Now we all have heard of the term slavery and have some knowledge about what went on. However, many people don’t know the exact reason why Slavery took place. Some say, because Europeans at that time were just mean and cold-hearted. That is so, but it was other aspects for them to take hostage individuals and sell them across the world. Therefore, the purpose of Slavery in the United States was to gain power, wealth, and free labor.
Once the Portuguese heard of the gold centered around West Africa, they were eager to gain access to it. They established trading stations and built forts along the coast, and it was well protected from the rival European traders. Coming in contact with some of the African kingdoms, instead of fighting them they
The movie High Noon written by Carl Foreman and the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Rich Connell are both really good stories that contain a fairly different plot, but they also have some similarities. High Noon is about Will Kane, who is a Marshal in a town called Hadleyville. He is a brave character that doesn’t stand down. He recently got married to a Quaker, but conflict appears when Frank Miller, who is the man Kane sent to jail, is coming back to town. Also he has trouble swearing in deputies and has to fight Frank and his gang alone.
The establishment of slavery in America was used for the economy; it was used since the European settled the colonies in America. The main goal to bring slaves was for them to produce goods, and the source of slavery was from the African continent. This system was used first by Africans themselves, it had some differences like it was not based on skin color, it was not a permanent status and it was not heritage status. In Africa colonies used to capture weaker colonies and use the captured people and use them as indenture servants, meaning that eventually their status as servants or slaves would end. When slaves were brought to America their status was permanent and their status was based on skin color, so only people of black color would be slaves. As slavery developed the color of skin became important. Once they were captured and sell to the European they were consider property.
The Portuguese traded with Africa War weapons in order to get gold, ivory, and jewels. They later began getting slaves produced by inter-African warfare. At first the slave trade was controlled by Africans. These Africans were knows as the Bakongo whom welcomed the Portuguese and the
To begin, the reason why slavery began in the United States. When the Europeans first came to the Americas, they realized that the climate is different which allowed them to grow crops they couldn't back in Europe. These crops were called cash crops and were being sold in Europe but are grown in the Americas. Since Europe was in high demand for
In the history of the United States, it is known that slavery originated during the colonization of the New World. As more western territories were acquired from the Louisiana Purchase, people began to expand west as it was justified by the Manifest Destiny. With the availability and desire to colonize the new lands, slaves became more of a necessity especially in the Southern territories. As slavery sparked controversy between the Northern and Southern states, there was no solution to be found that satisfied the nation and was unable to prevent secession of states. The establishment of slavery brought unforeseen consequences and can be argued as the principle cause of the Civil War.
Even before Europeans came to Africa, the kingdoms in Africa were quite wealthy. As previously mentioned, Ghana was a very strong kingdom in which its people were also incredibly wealthy. Their government appeared to be wealthy as well, which assisted Ghana in being able to control the gold and salt trade. An Arab scholar, Al-Bakri, wrote about the king’s court and how basically everything that the court had was gold (Document 2). The point of view of this document was also positive, and that is because scholars are usually upper class, just like the king’s court. Al-Bakri thought very highly of the court, and explains in detail how every person has some gold on them and how their surroundings also possessed gold. Ghana had a strong army and an intelligent political counsel, which made other countries fear them. Nations around Ghana did not want to start problems and usually just maintained peace with Ghana (Document 3). Ghana was not the only successful kingdom, one of the leaders of Mali, Mansa Musa,
Farming, sewing, and taking care of livestock were just a few responsibilities that were left to slaves during the 1600 's. White families received all of the benefits from the work done, yet they rarely had to lift a finger, unless it was to correct a slave. Today 's generation reads about slavery and regards it as morally wrong. While I agree that slavery was one of America 's greatest wrongdoings, it paved the way for America as we know it today.
All in all, the reasons for slavery is to get the slaves to do all of the hard work. Some hard work that they did was farmed crops and picked cotton for clothes for people to wear. They also cooked and cleaned for their owners. Another thing they did was if they tried to escape they would be killed. These are great reasons why slaves did what they had to do.
Both “Raising Voices for Cecil the Lion” by National Public Radio author Barbara J. King and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies have an underlying theme of how society works and comes together to deal with a threat or problem. They both show that people do tend to unite on sides of an issue.
Through the years following Fiona’s birth, Jackie suffered with depression and anxiety. The stress of having a difficult baby was quickly remedied by prescription pain medication, subsequently causing Jackie’s dependence on thesubstance. Jackie has kept her addiction a secret from her family and friends, demonstrating both trust and a poor self-image. As part of this therapeutic intervention, I advised Jackie that she would be free from judgment within our therapeutic relationship. Jackie was also advised that she could speak freely about her feelings of being a mother and provider, verbalizing the stressors she associated with her roles. Initially, Jackie was opposed to entering a 28-day treatment program as part
The work of the Portuguese in Africa was far from complete. They continued setting up trading stations spanning across the west coast of Africa, still with the intention of finding gold.
The initial view of the white population that African Americans were inferior to them quickly led to slavery, but there was a definite second motivator. Slavery provided cheap labor to the white elite; this provided the means to improve their own socioeconomic standing while effectively eliminating any possible economic competition from blacks.

“The fact is, that civilization requires slaves. The Greeks were quite right there. Unless there are slaves to do the ugly, horrible, uninteresting work, culture and contemplation become almost impossible.” - OSCAR WILDE, The Soul of Man Under Socialism
What was the purpose of slavery from the earliest colonial times until 1865? Well, as we all know, slavery existed in the United States during the early colonial times. While this was going on you had millions of women, men, including children who were being stripped or should I say disproved mostly from all their basic rights. Once they became slaves, they automatically had given up their rights to have freedom nor did they have the right to obtain any kind of power.
