Maquiladoras are assembly plants clustered mostly in northern Mexico, along the U.S. border. The factories employ 17 percent of the Mexican work force, this makes maquiladoras Mexico’s second largest source of jobs but some people would say that the negatives weight over the positives. Some negatives about this situation are that how the Mexican government does not have full control of the factories, how the employees have to work in harsh conditions and, the employees get paid a low wage. Maquiladoras have both a positive and negative effect on the Mexican economy because of the poor work conditions, however the large numbers of the population they employ cannot be ignored.
Researchers could improve and expand studies on the policies of the corporations as well as study the girls and women possibly through self-report or observation. Subsequently, research may help expand and educate public knowledge as well as assist in changes to end the violence against the girls and women of the maquiladoras.
This paper will analyze whether Pablo Escobar was a Modern day Robin Hood or a Murderous Tyrant. Escobar to this day is still a highly controversial character and is perceived differently throughout Columbia. The topic was undertaken by thorough research and analyzing documents and interviews. Due to lack of Primary Documents, the majority of my research was from secondary sources. Pablo Escobar grew up in a time period which was referred to simply as the Violencia, Pablo was known as a loving father and the people saw him as a local boy who had done well for himself and gave back millions to the community. Escobar was not always seen as a charitable figure he was targeted by extreme left winged guerrillas. Intimidation and violence were the
Colombian culture is a culture rich in traditions and beliefs that are a combination of the indigenous Indians native to Colombia, the Spanish who colonized Colombia in the 1400’s, as well as the influence of the land itself. It is a country rich in biodiversity with around 1,550 species of birds and more than 13,000 species of plants within a mostly temperate landscape covering around 440,000 square miles. Currently it boasts a population of about 42.3 million people(worldometers.info) of many mixed races, including numerous distinct subcultures. Around 75% of the population is mixed race with fifty-five percent being Mestizos (Intermarriage between whites and natives), sixteen percent being Mulattoes (Intermarriage between blacks and whites), and four percent Zambo (Intermarriage between blacks and Indians) The remaining twenty percent of the population consists of European, African, or Indian ancestry. Due to the Spanish invasion that began in 1499, there has been an enormous Spanish influence weaved into the Colombian culture (everyculture.com).
Other workers affected by the collapse of Argentina’s economy are following in Zanon’s footsteps by fighting capitalism and re-opening under worker control. Private schools, health clinics, shops and other factories all join the cooperative. As one Brukman worker puts it, “For us workers’ accounting is easy, I don’t know why it’s so hard for the bosses.” After years of living with the repercussion of Menem’s bad business decisions, more than 200 companies and thousands of jobs have been recovered following the economic storm.
This article written by a news agency that works for Spanish speaking countries is speaking about the oil situation in Mexico, it highlights some of the influence a certain transnational cotporation currently have. Currently Mexican Oil is controlled by Petroleos Mexicanos which is a transnational corporation, in the article you see that the author (unknown) writes that it controls an industry which is one of the pillars of the development of Mexico. The current issue at hand is that the growth of Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) is that is holds more than 13 billion USD in losses from the industry. The company holds a lot of power over Mexico’s economy and it could affect it negatively. It is a great example of how a transnational corporation could

Another important cause to Chiquita’s actions in this country is the employees. The company felt, as it was their duty to protect their employees. If it did not pay the AUC, the AUC would have attacked or even kill its employees, that work and lived in that region of Colombia. Chiquita thought if they didn’t protect their employees that the nation and other countries have heard these stories and begin to question them, on the value they have for their employees.
Another great turistic site is the “Museo Del Oro.” It is the museum were all the Colombian pre-colombine gold and clay objects of our Indians that were dug up. They have pieces of the Taironas, Muiscas, Quimbayas, Calimas, Tumacos, San Agustin, Tierradentro, and many more Colombian pre-colombine tribes. Near this museum, which is located in the center of the city, there is a cultural plaza were the “Museo Del Banco de La Republica,” “El Museo De Fernando Botero” and “La Casa De La Moneda” are located at. In the “Museo Del Banco del Banco De La Republica” there are most of all artistic expressions like sculptures and paintings. In “El Museo De Fernando Botero,” there isn’t much than paintings and sculptures, but what’s unique about this museum is that everything was donated by Fernando Botero, a Colombian artist which is famous for his “Fat” paintings. In this museum there are paintings made mostly by him and some other artists like Pablo Picasso. In “La Casa de la Moneda,” there are a bunch of old, beautiful Colombian bills and some paintings. These three museums are owned all by “El Banco De La Republica.”
