There is a dramatic increase in the number of children who are being affected by diabetes and obesity in America. Sugary drinks and unhealthy snacks should be taken out of the vending machines in schools and replaced with healthier choices to help stop this trend. Some may argue that taking
Of all of the problems that dishearten children today, the one that bothers them the most is being unhealthy. Five out of six students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School agree that there should be a change in the schools' cafeteria foods; they came up with a solution to help kids be healthy. Unhealthy foods should be eliminated in schools for many reasons. First of all, kids concentrate better when they are healthy. Being healthy helps children to concentrate better because if they are healthy in the inside and the outside, they will not have to worry about their health or how they look. Secondly, having only healthy foods in school help parents to take good care of their kids. For instance, imagine a mom that is a seventh
Other people think that it is the government’s problem to fix obesity. Although the government’s efforts have been provided, they have been lackluster and ineffective through society. The government has implemented such organizations such as the ABA to regulate beverages in schools to make for a better lunch. They try to regulate beverages in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and even times of day they can and can’t be sold (Source A). This is ineffective because this just causes people to bring in their own unhealthy drinks, and more likely more of them then needed because they can’t buy them in school.
Schools do a “good” job in promoting certain healthy foods in their cafeterias. Yes, students do not enjoy eating them but it is for their good. The fact that schools sell the “baked” chips is a good and a bad idea. It is a good idea because they are healthier than the regular chips sold in grocery stores and smaller than regular sizes. The bad part comes to the fact that they are still being sold and most students prefer to purchase them instead of fruits. In my case, I know I would prefer to eat those chips instead of the fruits. Vending machines are rarely seen in schools but the schools that do have them do not have healthy items inside. Sodas and junk snacks are what are mostly seen in those vending machines along with others. Students
Argumentative Research Paper for School Nutrition and Education Programs Do you let your children eat school lunches? Your answer may depend on your income level, time in the morning for lunch preparation, or your concern for your child’s health. Schools should continue in improving the nutrition of school lunches; however, physical
According to the WHO (World Health Organization) the health of the people in the United States has not always been the greatest. With an obesity rate of 33.9 percent, which translates into over 106 million obese Americans, this has caused many problems to arise and impact the daily lives of Americans. Many have tried to help in regards to this issue by improving school foods or attempting to encourage more physical activity. Unfortunately, these may have helped but only in a small scale. However, a fellow at the Union of Concerned Scientists, Mark Bittman believes that he may have a definitive solution. On May 25, 2016, in “Taxing Sugar to Fund a City” New York Times food journalist, Mark Bittman, by using the taxing of sugary beverages in Philadelphia - America’s poorest big city - earnestly
Parents should shape their children eating habit, by giving them healthy food such as vegetable, and fruit. Parents should prevent their children to have access to junk food, and decrease kids’ food preference. Parents can also encourage their kids to walk to and from school if the school is not too far. Parents should cut off TV time for their kids to two hours a day. Moderate physical activity is very important for children to maintain healthy weight. Kids should be encourage to exercise at 30 minutes a day. This should be done at school since children spend most of their day time at school. Another action that needs to be taken to reduce childhood obesity is food regulation at elementary schools. Government should remove vending machines from all elementary school because these foods contain high calories. The price of low calories food should be reduced to encourage children to eat healthy.
The current state of affairs isn’t ideal for school children as many schools offer children foods of minimal nutritional value with some schools still allowing fast food restaurants to provide their services in high schools and middle schools. The current policies actually contribute to the toxic environment that many children face both at home and at school as those most impacted by the obesity epidemic are minority and poor urban children who don’t have healthy choices at home or in school. Part of the problem
Junk food is becoming a problem in many countries in the world, specifically one of them being the United States, in which the health of children doesn’t exactly seem like top priority. While it is true that banning junk food in schools limits the children’s
Thank you for your time today. I am writing to you in hope that you will understand the issue and be motivated to make changes due to it. In the united states at least 678,000 deaths each year die due to poor diet, lack of nutrition, obesity and obesity rates have tripled in children. Children all learn what they know, and that includes knowledge on a proper diet, in school, so why are schools not helping enough in this matter? Why are schools hiding healthy eating habits behind bought pizzas and chips and other junk foods in the cafeteria? We, in the united states, are required to educate children in health at schools, through P.E. and health classes, and should not undermine their work by giving out the opposite of what we suggest. Many may say that this takes away freedom or is not that big of a problem, but do children really want to be obese or unhealthy? Do students want to die young from linked diseases such as Diabetes type 2 and cardiovascular diseases? No. They would still have food choices, but they would be able to have better options to choose, ones where facts and statistics do not cause fear in parents, but happiness.
Should Vending Machines be Turned off during the School Day? Many schools nowadays turn off their vending machines during the school day to prevent students from eating fattening foods. In California and Hawaii, state legislators are very close to passing a law that would ban any drinks excluding milk, water or juice from being sold in elementary schools, and reduce the hours older students can use the vending machines. Michelle Obama and the Obama Administration have asked Congress to improve children's nutrition by getting rid of school vending machines that provide students with sugary snacks and drinks. The problem with this is school’s are making an extravagant amount of money off feeding their students with artificial flavoring and
With the incidence of childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease continuing to climb, it is understandable that concerned individuals searching for effective methods of reversing this trend would target school lunches. Children consume up to half of their daily calories during school, but the government has not yet placed any limitations on the sugar content of their meals. When viewed generally, the implementation of restrictions on the amount of sugar in school meals appears to be the universal solution to combatting childhood health problems, but in practice it cannot be feasibly implemented in Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. Although sugar is a major factor contributing to the declining health of the adolescent
It’s becoming common in America that kids are obese. Fast food joints, unhealthy meals at home, and even school lunches are contributing to obesity in young children. Monday through Friday kids spend most of their time at school. being educated in just about everything besides the food
Should changes be made to the regulations for the foods that are served in public schools? This can be a very controversial question to most people; children with obesity, parents who do not care and for who does care about the health of the children and teachers who only wants what is best for the benefit of the children. This paper will attempt to explain and convince the unknown of why it is very important for our public schools to have a healthy eating curriculum for the children that attends there. If society can find a way to come together for the children of the community to fight to have healthier foods in the community, come together and provide counsel to the children of what healthy eating is all about. This paper will
If we teach young kids from now on about nutritional foods they will be aware of what they eat and will have a healthy eating habit and therefore a better community. Having better foods at cheaper prices will make more people buy them and not spending their money in junk food. Muffins, fried food, burgers, pizzas, cheese pies this calorie-high, sugary-rich foods on sale to us one out of three children is obese Selling of junk food to minors on a daily basis should be considered child abuse. Our generation has more cardiovascular diseases than ever before due to obesity. People can ban junk food from schools and educate the students about nutritious foods before it’s too late! Otherwise in about 10 years half of EIS community will be obese and these will not be good for our sports teams there is little or no nutritional value to junk food, and it is so necessary to teach children about healthy eating habits. We do not need junk food in school systems! Junk food has no benefits at all and unnecessary If we want students to stay get rid of these killer
