What does a scholarship to The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Nursing mean to me? Well, it means just about everything. As a freshman in high school, I always dreamed of attending a world-renowned University. However, what I didn’t realize is that regardless the thousands of scholarship applications I applied to. I still did not have enough money to attend. After receiving my acceptance letters to some of the largest Universities in the state of Texas my world felt like it was falling apart. Despite, this minor setback, I decided to take the road less traveled and enroll into Lonestar College. What I did not realize is the opportunity I was going to receive when attending Lonestar. Just before I began Lonestar in the fall
What makes us who we are, what drives our personality? Is it driven by deep seeded sexual desires or is it something a bit more mundane, something that while we still have no control over, is easily studied?
Psychoanalytic theory can be applied to client treatment by the suggestion that mental illness was treatable and that talking about problems could bring relief to that person. Psychoanalytic theory can be used to help clients in a way that it could help a victim to develop emotional and behavioral strategies to deal with the trauma they may have encountered.
Psychoanalysis is also used in the treatment of anxiety disorders and depression. It states in the behavioral observations that this is evidenced by the shaking hands the tearing when fill out the intake forms. I would then use free association in
Sigmund Freud 's psychoanalytic theory provided a basis for not only how, but why people act the way they do. One aspect of the theory argues that human behavior is a ramification of their adolescents in ways unaware to the subconscious, suggesting that “Unconscious forces in our personalities influence our motives and behaviors” (Nevid). Understanding Freud’s psychoanalytical theory helps provide an understanding the demeanor of Holden Caulfield, a young boy who is lost in his own world of isolation and adolescence, in J.D. Salinger 's famous narrative. The Catcher in the Rye. Using first person to display behavioral actions with phrases such as, “...I’m not going to be a goddam surgeon or a violinist or anything anyway” (Salinger 39),
In order to deal with the disorders that can occur, a form of therapy needed to be created. Psychodynamic therapy, the oldest for of psychological, began with Sigmund Freud. The approach focuses on individual personality dynamics either from a psychoanalytic or a psychodynamic. In a psychoanalytic oriented psychotherapy, the long-term procedure is used to uncover the repressed memories, fears, and conflicts said to develop from psychosexual development, while helping the patient to accept their past and come to terms with their situation (Hooley, Butcher, Nock, & Mineka, 2017). Freudian psychoanalysis consists of four different techniques: free association, analysis of dreams, analysis of resistance, and analysis of transference.
The psychodynamic perspective focuses on the role of the unconscious mind in the development of personality. Freud believed that the personality develops in a series of five stages that develop the three divisions of personality. In the oral stage, the fixation is in the mouth, and would be the cause of his introverted nature; likewise, in the anal stage, Roberto would discover his reserved nature, while the phallic stage, he would further refine his reserved nature as a sense of humility in his actions, also defining his mild mannered portion of his personality. In the latency stage, his social skills would refined and he would become introverted. Freud would think that Roberto’s mild-mannered, reserved, and invertedness is caused by intense suppressing of the id by the ego, having Roberto adopt the personality that he does; however, Karen Horney would classify Roberto’s personality in respect to her theory of neurotic personalities- personalities typified by maladaptive ways of dealing with relationships- with moving away from people by withdrawing from personal relationships.
The open house I attended on November 24, 2015 confirmed that this school was the best fit for my needs. I am extremely anxious and excited to begin my professional career in your program to work towards my Master’s degree in Nursing. Participation in nursing school will be a financial hardship for me because I have used all of my undergraduate financial aid through FAFSA. Through my entire college career, I have had to work two part time jobs in order to get by, working as a tutor and at a local McDonalds. If I am chosen for this scholarship, it will help me achieve my goal of becoming a nurse and serving the community for the rest of my career. Thank you for your time and
The End of the Fucking World is a story of two rebellious teens who decide to run away from home in order to escape their boring and unfortunate lives. James, who considers himself to be a psychopath, enjoys killing animals but wants to expand his killing to something much bigger; a human. In particular, he wants to kill Alyssa, which is why he agrees to run away with her in the hopes that he will have the opportunity to kill her. The two develop an unusual relationship after some misadventure.
