It can be extremely terrifying for some people however it can be easier for other’s. “You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there” (Yogi Berra). This quote says millions of things to different people but to me putting this into public speaking means that if you don’t know how to start a speech or presentation you won’t get anywhere and your public speaking will suffer. Creating a speech could be simple if you follow a series of steps that will guide you from the beginning and end of your speech. Before you begin your speech, you must pick a topic that you are knowledgeable about. The topic must have a purpose that pertains to the audience. The topic may be broad, but you must narrow it down to a briefer topic. There are many speech styles including manuscript, extraneous, impromptu, informative, and persuasive. In most cases, it will be easy to determine the style for your topic. After that is figured out, you must create a thesis which is one declarative sentence that states the main message that you are trying to figure out. That main message must have at least three points that you can elaborate on to explain your topic. While researching your topic, you must make sure to obtain information not only from the internet, but also from books, newspapers, magazines, journals, etc.
