Imagine going on a hike and there was no sign telling you there is a cliff ahead, or some kind of dangerous animal. You probably would run right off that cliff, or get stuck in the hands of a dangerous bear, what could have prevented that? A big sign saying DANGER AHEAD! Let's talk about something that you may not know could lead to serious problems like, obesity and diabetes. It is everywhere you go pretty much, there when you enter and there when you leave. It is a can of soda. I strongly agree that warning labels should be put on soda. My three reasons include, soda contains an enormous amount of sugar, the sugar in soda is addictive, and the fact that big corporations don't want the labels to be put on their soda.
I strongly agree that

There are multiple strange ingredients that are in soda. " These include high levels of sugar, (or even worse high fructose corn syrup), corrosive phosphoric acid, naturally caramel coloring, and one of the most well known drug that has a powerful effect on your brain chemistry - it is called caffeine." ( Action on sugar. n.d.) The caffeine in soda is why it is so addictive. You should see why you shouldn't drink soda because it has the worlds most popular psychoactive drug. " When you drink soda, the caffeine is absorbed through your small intestine, and into your blood stream. Caffeine is both a water and a fat soluble. It is easy to cross the blood-brain barrier to affect your brain cells directly. This increases alertness. After that it stimulates the brain to produce the old flight or fight chemical, adrenaline. Your body was not meant to be in that state constantly and when the effects of the caffeine wear off, you'll most of the time be exhausted . After your body will just keeping wanting more and more of the adrenaline and therefore making the soda addictive to you." ( Health ambition. n.d.) Awful right. It just attacks your brain cells, killing them, but keeps your body wanting more. Knowing that makes labels seem good right? As well as that the recent brain scans show, " That eating/drinking sugar affects the same parts of the brain as addictive drugs. Some reasearch even shows that sugar is even more addictive than most drugs," LLyod ( 2014 ). See I was lying this stuff can be really addictive. If it is as addictive as drugs, your body could be hurting in a way you didn't even know it could. See why the soda labels may help people realize what is really going on in their
In the Article “Your Favorite Drinks Can Wreck Your Body” by Russ Lloyd that said “Yes” to having labels on Sugary Drinks. People think that having sugar in your drinks is good because they know what they are drinking and what is going to happen to them if they drink too much of it. Then there are others that think that it is not ok having labels on the drinks. They say that they will ruin the drinks and they will ruin the company's money that they are getting from making the sugary drinks. I agree with putting “Sugar Labels” on the sodas that we drink. The reasons why people say that it is good to have the labels on it is if they drink too much of the drink them they can get sick, how much sugar is in the drink and if they do get rid of the sugar them the taste. In conclusion, sugary drinks should have a warning Label because people need to know what is about to go into there body and what might happen to them if they consume too much of the drinks.
I think sugary drinks should have warning labels because in the text it says it can lead to obesity and it can put you at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and many other health problems. Most people don’t want any of those diseases or heart problems so there should be warnings on the labels. The text also says that “you deserve to know when you’re about to put something in your body that can make you sick--or worse.” Which is true because i would want to know if i was drinking something that could put me at risk of having heart disease or diabetes.
Who doesn’t love a nice glass of soda with dinner or just to cool down after a long day at work. Is soda bad for you? Well obviously it’s not good for your health. People have tried to abolish soda production with the soda ban which only includes regular soda not diet or other artificial drinks so what’s the point?
In the article “Putting Warning Labels on Sugary Drink Would Save Lives, ” by Russ Lloyd, it talks about how if we put caution labels on soda it will prevent many people from drink as much sugar as they do. In the text it shows how if we put caution labels on soda then it will prevent many terrible things. First off, people can get many health problems from it. The article states, “Eating too much of it can lead to obesity and put you at risk for heart disease, diabetes and so many other health problems” (Lloyd 18). This shows, how putting labels on soda can prevent many terrible things because, people can get many health issues with people’s body. Also, sugar is addictive to most everyone. The author explains, “In fact, brain scans reveal
The serving size for a soda is usually about 8-ounce, the allowed amount in New York is 16-ounce which is double the recommended amount, but nevertheless a 16-ounce soda is a healthier choice than the banned sizes. It is a controversial topic due to people not liking being told what they can and cannot do and them not liking having a limited number of options. Even though the soda ban has a few downsides, there are exponentially more benefits to having it. The soda ban is a great idea due to it making a healthier society, it helps us make healthier decision, and it is more of an inconvenience as in you can still get it but it takes more effort.
