Upon taking my first psychology course in my Undergraduate studies, I knew the field of psychology was something I was greatly interested in. When it came time to start considering which career path within the field of psychology was the right fit for me, my research lead me to school psychology. During which, I continued to take various psychology courses and discovered that my school was offering a school psychology course, taught be a school psychologist. After only the first week or 2 of the school psychology course, I was hooked. The professor not only brought to life what the field entitled, such as the various assessments and situations one might encounter, but did so by sharing what it is like in a day for a school psychologist. With the course, it clarified that this field is certainly one to further look into, and possibly gain hands on experience and insight.
Following the course, I took a psychology practicum class, in which, I was able to volunteer 100 hours of my time, working under a school psychologist at South Orangetown Middle School, in Rockland County, NY. My experiences at the middle school verified to me that a school environment is the best fit for me, in that, I can truly see myself in this line of work. After meeting some of the staff members and interacting with many students, there were several kids’ life stories that will stick with me as I advance throughout the field. One student, for instance, had been going some rough times at home. The student’s family financial status was quite poor, that the availability to

Personally, school was my home away from home, however, at times, it had its fair share of challenges and struggles, making certain days at school feel difficult. The struggle I faced throughout my early school years, was how I used to be very nervous, shy, and concerned over having my grades and work perfect, and well as what others thought of me. Such that, if any grade on my school work came back with anything less than a 90 percent, would leave me upset and frazzled for days. Similarly, when it came to making friends, I was always frightened of acting or saying anything in a way that would mark me as the weird girl in the school. Therefore, in order to avoid looking or feeling dumb, I would not communicate with anyone unless they initiated a conversation. Remembering how rough those years were for me, makes it further important that with the increased amount of pressure placed on children today to excel, it is important that they feel they have a safe place, and person, to turn
Multiple years of research and field experience as well as my undergraduate coursework in Psychology, Counseling, and General Education has provided me with ample skills to be successful at the graduate level in the School Psychology program offered at Francis Marion University. Working within the school system with students with mental health needs and exceptionalities has been a dream of mine since I was in high school. I am confident the School Psychology program at Francis Marion University will provide me with the skill set needed to make my dream a reality and become the best School Psychologist I can be.
Having pursued employment opportunities that allowed me to make a positive difference on the lives of the less fortunate, the Counselling Psychology course at University of East London is an obvious field that will allow me to continue these desires. Ultimately, this course allows me to change the lives of people and obtain my goals. The course prepares me for employment as a professional clinician, and grants me the ability to continue the promotion of well-being.
“It takes a village to raise a child.” I never quite understood that saying when I was growing up, but my experiences teaching and working in school settings have showed me how true it really is. Obtaining a degree in school psychology will allow me to give the support that students, families and educators need to ensure that every student will thrive.
My heart remains set on becoming a psychologist and I plan to accomplish that dream in the years to come. For now, I am taking an AP psychology class while I finish my senior year; I decided to get a taste for what the rest of my life will be like. Thankfully, this class has only cleared my vision for becoming a psychologist. I’ve learned that the term “psychology” itself is rather broad. There are many fields and subfields in psychology, not to mention there are psychiatrists and psychoanalysts as well. I’m not sure what field exactly I want to partake in, but I’m hoping that I will be able to make a choice when I attend CU Boulder in the
It is my strong desire to attend Fielding Graduate University APA (American Psychological Association) accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology. I have always been intrigued by the human mind for as long as I can remember, specifically the psychopathology of it. I truly enjoy conducting psychological research, learning about psychopathology and how to treat it. While conducting research and learning, it is important to remember that the purpose of psychology isn’t to predict a person’s thoughts, actions, and behaviors, but to understand them. There are dozens of events that occurred in my twenty-five years of life that led me to this meaningful choice of pursuing a doctorate. The two most significant events were when I was in the
School Psychology is a general practice and health service provider specialty of professional psychology that is deals with the practice of psychology with children, youth, families; learners of all ages; and the schooling process. The basic education and training of school psychologists prepares them to provide a large range of diagnosis, assessment, intervention, prevention, health promotion, and program development and evaluation services with a special focus on the developmental processes of children and youth within the context of schools, families, and other systems (Ehly, 1986).
I was not going to let another student fall right through the cracks like my brother did. Instead, I want to spend my life being a bridge across those gaps. After experiencing first hand how vital school psychology can be in students’ lives, it became clearer to me where my future was heading. I have always been motivated to help others; today I understand that the best way for me to do this is by entering the education field as an elementary School Psychologist.

I immensely enjoy working in the School Psychology field because it provides me the most comforting inner solace. Hailing from a sparingly educated, small town Indian family where cultural, moral and political values took a little more precedence over higher education, I was
I am interested in being a school psychologist for a variety of reasons. First, I believe that my background in working with children and families, and my B.A. in psychology are essential combinations that will be helpful in my pursuit of the degree. Second, I would like to work with children in a variety of educational situations, such as those in need of special education classes and those in talented and gifted programs. Third, I believe it is essential to work directly with the entire family system, not just the child. The child's progress depends on the home environment and the academic environment equally. This academic environment includes all professions (i.e., teachers,
With determination and hard work, I plan on obtaining my undergraduate degree in psychology. My interest remains centered on the Biopsychology aspect of psychology, which includes the brain and its behavior. I often find myself drawn to the actions of people, from which my passion for psychology grows stronger from the analyses of their behaviors. For example, I always wonder why those affected by mental disorders act dramatically different in certain situations, while others act calmly and subtly. Since being immersed in the field of psychology, I have picked out events in reality and have begun to see these events through a different lens.
When I declared a psychology major during the second year of my undergraduate career, my objective was to attend medical school and eventually become a psychiatrist. I enjoyed the psychology classes in which I was enrolled and found them to compliment the premed curriculum I also wanted to study. I reasoned that a major in psychology would provide insight that could later be useful in my planned studies of psychiatry. Although I decided against going to medical school, psychology remained the primary area of focus of my studies with the ultimate career goal of becoming a clinical psychologist. While my long term professional plans include achieving a PhD and becoming a clinical psychologist. Pursuing a masters degree in
I am sending an email in response to the question you posed in the videos. I am starting my third year in the Ph.D school psychology program. I switched from the Ed.S program to the Ph.D program this fall. I am not certain why I chose school psychology. My bacholers is in Political Science and Psychology. I always thought I was going to go to law school, I even took the LSAT. While I was applying for law schools, I decided the career may not make me happy, so I found school psychology. I also saw a lot of unemployed laweyers when I was applying for law school. I want to work with any population. My practcum last year was at an elementary, middle school, and high school. I enjoyed working with all of the age groups. I have worked with children
At the beginning of this semester I thought that I had the field of Psychology entirely figured out. However, I have learned that my knowledge of the field is actually very limited and distorted by many of society's misconceptions. Although, a lot of my viewpoints have changed throughout this semester, my reasoning for choosing the field has not. I still have a thorough fascination of people and their behavior. I have also realized what aspects of the field I like and do not particularly care for. Due to this course I now have a deeper and more extensive understanding of Psychology and the possible career paths I can take.
Already getting started next year, I enrolled into a psychology class to get a jumpstart for when I go into college. I chose to enroll into the psychology class because the human mind is something that is very complex and diverse. By me taking this class, I am partially more ahead and more taught than that of a student who doesn’t take the class. And that way, when I get into the psychology major, I have a small intake of what it is all about.
