Philosophy 12

Most people search their whole lives trying to define their purpose. We have a desire to feel purposeful. Audrey Hepburn eludes belonging and transcendence as her purpose belonging to help define her purpose. She fulfills her purpose by her acting career as well as contributions to UNICEF.
Audrey found a sense of belonging throughout her acting career. She was not born into the spot light however. ‘Born on May 4th, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium’ , Audrey suffered from a traumatic childhood. In 1935 Audrey’s parents divorced because her father was a Nazi sympathizer. Even after Audrey is older she still would say the divorce was the most traumatic incident of her life. Which is shocking

Not only did she have some valued relationships but many; which have lived on beyond her. Another purpose added to belonging is she left a legacy. Legacy was carried on from her establishment of relationships, with family, friends, and fans. Her legacy and fame helped her to obtain sociological. From her fame she lived a life of belonging filled with relationships of people who adored her. Fame lead her to find transcendence another purpose. Audrey always lived a life of empathy as seen in this reference, “Nothing is more important than empathy for another human being’s suffering. Nothing—not career, not wealth, not intelligence, certainly not status. We have to feel for one another if we’re going to survive with dignity” . Audrey saw as a young child people dying, and experiencing true suffering. From this she established a sense of what is important. Her views on life have a transcendent view. Coinciding with belonging she values relationships and others more than her personal status or gain. She not only emulated transcendence through her statements but her actions as well. Audrey showed transcendence by ‘visiting a polio vaccine project in Turkey, training programmes for women in Venezuela, projects for children living and working on the street in Ecuador, projects to provide drinking water in Guatemala and Honduras and radio literacy projects in El Salvador’ . Going to a forgien country to help others was something Audrey felt served a greta amount of
I plead with it to clear up before morning. I hate and despise it. I do not pray for sight. I pray for beauty.” Until Walker went under the knife she was filled with anguish and pain at her eye, but once its appearance was improved did her emotional and sociable out looks begin to change for the better. With that Walker is living proof that ones physical traits can have an adverse impact on ones self worth and perspective . It also proves that society's rule and views of "beauty" can affect a persons life and the way they interact with those around them. Walker eventually find peace with her eye when her child note that there is a world in it and that flawed eye became that more beautiful. and after a dream Alice walker accepted both her eye and her self worth “As I dance, whirling and joyous, happier than I’ve ever been in my life, another bright faced dancer joins me. We dance and kiss each other and hold each other through the night. The other dancer has obviously come through all right, as I have done. She is beautiful, whole, and free. She is also me.” She also realizes it is not beauty that brings happiness but the ability to accepted ones self no matter the
All in all, Maggie is a very distinctive character. Her house burning to the ground, her arrogant sister, and the effect society has on her explains that. Alice Walker has a very interesting way of putting together two opposites to make one of their personalities very clear; Maggie’s persona would be
It's a fundamental belief of mine that each one of us is brought upon this world with a major definite purpose in life. Everyone has a unique destiny for contributing to this world using their unique blend of talents and passions. I have no doubt that most people today work hard and stay busy with daily activities. The problem I've noticed is that many people live their lives without any sense of meaningful purpose that gives their lives passion and significance. They get caught up in the daily mechanical routines of life and they become creatures of habit rather than purpose-driven beings. Finding and shaping your major definite purpose is perhaps the most important thing that you will ever do in your life because your purpose is the driving force that spawns all the achievements that you will ever accomplish and it provides that unlimited source of motivation that drives you to achieve all the goals that you set for yourself and enables you to live life to the fullest.
One of Audrey’s life philosophies is: “If I can touch one person in life then my living is not in vain”. Her motto to success in life is “To Just Keep It
“If I’d observed all the rules I’d never have gone anywhere” Marilyn Monroe once famously said. Over the course of the legacy unit we have learned about various figures that have left behind their own legacies, good or bad. Then we were tasked with the job of choosing a single person and doing the research about them. This was so that later we could write a speech and paper on what we learned and apply the writing skills we had been working on. Marilyn Monroe stood out due to the fact that she was a good person who struggled with the darker parts of herself progressively as her life went on. Nevertheless, she still managed to achieve her dreams and inspire others to attain theirs as well.
As a young woman, Janie had no complaints about her role in society and fit in as most young people do. Eventually, Janie made it her purpose to outgrow this mold, defying her societal role and fulfilling her dream of becoming the assertive woman she always wanted to be. To
| The search for meaning and purpose in life is an important aspect of life. According to this psychologist, people are always striving to meet their needs.
As humans, it’s in our nature to look for the meaning in our lives. Our minds are very complex and allow us the gift but also the despair of contemplating our existence and purpose in this world. Nowadays, it’s common for us to go on journeys to find the purpose of one’s life and to discover themselves and find direction for their future. In the article “Authentic purpose: the spiritual infrastructure of life” by Corey L.M. Keyes, Keyes explores the reason on why finding a purpose has become so key to one’s health and the different ways that we find purpose in our lives.
Alice Ball’s life started as the ideal childhood. Her grandfather was a success photographer and her dad was a aspiring lawyer. Then tragedy
Once one determines their purpose, one may achieve fulfilment through living a righteous life. Specifically, by determining ways to benefit and contributing society. Socrates touches on how righteous attributes are beneficial to not only to yourself but to the community as well. “Wealth does not bring about excellence, but excellence makes wealth and everything else good for men, both individually and collectively.” (Plato, n.d.). One may live a fulfilling life through mission work and focusing on the needs of the people around them.
During the war, the Nazi’s had invaded Audrey’s home town which made it a struggle to survive for her and her family. After the war, Audrey became the leading figure in the Dutch ballet. She pursued acting not long after her ballet career because she was told she had too poor nutrition to further continue ballet. She quickly became a star and started out performing in musical theatre.
A major influence on Alice's identity was when she was a young child and her grandmother would tell her stories about events that occurred in Cambodia. In Alice's teenage years, her beloved grandmother has a stroke, developed disabilities and eventually had passed away. It is around this time where serious psychological problems occur for Alice. This almost forces her into a mental state in which she knows she does not fit in with the Australian culture. She believed she had to do everything she could to change that otherwise Alice knew she would break down mentally. Alice was forced to attempt to fit the social standards of Australia.

Sometimes a person may feel that they have no purpose in life. Finding out who you are just takes the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in your life. Who am I? I am Mercedes Kimberly Kingston, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and identities. The many ways, in which I identify myself, in fact, are the ways that define who I am. My Identity is something only I can fully define. I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I have two loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which makes me a student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a wonderful best friend.
Edna, the protagonist in The Awakening, experiences this ongoing battle within herself. Besides this ongoing battle inside, she also has a tough time fitting into society and nature as well. In the following quote, Edna is referred to as Mrs. Ponteiller. “ Mrs. Ponteiller was not a woman given to confidences, a characteristic hitherto contrary to her nature” (Chopin, 1263). Edna starting at an exceedingly young age had been very beside herself. However, there are certain people who influenced her as she grew older. She sees women like Adele Ratignolle and Mademoiselle Reisz and wonders why she cannot be more like them as they fit into society without any problem. The “her”