Soda is an acid sugar drink that sits on your teeth and piles us over time if you don't brush your teeth it can be a very bad consequence. For example, let's say that you have basketball morning practice at 6:00am and you need a drink so you drink out of the soda water fountains. You get done with practice at 8:00am and then you take another drink. By the time your get out of school its about 3:00pm and you decide you want to stay for the volleyball game. You get another drink before the game and then one more at 8:00pm when the game is done. You get home and you brush your teeth and go to bed at 9:00. This soda has been sitting on your teeth for about 15 hours! This will not be
1Why has there been so much fuss about New York City’s attempt to impose a soda ban,1 or more precisely, a ban on large-size “sugary drinks”? After all, people can still get as much soda as they want. This isn’t Prohibition. It’s just that getting it would take slightly more effort. So, why is this such a big deal?
Next, many consumers believe that drinking diet soda is healthier for you than drinking regular soda filled with sugar but studies are starting to show that artificial sweeteners may actually lead to diabetes. Mary Ann Yantis, PhD, RN, a nurse educator for Nursing Education Consultants and Kate Hunter, RD, LD (2010), a clinical dietitian at Adventist Medical Center reports (2010) that drinking more than one serving of diet soda per day can increase your risk of metabolic syndrome by more than 36%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors increase a person’s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times sweeter than sugar and this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Craving for more intense artificial sweetness will result in consuming more calories, increase the likelihood of developing insulin resistance, and more than likely affect the glucose metabolism (Yantis & Hunter, 2010).
The first thought that most likely comes to mind is, ¨how could a beverage hurt or have such an effect on you?¨ The answer lies in the text of Russ Lloyd’s article in Scope magazine, ¨Putting warning labels on sugary drinks would save lives¨. In the text, the author addresses side effects that soda has and could have on a person, mentioning serious problems
People think that the Soda ban would be a good thing but it isn't. Ban the Ban by Sidney Anne Stone and Soda’s a problem but… by Karin Klein are both opinion pieces, on why the soda ban is not worth it.t is not a good idea to limit the amount of soda a person can buy Americans have freedom of choice and they should make the decision of how much soda they drink. On page 287 of Ban the Ban, paragraph 2 it states, “ when you take away the option to order a soda over a certain size you have now removed mu options. I no longer have a choice this is not what this country is about” We shouldn't allow the government to make choices for us. If someone chooses the right to have a sugary drink, it's their choice and their right.
Have you ever drank a cola or any type of soda? Have you read or heard about the main ingredient including caffeine? Well caffeine is a bitter powder like substance that's very unhealthy and healthy in the same cause. Caffeine can lead to heart attacks but if taken in the right amount can help with long days at work.
There’s a consistent flood of warnings these days about the widespread habit of drinking sugar-laden soda, with most focusing on obesity-related health issues.
In conclusion, there is nothing healthy about diet soda and it is simply water with artificial sweeteners and other additives, especially phosphoric acid. So the less soda you drink, the better. In addition, people should not keep sodas in their home such as refrigerator because it is a big temptation. Instead, people can put healthier options include fresh juice, low fat milk, green tea, hot chocolate, and ginger tea. Moreover, people should drink more water instead of reaching for diet soda. Liquid helps human’s body get rid of toxins that can cause a big risk for diseases like cancer. As you know, water has zero calories so it is one of the healthiest ways for people to stay hydrated. According to my research, people should drink at least
Lastly, the soda ban will be as ineffective as a screen door on a submarine on an economic level, too, as it will have an adverse impact on small businesses. Bloomberg’s new law is unfair to small, minority-owned businesses; the law is radical and unfair to small shop owners as these people are just trying to make an honest living while the ban completely ignores the consumers’ individual rights to make their own dieting choices. The new law could put many business owners and workers out of business, workers who contribute to the economy and have families to care for. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Legal Center has been challenging this ban in hopes to end it as they argue that small business owners have
According to livestrong.com in 2015, “Drinking large amounts of soda may affect your brain health and alter your risk of certain diseases. Naturopathic physician Scott Olson says that several scientific studies suggest that a high sugar diet may increase your risk of schizophrenia, depression and anxiety,” (Adams, “Can Food Cause Chemical Imbalance in the Brain”). Sugar in soda can advance to permanent long-term damage to the brain. Additionally, the sugar in a person’s body can increase blood pressure and dilate pupils. While, this evidence had been scientifically proven precisely there are still people who don’t see the ethics in the soda ban. That’s why a state judge ruled against it. According to BusinessInsider.com in 2010, “A New York state judge struck down Mayor Bloomberg's controversial ban on large sodas on Monday, arguing that the restrictions on sugary sweetened drinks did not make sense, partly because the ban wasn't evenly enforced.” (Spector, “New Yorkers Will Be Significantly Fatter Because Of The Soda Ban Repeal”). Although the judge thinks the ban is inefficient he is inaccurate, the restrictions on the ban are based on scientific evidence. The ban will still make sense, even though it does not include diet sodas and fruit juices. Everybody knows fruit juice and diet sodas are better for people
