learning is a natural process and individuals cannot avoid the impact of behaviors both positive and negative, which are observed. Juveniles learn to engage in crime in the same way they learn to engage in conforming behavior: through association with or exposure to others. Primary or intimate groups like the family and peer group have an especially large impact on what we learn. Behaviors and attitudes develop in response to reinforcement and encouragement from the people around us. While social learning theorists acknowledge that childhood experience is important, they also believe that the choices people made are formed more by the behaviors and attitudes of others. Domestic violence is a pattern of aggressive and coercive behaviors. This includes physical, sexual and psychological assaults, as well as financial bullying, that a person will impose on their partner or children. Children from violent homes continue to suffer the consequences as adults, where they are more likely to abuse drugs or alcohol or commit violence against their own partners.
