Right away our team realized this was not going to work, but as young sales reps nobody voiced a strong opinion against the approach or spoke up about the possible negatives associated with mass emailing. The problems we saw right away included inaccurate contact information, emailing non-decision makers, and a cookie cutter approach that was not resonating with the market. We also ran into internal problems. Due to the inaccurate info, an a few occasions we reached out to current clients. This was telling the clients that we do have stuff together. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed.
The most recent definition of public relations, according to the Public Relations Society of America (2012), states that “Public Relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.” Through the rapid advancement of modern media and technology, there have never been more outlets and opportunities available for accomplishing the goals of public relations.
