Is the death penalty justified? And how long has it been around? In 1608 the first ever Capital punishment was recorded in the Jamestown colony of Virginia. One of the main countries that influenced the death penalty towards the US was Britain. They brought it over when they came to the “New World” which is now known as the US. If you think about it, is it really justified? I personally believe that the death penalty is only justified, depending on the crime they committed. The reason being is that you can’t put someone on death penalty for something like robbery. But justice still needs to be served, if you were to put a man that committed that then it would be basically murder. Even the constitution allows for the death penalty, but only in appropriate cases. The fifth, eighth, and fourteenth amendments are what allow us to have the death penalty. Way back in the day most states would use public hanging for their death penalty. So that everyone who would like to attend and see what that person has committed, then they would execute him. With the death penalty to be legal throughout the nation, this would deter people from committing crimes such as murder. The reason being is because most people fear death, so if they know that death is a possible consequence for their actions, then they are now less likely to murder someone.
