During my undergraduate career at Florida A&M University, I discovered the Public Health graduate school program and I knew this would be a perfect way to make health and diseases, infectious and otherwise, fit into my future plans while expanding my horizons. I have the desire to be one of the movers in the healthcare field, finding answers to the never-ending questions as to why certain diseases are prevalent and others are not. I want to be the person that researches, plans, and executes healthcare programs and policies that will ultimately improve the healthcare field in America. I naturally see myself as a leader and I know that the field of Public Health will help me sharpen my skills as well as bring out the leader that I know I am. …show more content…
My goals of conducting research is in infectious diseases, mainly on how to reduce the frequency of their acquisition and transmission. After graduating with a Master’s of Public Health I plan on working in a healthcare facility, whether in a private organization, like Red Cross, a hospital, or a government facility. Ultimately, my dream career goal is to be a Public Health Program Supervisor or Program Coordinator. Holding this title will allow me to work with other healthcare leaders on discovering ways to decrease a disease’s prevalence in the immediate community and even
The invaluable skills that I have gained and learned through my after school clubs, Future Business Leaders of America, (FBLA) and National Honor Society( NHS), has stirred up a desire in me to help my community and to make a difference in the lives of people, by majoring in the Public Health field. Through Public Health, I will help those in my community at large to live healthy lives; mentally, socially, physically and culturally. Healthcare is an essential need in life and is a great field that would allow me to make a difference.
The healthcare sector offers a variety of professional opportunities that include pediatric, geriatrics, public policy and many other areas in which I hope to make a impact towards. I have always been intrigued by medicine and continue to gain more interest in public health. In the future, I desire to combine both medicine and public health by participating in an MD and MPH program. My experiences and education provide me with constant motivation in achieving my goals.
With this, I hope to be able to broaden my experience so that I can apply it into researching infectious and chronic diseases, while focusing on the chemical aspects of this research topic. I hope to also broaden my network of peers and mentors in order to gain experience and knowledge from them, which I can further apply to discover novel ideas pertaining to infectious and chronic diseases. With this experience and knowledge, I hope to be able to participate in research as a career, whether it be in an academic setting as part of a research team in a university, or in an independent or government research lab wherein I can apply all that I have learned and will
My goals for the next ten years, would be to get accepted to medical school and to graduate from medical school. Specifically, my top three medical schools that I would love to go to would be Oklahoma University Medical School, University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Oklahoma State Center for Health Sciences. To be honest though my top three are the places I would absolutely love to go to, I would gladly take a medical school that would accept me. Currently my plans for a specialty in medical school is endocrinology or immunology, I love the way that the body interacts with itself and how it is able to get confused and attack itself is probably my main interest in the specialty. My goals after I graduate medical school are, working in a hospital somewhere in Oklahoma, preferably in Oklahoma City or Tulsa, and work there as a resident for a time until I would be able to open up my own private practice or join a private practice and continue my health career from there. One of the things that has become increasingly interesting with me is Doctors Without Borders, which may end up being something that I would participate in after medical school during my residency or around the time that I would join a private practice.
While interacting with current medical students pursuing the MD/MPH dual degree at a UTHSCSA student panel, I realized that obtaining an MPH would align greatly with my interests and career goals, allowing me to expand the scope of my medical education and enhance my critical thinking skills. I enjoy how public health combines various aspects needed to treat disease and improve health outcomes, and I know that integrating the MPH core concepts with my medical degree, will help me to become a well-rounded and better physician who approaches healthcare through both an individual and population-based perspective. An education in public health will provide me with various opportunities ranging from the creation and development of community health projects, to contributing to the modification of current health policies. I will seize the opportunity to work with professionals from all occupations including educators, clinicians, executives, and I will become an advocate and a credible voice for positive change through a better understanding of the healthcare system that is in place
After receiving my bachelor's degrees in Public Health and Foreign Language and International Economics, and masters degrees in Epidemiology and International Economics, I plan on serving a minimum of six months with Doctors Without Borders-- a health advocacy organization that deploys doctors to communities with active need. Not only is this how I plan to serve my global community directly, but I also plan on using this international service work to develop my career. After going on to receive a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, I plan on becoming an economic advisor, or occupying a related job in a healthcare agency so that I may lead an initiative in solving the economic woes of African countries to set them up for long-term
Organizations, groups, churches, etc. all have a vision and mission. As a graduate student I have come up with a vision and mission statement that are motivational in my success as a graduate student. My vision as a MHA student in graduate education at Belhaven University is to remain curious, creative and a thinker who will remain courageous as I develop the servant leadership knowledge offered, that will allow me the opportunity to be a valuable Healthcare leader who can work both independently and collaboratively. I will face many challenges with an open mind and seek answers and ways to improve the changing arena of Health Care. As a graduate student I would like to expand my knowledge and discovery of the health care system.