The psychoanalytic perspective, is the outlook that behavior and personality are effected by the conflict between one’s inner dreams n and expectation of society. Most of this conflict occurs in unconscious, which is outside the knowledge of an individual. Renowned psychologist, Freud established the psychoanalytic theory as an explanation for perplexed phenomena such as the meaning behind dreams, slips of the tongue, and behavioral reflex reactions to stressful situations. The unconscious is a primary focus in psychoanalytic theory due to its typical development in childhood and the ways in which it influences nearly every detail of an individual’s life. The unconscious mind also holds unvented memories and unexpressed urges that make their process into the conscious mind through a variety of different means. However, topographical theory of the mind states that conscious, preconscious, and unconscious serve as motivating forces in human behavior. Corsin & Wedding (2011) define the conscious as mental activity which individuals are fully aware of, preconscious as thoughts and feelings that could be easily brought to mind and unconscious as thoughts, feelings, and desires of which one is unaware of.
Psychoanalytic or identification theory is one of the three theories that explains why gender differences exist, based on Freud’s interpretation of personality differences. He proposes five substages of psychosexual stage, where individuals face different fixation and depending on how they coop, the later outcome—personality and gender differences—is determined. Phallic stage, which occurs around the age between three and six, holds greater significance as this is when children begin identifying with their same sex parent. Boys encounter a phenomenon known as oedipus complex, where an intense fixation on their mother transforms into an intense rivalry toward their father. They eventually learn to identify with his father however, as a resolution of fear that they will be castrated by their father. Subsequently, girls encounter an electra complex. They blame and depart themselves from their mothers for their lack of penis, also known as penis envy. Such fixation on penis transforms into a fixation on reproducing and girls begin to consider their father as a love object. They soon realize they can’t possess their father, leading them identify with their mothers and seeks to attract
Psychoanalysis was the name given by Sigmund Freud to a system of interpretation and therapeutic treatment of psychological disorders. (McLeod, 2007) In particular, we present five key concepts on psychoanalytic therapy: structure of personality, psychosexual stages, defense mechanism, anxiety, and the unconscious mind.
We have been talking about personality, ethics, and different aspects of the psychoanalytic theory in these past two weeks. There has been more information that I have learned, along with information I was already familiar with, however, it certainly cleared up things that were a little foggy from before. This class is by far the most interesting class that I have taken and it keeps me engaged every day. I am still looking forward to learning everything else that I have yet to learn.
When we talk about Psychoanalytic theory the first name that comes to mind is Sigmund
This week we learned about the psychoanalytic process of therapy and what clients go through during therapy when counselors are utilizing this theory. I thought this was a little different to what I visualize of when a client comes in for therapy. Oh really, why is that? Okay let me explain what is involved during psychoanalytic therapy and you tell me if it is what you picture for therapy? Ok. During this type of therapy there are four phases a client goes through. At the beginning, the client will go through an opening phase. During this phase the counselor will determine whether the client would be a good candidate for analysis. If the client is a good candidate for analysis, the role of the client and counselor are explained along with the goals. This is what I found to be a little out there. The primary analytic technique is called free association in which the client lays down on a couch and is required to say whatever comes to mind no matter how frivolous it may be (Murdock, 2013). Freud insisted that his clients do this and “it is called the “fundamental rule” of psychoanalysis” (Murdock, 2013 p.49). If the client meets the qualifications for analysis the counselor explains that “fundamental rule” that they must follow. They must lie down on a couch? Yep apparently with this therapy, they do. Wow, I would feel a little awkward doing that. So would I. Role of the counselor during the analysis, I thought is normal for the most part. The counselor at the beginning
Features of the Psychoanalytic and Humanistic Perspectives Outline the key features of the psychoanalytic and humanistic perspectives, and briefly compare and contrast their views on conscious experience, a person as an integrated whole, and the role of therapists in arriving at changes. Answer In explaining and predicting animal behaviour, different schools of psychology are of different perspectives; e.g. cognitive approach focuses on the mental processes, behaviourism is based on external stimuli and reinforcement, biological approach is concerned with the relationship between the mind and body and the influence of heredity.
