Puget prairies are a type of ecosystem that can only be found in small areas in the Puget lowlands as well as in some places in British Columbia. The Puget prairies were created by retreating glaciers thousands of years ago (South Puget Sound Prairies, 2016). The prairies were then maintained by Native American tribes from the surrounding area ("South Puget Sound Prairies," 2016). The Salish tribe systematically burned trees growing into the prairies to maintain the intricate ecosystem, a strategy the prairieland relies on ("The Role of Fire," 2016). Coastal Salish natives lived in the Thurston County prairies long before the arrival of white settlers in 1792. The Salish tribe has since split into the Nisqually, Squaxin, and Chehalis tribes
The tundra, which comes from the Finnish word, tunturi, which means treeless, is the coldest terrestrial biome known to biologists (University of California Museum of Paleontology). Located in the northern hemisphere, between 55° and 70° North, the Tundra covers about 20% of Earth’s surface (S). Although tundras can be found in many of the continents, most notably, the Northern Alaska, Canada and Greenland Tundra and the Scandinavian Montane Birch forest and grasslands stand out the most (Gardella). They are all large tourists attractions disply nature’s ability to thrive in the harshest environments. Winters in the tundra have an average temperature of -30° F, due to its high altitude. However, the average temperatures in the tundra during
The summers are warm and short. The winters are cold and long. Precipitation ranges from more than 500 mm per year in the north to less than 300 mm in the south of the Prairies. The winter mean temperatures for the coldest months vary from -9.4°C in Lethbridge and -18.3°C in Winnipeg. In contrast, the mean temperature for the warmest month in Winnipeg is 19.7°C. The grasses tend to have long roots which penetrate deep into the soil where they could find moisture. The northern edge of this ecozone marks the beginning of the transition into forest areas. Prior to agricultural settlement in the late 19th century, the Prairie ecozone was the home of millions of bison. Today, mammals of this ecozone include mule and white-tailed deer, coyote, pronghorn (south-central portion), badger, whitetail jackrabbit, Richardson's ground squirrel, northern pocket gopher and the prairie dog. Unique bird species include ferruginous hawk, greater prairie chicken, sharp-tailed grouse, American avocet, burrowing owl, great blue heron, black-billed magpie and Baltimore oriole. Plains grizzlies, swift fox and greater prairie chickens are a few of animals to disappear from the
As a gateway community to Texas Hill Country and Lake Travis, Lake Pointe is in an ideal location. Just 12 miles west of all the employers, entertainment, and cultural opportunities of downtown Austin, Lake Pointe is a carefully planned community that has just been built in the past 10 years or so. Developed near Highway 71 and Bee Cave Road, Lake Pointe is able to boast a great location as well as homes that are both more spacious and more affordable than many of the properties available within the city boundaries. Lake Pointe has always been popular with families who want plenty of space and clean, safe living while also enjoying all the amenities of Austin. Families also adore the fact that Lake Pointe is part of the prestigious Lake Travis School District.
There are many unique types of animals in the Blackland Prairie; here are a few examples of animals in the Blackland Prairie. One example of one of these animals is the nine-banded armadillo. The nine-banded armadillo is a large, short and brown armadillo with a long tail and nine lines on its shell (therefore its name). They typically eat grubs, insects, berries, and eggs. This scaly critter lives in most of Texas besides the west, they typically live in woods, brush, grasslands and forests. Another one of the many examples of animals in this diverse ecoregion is the black-tailed prairie dog. These chubby, stubby, brown, and furry balls of cuteness live along the border of Mexico. It lives in dry, flat, sparsely vegetated grasslands. These rodents like to consume things like plants, insects, seeds, and grasses. These items make up most of their diet. They are habitat modifiers just like beavers, they build burrows underground close to each other. These are called towns.

On any given afternoon at Parkway- Wabash park you will find little kids sliding down the slide, teenagers playing pick up on the basketball court, and men placing bets on card games. The familiar smell of a mixture of ribs grilling and weed smoke fills your nose as you hang out with friends from school and kids from around the neighborhood. Some white people, who are obviously lost, avert their gazes and walk-jog to get away from the “dangerous area”. Other white people, know exactly where they are and not-so-casually speed walk to the gas station to get a few grams of weed to smoke.
The Desert Southwest is a very interesting place for non natives. It is a very hot place it can get up to 140 degrees which is normal for the deseret but an night it's a different story it can lower to about 30 degrees that is 2 degrees lower than freezing point. As many people know, Arkansas is known as the “natural state”, making the Ozark Plateau a perfect representation of Arkansas for many reasons. Though some may believe the Ozark Plateau has nothing but small towns with little to do, it is my declaration that the Ozark Plateau is a safe area to raise a family with a rich history and lots of historic attractions, beautiful scenery, and many outdoor attractions and experiences.
Waipio valley: home of the steepest road in the United States as well as many of my most fond childhood memories. Every trip was one that I never wanted to end and was routinely similar until we were within range of the salty sea spray. It always started the same; I would be the first person awake in the house for the first time since the last Waipio valley trip, make pancakes and eggs for my mom who was always the next to awake. She would eventually take over cooking for me so I could annoy my father and sister enough to wake them up, I’d always knock on my sisters door before I ran in and jumped on her bed until she’d throw me off. My dad however wasn’t so lucky, since he’d always torment me when we were wrestling around I could only have
The Interior Plains is also one of the many geographic regions Canada has. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. It is about 1300 kilometres wide in the south and only 275 kilometres in the north. The Interior Plains cover some parts of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories and Yukon. The interior Plains of Canada is composed of rolling hills and large flat valleys. It is also composed of deep wide river valleys. What composed those rolling hills are the deposits left by the glaciers. In the southern parts of the Interior Plains soil can be found, perfect for growing wheat. Some parts of the Interior Plains also contain a vast amount of minerals, oils, natural gases, and potash.
My favorite holiday is Halloween! I like it because I get to go get my costume and I also like it because the Halloween store had millions of costumes covering every square inch of the store. I also love to go through the store trying masks on and taking funny pictures in them. While we're are in the to the Halloween store my brother and I are talking to each other and seeing what we're gonna wear while we're trick or treating, further on in the night we will go to a party and we will go get candy. My favorite part of Halloween if filling my stomach with all the food, goodies, and candy filling up my stomach. also this year we were planning to trick or treating at the gncc or more known as the
Today was another beautiful day in the Redwood National Park. The park is in Northern California, near the coast, and very close to the Oregon border. So, it was a little breezy but, it's summer so for the most part it was quite warm and sunny. As the park ranger walked us through the Redwood Forest the birds were chirping the air was clean and fresh, there were a few clouds in the sky. It was the perfect weather for a walk through the woods. Today, my family and I learned many interesting facts about Redwood National Park, while we took a short tour around the park with a park ranger. We learned, when the park was established and why, why this park is a national treasure, and why national parks are so important.
The tallgrass prairie has been reduced to less than one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of the original area that it used to cover. Because of the small percentage of remaining area of the tallgrass prairie, ecologists might feel that the tallgrass parries is the most endangered ecosystem. It is believed to have covered around 25 million acres in Minnesota and Iowa at one point, but now there is less than 300,000 acres scattered around Minnesota and Iowa. The remaining acres of tallgrass prairie is scattered in small areas that do not have much wildlife value. Since the area is so scattered, many animals that live in these tallgrass prairies are having troubles finding places to live because they don’t want to make their nest on the edge for fear
