Research has shown that diets that are higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates are said to reduce blood fats. It also helps maintain lean tissue, while burning fat for fuel. Being on a high protein diet will cut out constant hunger and make your body feel fuller for most of your day. I chose to research the Protein Power diet. This diet regimen is based on the idea that controlling the level of insulin helps regulate blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and fat storage. It is also suggested that you take a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement along with at least 90 milligrams of potassium. Now let’s talk about my diet and protein requirements. Calculating my body weight in kilograms and knowing the RDA recommends 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of weight, my body requires 50.8 grams of protein per day. I don’t follow any special diet, except for the fact that I don’t eat meat. This diet would be horrible for me. I would be eating a lot of eggs and tofu. I already eat a lot of fresh vegetables like leafy greens, broccoli, zucchini, and green beans, so that is similar. The advantages of this diet are the fact that you will lose weight in time, it sounds like it’s good for you, and you still get to drink diet sodas. The cons, in my opinion, would be all the counting you would have to do. You have to count your carbohydrate intake, you have to count your protein intake, and you have to count your fiber intake. This seems like a lot of trouble to me. Also, you never know how your body will react to certain diets; you could become ill or fatigued. Also, studies have shown that high protein diets may lead to stress on the kidneys. In conclusion, I’d like to say, this diet is not for me. It can be modified for vegetarians, but this seems like a lot of work.
