First of all, by starting school later, the brain is able function better. When we have to wake up early and the first class of the day is challenging,
School starting later does have it’s positive affects it also has its negative effects as well. School starting later would allow students to sleep later, but according to the High Schools with late start times help teens but schedules and after-school can conflict, “potential complications, such as additional costs if buses were added, child-care issues where late-day schedules might prevent teens from picking up younger siblings after school, and implications for teams if they end up playing in the dark.” According to Fox News Megan Kuhfeld says, a student in California,” I enjoyed waking up later than everyone else in the area next to me where there were early start times, but as a member of the tennis team, she had to miss sixth and seventh period classes to compete at other schools.” Although school starting later would give teens more time to sleep, it would cause conflicts between their schedules after
Research has shown that teenagers experience a change in their internal sleep clocks so that waking up early and going to sleep early are difficult. I agree with the decision to change school times and what it has to offer. This would not only help the teenagers with many things but also accommodate the parents schedules too. I believe that if the school system were to alter the times so that High Schoolers were to wake up later then it would fix various conflicts; teen depression, lack of awareness, and it allows parents to work later.
About 40 percent of American high schools start classes before 8 a.m., and more than 20 percent of middle schools start at 7:45 a.m. or earlier. Studies show that starting school later-even by half an hour- has major health and academic benefits. Some people say that pushing for late school starts is unacceptable while the majority of other state later school start times are exceptional. School starts should be pushed back because kids are more energized, and receive health benefits.
If we start school at 9:00am we would get out at 5:00pm. You could go home, do your homework, and by having a later start time you can do your homework a little bit longer. For example, if you have to be at school at 9:00am you will actually have time to get ready and have breakfeast, and when you get home you can stay up a little bit later doing homework because you dont have to get up as early. This is an accurate example because with later start times you wont be as tired and fall asleep as easily. If we wake up later the we will also be getting the appropriate amount of
High school students should have a later starting time in school due to students not getting the amount of sleep they need to function. Students that stay up late at night are way too tired to learn when they get to school early in the morning. Most students who do stay up late are unable to sleep due to melatonin not yet being produced. This shows that starting school at a later time would have many positive benefits. These benefits include higher test scores, increased attendance, more participation from students, and higher performance from athletes.
Still, advocates [those in favor] say studies show the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. In 1996, high school
In the articles of “High schools starting later to help sleepy teens”, claim is that school
It has been talked about for decades, that students are not getting enough sleep. Due to this statement, some people believe changing the school start time would address the issue. I believe that altering the school start time will actually do more harm than good. Transportation, sports, and lives of parents would be negatively affected by a later school start time.
Schools should start later because students need more time to rest in the morning. Some reasons also show that it will mess up schedules. With more rest comes more energy and with more energy comes better grades. Studies have shown that schools that start later often have better performing students.
Do you hate waking up so early in the morning to get ready for school? Do you feel so drained because you’re tired? Some school districts have started school later to give students more time to sleep and because students get more sleep it has several positive effects. School districts would be for schools starting later because studies have shown students with more sleep have improved school performances, more sleep which reduces health problems, and less morning automobile accidents.
Everyone has always hated getting up super early in the morning to go to school. As children get older they move to different schools, from elementary to middle to high school, and the start times get earlier and earlier. In elementary school it was never a problem getting up but as we get older, it becomes more difficult to get up. Schools start so early in the morning that it is hard to focus and students tend to either miss more of their earlier classes or earn lower grades compared to their later classes. In addition, early start times also lead to various medical problems. Schools everywhere should start later because it would beneift the stduents.
Starting school at later times makes students more likely to pay attention in class. The California Academy of Sciences says, ¨Studies have shown that middle and high school students with adequate amounts of sleep, 8-10 hours, have better test scores. ¨ Since students do not get enough sleep, it would be very beneficial to start school at later times, since they would fall asleep with the correct amount of sleep. To add on to this reason, Diana Zuckerman Ph.D. says, ¨In order to compensate for the later start time, the school cut 5-10 minutes of every class and activity. The change meant students had slightly less time in the classroom, but the tradeoff was improved attention during the school day.¨ Although starting classes at later times
The first reason schools should start later is because teens would do better. Evidence for this is that the AASM says that schools should start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. This could help high- and middle schoolers to get better grades in their morning classes if we applied this rule. The second piece of evidence is that this argument isn’t new, other people have been at this for a long time, meaning the dispute isn’t old and the problem has occured to the teens of the past. It’s very difficult for teens to get tired before 11:00 p.m. If we let them got to bed at that time, that means that they would have to sleep in till 7:30 a.m. Schools are starting at 8:00 to 7:50. That doesn’t give them a long time to wake up and get ready for school. (All evidence in this
If we were to start school later, academic GPA’s (grade point averages) would definately increase. Isn’t this what we want in our school? It is proven that the more sleep you get, the more awake and alert you actually are. I interviewed Michael Claffey, a sophomore at Newington High School, he stated “ Goooooud.” Also Jorge Premto a sophomore at Newington High School stated “Yes Michael, yes I do believe school should start at nine o’clock am. This will thus help further my education because I will be well rested.” In all, we need school to start later because it will help us with our education.
