Causes: When it comes to this disorder the exact cause is unknown, even though a combination of environmental and genetic factors especially in early childhood have been link to be the contributing cause of development of all disorders. Some patients have had problems with their nerve impulses that relay signals of pain, unpleasant sensation and pressure to the brain. One thing we do know, about this disorder is the pain is real, “they are not imagined” (Somatoform Disorders). Many psychiatrist believe that this disorder often run in families. B. Treatments: There is no cure for this disorder, but it can be managed. Being able to live a “normal as possible life” is one of the main focus of treatment (Somatoform Disorders). They will in all probability still have some pain and symptoms. There is one good thing; about this disorder it will not shorten your life. Your physician may prescribe medicine for your symptoms, but in most cases it is not needed. Making your regularly scheduled appointments will help maintain your health. 4. DSM – IV: Dissociative Disorder A. Causes: This disorder is usually develops as a way of dealing with trauma. This disorder usually develops in children who are subjected to “chronic” emotional, physical, and sexual abuse (Dissociative Disorders). When you are a child you are more likely to step outside of your self and observed trauma as if it is happening to a different person.
