T-00586085, University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. Public service is the passion of an individual or a community to contribute positive work with the goal of developing a sustainable and meaningful service. An active public service community uses available resources and their expertise of the human resources to create a lasting impact by identifying issues and creating solutions for single or multiple communities according to their apparent needs. Public service may be implemented physically, financially or by compensation with the intent of an individual but rather the positive impact that it can have on society as a whole. In Public service for one to come up with a positive and lasting impact on the community one has to have a passion or commitment to whatever he/she does, for instance an example of a traffic police officer in Uganda who stands in the scorching sun from morning to sunset not only to fulfill his obligation but also to ensure that the people on the road have got to move or vehicles to move and the rate of accident reduced. In the reading of People’s Lawyers, Crusaders for Justice in American History by Diana Klebanow and Franklin L. Jonas (p.261) we see the passion that this lawyer had for Public service and his work where he took two weeks off from his law practice to assist Houston with the brief. His passion was clearly seen when Houston returned Marshall’s first draft with the notation “It needs to be thoroughly
It seems that when most people decide to enter the profession of law, they imagine working for a big firm, with a big office, and a big salary; this has never been my dream. My dream is to serve and see if I can make at least a small difference. I know it sounds corny, but I have always believed that I have a responsibility to give back to the people that have given me so much. That’s what has and always will drive me. Whether I end up serving as the city attorney for a small town like Chinook, or holding the highest office a public servant can, I am setting out on this endeavor of my life hoping just to simply help
The most significant impact I have made in public service/policy has been working with Inspire Arizona. Inspire Arizona is a nonpartisan non-profit program that focuses on registering newly eligible voters, specifically high school juniors, and seniors. The organization is trying to increase voter registration among young people and making sure students build a habit of voting very early in their young life. This summer I had the experience of participating in a political campaign. I canvassed for Athena Salman who is running for House in the Arizona Legislature in District 26. This is my first real world experience in public service
Public participation is an important aspect of any community and benefits realized from inculcating it in the system of any public setup treats any possible problem. Some of the core merits any public institution produces is enabling the community to participate in decision-making and planning. For this reason, they are more likely to interact with established mechanisms. Moreover, apart from helping bring about a sense of community, public participation enables institutions to set goals and objectives that suit that long-term service delivery. San Diego Unified district school is among the many educational centers in the United States that have embraced this useful method to warrant continuous progress. Therefore, they recently organized a school board meeting on 27th September 2016 to provide an update on what was going on in the institution as well give the public an opportunity to discuss their concerns and contributions. This paper analyzes the nature and role of public participation in uniting the community and institutions that serve its members. Evidently, although the meeting had some hitches in terms of short notices and low ethnic representation, it was successful because the community and the institution discussed agenda and non-agenda matters and settled for proposals to increase engagement in the future.
If the community works together we could accomplish great things. Community service can build houses for the homeless, work at shelters and help the poor and famished. This is a great thing to do for others and for yourself. Community service
Community service is defined as services volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a community
By and far - my passion in life is public service. The ability to serve the community who helped mold who I am today is an almost euphoric feeling. Moreover, using my talents to influence a greater tomorrow is an idea that has stuck to me for the entirety of my life. Even so, public service is in some regards a dying art and it is coincidentally my greatest loves in this life; and I could not imagine a life in which I am not participating or facilitating in building a better life for all of my fellow citizens and brethren. From planning a community food packing event that led to over 56,000 meals packed for the impoverished in our community and Nicaragua to proudly serving as a campaign manager for a local county commissioners race - the idea
Public policy is a set of laws that are enacted to reach a specific goal. These goals are genuinely made to be for the interest of the greater good, and the majority of people. For example, the policy for red light cameras in Rochester was enacted to help reduce the accident rates from people running red lights. Even though this causes people to pay fees for getting caught by the cameras, the greater good is helped because there are less traffic accidents. Public policy helps steer the country in the ways that our great minds think would be the best direction for the majority.
There are several benefits of working in the public sector such as job security, helping the community, you work less while earning more, you also get a pension scheme. There are also some bad that comes along with working for the public sector like lack of incentives, possible lower salary, bureaucracy. It is also hard to get advancement opportunities because it usually goes to senior employees.
Do good service that are intended for the benefit of the society, nation and the world
I am committed to pursuing a career in public interest, but I am aware of the financial and vocational hurdles that can come with it. It’s important that the school I attend has extensive resources and opportunities for students interested in public service. UC Hastings variety of public interest programs, grants/fellowships and Civil Justice clinic demonstrates an institutional commitment to producing impactful public servants, as well as a commitment to under-represented and underserved communities. The programs and university support are unique among the schools I’m considering. I am particularly interested the community economic development focus of the civil justice clinic. The PLRI and generous PICAP program are unique offerings I couldn’t
Public interest refers to the social factors or influence decision making by administrators in public administration. Public interest in public administration falls in four broad categories. Firstly is the perfectionist point of view. Under this, public interest is viewed from the point of excellence promotion in social activities. According to this view, public resources should be spent in a manner that most of the society members benefit fully from. Herring, E. P. (1936). Public administration and the public interest.
There are mistakes, maladministration and misunderstanding that may occur during the delivery of public service in the United Kingdom (UK). The citizens have a right to complain if they feel aggrieved. There are many citizens who normally complain not only for their benefit but to ensure that the public service is improved so that it can cater for the needs of the citizens and so that the same mistakes are not inflicted on others. However, there are instances when the complaints are not resolved by the said service provider. In such an instance when an individual feels that the complaint has not been fully addressed by the government agency, department or National Health Service (NHS) in England, then that individual has a right of asking for the complaint to be referred to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) or the individual can personally refer the matter to the PHSO. This paper seeks to discuss the single reform of the PHSO that would best serve the interests of administrative justice.
According to Brueggemann (2014)“Communities are natural human groups, networks, and associations of people related to one another by at least one common or compelling factor in more or less loosely linked forms of connection”(p.142). Communities are not only a place where a group of people cohabitate but a linkage among people sharing common interests and activities. In every community there are social workers that advocate on the behalf of the vulnerable and oppressed population. A social worker needs to become familiar with the communities that their clients reside in, to better provide local resources and aid to clients. In every community there are resources and assets that could be used to improve its social environment. For example, many communities have programs like the YMCA that promotes youth development and communication among people living in the community. In addition, a social worker that provides direct services to client needs to be aware of the resources available within the community and the population seeking the assistance. By identifying which people live in a certain community, social workers could develop cultural humility and have a better understanding of their client’s values, morals and heritage. Having this knowledge is crucial since some resources are specifically tailored to certain groups. For instance, some senior centers provide meals, transportation, and employment assistance for the elderly. Knowing the population that lives
Public administration was once defined as "a detailed and systematic execution of public law" (Boundreau, 1950, p. 371). However, in White's book Introduction to the Study of Public Administration, he defined it as " 如ublic administration consists of all those operations having for their purpose the fulfillment or enforcement of public policy, as declared by the competent authorities" (Boundreau, 1950, p. 371). The public interest in public administration is making decisions and carrying out duties by the government that corresponds and agrees with the majority of the public. The public is made up of individuals, and groups that embody various ideals, points of views, and interests. In a way, public interest is defined as "a working compromise and be subject to continuous redefinition, as need arises, in the process of achieving an often delicate balance among conflicting interests" (Boundreau, 1950, p. 371).
In light of this, the Public Service will be judged by one criterion, “its effectiveness in delivering services that needs of all South African citizens”. Public Services are not privileges in a civilized and democratic society. They are legitimate expectations. That is why meeting the basic needs of all citizens is one of the five key
