The philosophy of childhood is that young children develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, linguistically and physically, each at their own, unique pace. They learn through hands-on, sensory-oriented exploration and discovery, and also constructing meaning through interaction with their environments. In other words, most children learn by playing. <p> The role of the adult in their lives is to facilitate children's learning by providing developmentally appropriate spaces, materials and challenges. The affective role of the adult is, of course, to provide love and a nurturing, bias-free environment. As an adult it is their duty to provide children with the best possible learning environment. They will pay close attention to each child in order to identify their learning style and then provide the best learning opportunities that will support a child's intellectual, social, and personal development. <p> An adult must understand that children learn about their environment through hands-on activities and exploration as well as play. They must also believe that interaction and play with adults and peers provide the stimulation required for the learning process to take place. In order for children to learn higher levels tasks they must be assisted by adults. Adults play a major role in a child's development and learning by guiding, supporting, modeling, motivating, encouraging, and reinforcing with positive feedback. <p> I believe that the most important needs of young children that must be met in a quality early childhood development are social and emotional skills. Children need to develop self-image and genuine concern for others. As for an adult, it is their role to make the children aware that they are creating a cooperative community in which they have personal responsibilities and responsibilities toward their peers. Children need to learn to share, play cooperatively, take turns, solve problems, communicate their thoughts and feelings appropriately, make their own decisions, and problem
