Week 1 Discussion
Hello Class,
My grandmother suffered with thyroid and use to always ask me if I had thyroids. I remember a time when she told me to get a quarter and some iodine to put on my stomach above my navel. She told me if it changed colors that I had thyroids. Also, because I felt so drained most of the time and would swell in my body often, she had me to consult with my physician about the matter. My grandmother was a very intelligent woman that was very health conscience about herself and her family.
Now looking back at it all she may have been trying to diagnose me for goiters. A goiter is swelling and may be harmful. Goiters illustrate an iodine deficiency, and may also connect to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis a thyroid inflammation. http://www.webmd.com/women/picture-of-the-thyroid

This may be because they are suffering with underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism. http://www.yourhormones.info/hormones/thyroid_stimulating_hormone.aspx I believe my grandmother suffered with the underactive/ hypothyroidism thyroid, because she was sluggish, a heavy set woman in her later years and always felt like she was freezing even in the middle of the summer time. Nevertheless, she believed in vitamins and took them daily. I cannot say what they were, but feel like maybe her thyroid problem was the reason to her suffering with stage 5 breast cancer. If she would have known that they had something to regulate thyroid back to normal, I am sure she would have tried to get

The Apple iPhone did not make as big of a splash in Japan as Apple’s had hoped it would. The projection to sell a million iPhones in Japan unraveled and sales were very low. People of Japan were already aware of cell phones with a 3G network, which the faster network had been around for several years, much longer than the United States. A few problems that Japan had with the Apple iPhone were the touch screens, the iPhone were not as advanced as what they could already get in Japan, and the iPhone could not purchase train passes as the other phones did. “Emoji”, clip art that is used to create a more interesting and creative e-mail was also an application that Apple

1.Three additional applications of Frankfurt's view are high-satisfaction desires, pruning, and alignment with ethics. Alignment with ethics helps an individual live a fuller life because a person changing their motivations will help them feel less at odds with their ethical principles. Feeling less at odds with oneself will help a person feel fulfilled because they're being honest with themselves, as well as taking part in what matters to them, and what motivates them. For example, perhaps a person says they "care" about buying American-made items, and/or shopping local. However, this person's true motivation is to save money. Due to this, they often shop online and in stores where they can find the best deals. As a result, most of the
Some of the current changes that can be seen in regards to prescription privileges include changes in the ways that physicians and mental health professionals are able to prescribe medications to their patients. According to Brenda Smith of the APA (2012), currently patients receive their medications for psychological conditions by a physician usually without having been evaluated by a mental health practitioner according to the CDC. The trend includes individuals to visit their general health practitioners in order to receive psychotropic medications such as antidepressants and anxiolytics. The problem with individuals receiving these medications from other sources include: deterrence
The author Azeez Farooki MD in “Hypothyroidism: What You Should Know about Your Treatment”, focused on the drug levothyroxine which replaces the thyroid hormone that is not being produced in the body of people with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is very common and it affects more than 27 million people and mostly women and elderly. Levothyroxine is a synthetic medication and some people that take it have a more difficult time tolerating it or absorbing it the traditional way. The doctor might be able to prescribe a more natural “pure” levothyroxine formula to those people. The symptoms of hypothyroidism are very similar to many other diseases which sometimes can be overlooked and people become undiagnosed. It’s important to keep great communication with the doctor to have success in treatment. The treatment is usually a lifelong situation and the doctor
The differential diagnosis for Mary is hypothyroidism as her TSH was 6.5 mIU/l, along with antithyroid antibodies: 1:1,800. The pathophysiology entails having the thyroid hormone imbalance which results in the signs and symptoms of fatigue, cold intolerance, a crenulated tongue, headaches, and periorbital swelling. According to Garber et al. (2012), primary hypothyroidism differential diagnosis is made by the TSH, along with the T4 levels which is addressed by ensuring euthyroid state. There is a need to ensure that there is a balance between hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. This is called the euthyroid state where the TSH that should be between TSH 0.35 to 5.5 mIU per L. Levothyroxine is the medication that is used to replenish a hypothyroidism
b. Inflammation of the thyroid, having a surgical removal of your thyroid, or some medications are some causes of hypothyroidism.
The hormones regulate your metabolism, including the production of energy, hormones, tissue growth, elimination of waste products, and the distribution of nutrients in the blood. “Hyperthyroidism can affect all of your body functions. It causes the body’s normal rate of functioning to speed up. This can result in physical, behavioral, and emotional changes. Untreated hyperthyroidism can lead to serious medical problems. Hyperthyroidism cannot be prevented, but it is generally treatable and rarely fatal.” (Colonial Healthcare, 2018, para. 2). For nursing implication there isn’t anything to be aware of considering it is only known to be caused from hereditary factors. “Thyroid storm is most commonly associated with underlying Graves' disease, although has been reported with autonomous thyroid nodular disease.” (Carroll, 2014, para. 1) “The interference of thyroid hormones in this system and in cardiovascular events has been studied in recent years. However, the mechanisms involved in vascular, purinergic, and oxidative changes in thyroid disorders are not completely understood.” (Jucimara Baldissarelli, 2018, p.
Most people would not find weight loss, heat intolerance, and an elevated heart rate in a twelve year-old particularly worrying. Most people, assuming they even noticed these things, might write them off as “growing pains.” My mother, however, was not most people. She was a registered nurse, eighteen years in, and she had an inkling of what the symptoms might indicate. I remember feeling concerned that my mother had deemed it necessary to schedule an appointment at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Sitting in the examination room, I felt my nerves heighten as my mother described the seemingly inoffensive symptoms to the physician, who regarded her intently. The subsequent blood test confirmed what my mother had suspected: elevated T3/T4 and suppressed TSH levels, indicating hyperthyroidism.