Once I have practiced medicine within a marginalized community and made a sufficient impact on its state of health, my final career goal is to serve the CDC. At the CDC I wish to be a part of the Epidemic Intelligence Service, EIS. The EIS is a workforce that employs a range of healthcare professional that combats global epidemics. I envision that partaking in the MHIRT program will provide the perfect opportunity to get a better understanding of how being an EIS officer is like. As a future career goal, I want to immerse myself in a completely different environment while striving towards improving the health of the local community.
Currently a senior majoring in public health at the University of Arizona, I have demonstrated a great academic performance in all my public health courses, maintaining a 3.7 GPA. The courses I have completed have given me the tools and knowledge required to be successful in administrative strategies within a health care setting. This included database management, computer programs, and finance. With these competencies, I also have the ability to learn and adapt quickly in difficult situations.
A Deaf weight wise program enrolled over 104 adults to participate in an evidence-based research to determine if changing behavioral health associated to obesity can be reduced in the Deaf community of Rochester, New York. The implementation program aim to reduce weight gain in specifically the American Sign Language (ASL) population through self-monitoring activities and live counseling sessions (University of Rochester Medical Center [URMC], 2016).
In order for me to have a meaningful impact, I will need to be equipped with the vast knowledge that a course of graduate study in public health will provide. Studying health policy and management will especially be beneficial in furthering my understanding on how to handle administrative roles not only assisting people that are currently ill, but also preempting illness in communities that are the least equipped to handle it. To affect positive change on a large scale, my goal is to become a Legislative Policy Advisor, and to use my expertise to advocate for policy that increases access to healthcare, and more specifically to preventative care to those who need it most. The Affordable Care Act has expanded access to healthcare in ways many longtime advocates never thought possible. However, I believe there is so much more that can be done to help, like facilitating ways that allow people to circumvent existing laws that restrict treatment, and addressing the health crises faced by both our poor urban and rural communities. I should be accepted into ______ at ______ because I bring a unique perspective, being one of only a handful of biology and political science double majors, along with my intrinsic motivation to accomplish my goals using a breadth of experience in two widely disparate
Whenever I’m searching for classes to register for, the ones that always hold my interest are about disease. Whether they are communicable or not, I always seem to have a fascination. Both my personal and intellectual interest in public health is due to this. Unfortunately, my family has a long history of disease. Lucky for me, I have been able to stay clear of the family tradition. Yet having the ability to learn more about how disease and pathogens work has always attracted me. As the first person in my family to go to college, it is important to all of us that I have a career that I
My interest for public health stems from the need to aid numerous people in disease and injury prevention, health protection, and strategies for health promotion. I hope to earn a Master of Public Health with a focus in the area of health care management as well as hospital administration in relation to public health policy development and education. I aspire to develop enhanced intervention policies that can provide the population with direct access to primary health care due to public health preparedness education and strategic planning.
After finishing my Undergraduate, I have seen it wise to purse masters in public health, an area that I have much interest in. Having pursed a Bachelor of Science, Biological Sciences, minor in psychology, expanding my knowledge in the field of public health has been my next option. The vast knowledge that I have gained learning and working can help me while pursuing this program. Given the chance I would be able to fulfill my career goals.
One of the most appealing aspects of becoming a public health professional is the wide range of careers available to choose from. My career goals coincide with the range of opportunities; however, ultimately I want to work with an organization similar to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. I want to focus on the social and medical aspects of disease, and examine the disproportionate rates of disease and disability among minorities. I also want to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS that is rapidly destroying so many countries. My passion to help others around me has sparked a desire to work with clinics around the world in order to promote change in the treatment and prevention of devastating diseases like HIV/AIDS.
