For many years, I have been interested in studying pediatrics. My interest in pursuing this field stems from several factors which have affected me. First, when I was 11 years old my father was really sick, the doctors said that he did not have as much time to live. Days passed and I saw that every day my dad became sicker, I was really sad to see him sitting there unable to do anything. The doctors detected cancer in the pancreas, they couldn't do anything because the cancer was very advanced. Days, weeks, and even months passed and my dad became sicker, my family couldn't do anything just take care of him and give him everything that he needed. He could no longer eat or drink because every time he threw a mouthful at the mouth he would throw
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” As a child, we have all been asked this question; and as unrealistic children, we all had dreams of being a superhero, princess, cowboy, or astronaut. Later on in life, as time went by, and as we became more knowledgeable, our answers became more serious. Some of us wanted to be teachers, business owners, or a veterinarian. However, I have always wanted to be a doctor, but not just any doctor. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a pediatrician. Now, half way through my junior year in high school, I have started to question the details of this career, and all the hard work it takes to become a part of the medical field.
Starting at a young age, it has been my heart’s desire to help and care for people. Due to this strong urge I find a career in the medical field most appealing. More specifically, I would like to enter the field of pediatrics because of an overwhelming want and need to
This semester I began my minor Pediatric Clinical research. One of the guest lecturers who came in was Dr. Edward Clark, Chair of Department of Pediatrics and Medical Director at Primary Children’s Hospital. I learned an incredible amount from his lecture on the importance and complexities of caring for patients. Dr. Clark shared a French proverb that resonated with me: "guérir quelquefois, soulager souvent, consoler toujours" or in English, to "cure occasionally, relieve often, console always". Most importantly, helping as a nurse is putting others before yourself. These are four principles that I believe are crucial to helping as a nurse.
It is my wish to study Medicine as this is a career which would best allow me to explore my interests in becoming a paediatrician, so that I may gain the opportunity to help those who have yet to experience the joys of life. Although I have always had an interest in pursuing a career in medicine, a notable shift occurred during a Leukaemia scare, which caused my younger brother s platelet count to drop well below acceptable levels and we were told that there was a very high likelihood of the cause being cancer. Although after three days in a hospital it was discovered that my brother instead had contracted a rare tropical disease, the memory of the kindness, wisdom and care presented towards my brother by the paediatricians is something that
Countless high school students aspire to become neurologists or surgeons, but tend to disregard the incredibly rewarding and memorable experiences that Pediatrics presents. Pediatrics focuses on solving issues that pertain to children, and attempt to solve these problems using critical thinking developed over decades of training and education. For those who wish to follow the medical route and make an impression on the younger generations, pediatrics is a wise, fulfilling life choice.
It was a pleasure meeting you and other members of the internship selection committee. I appreciated the time and effort that was spent in order to become more familiar with my application.
The career that I chose is Pediatrician, which it primarily deals with the physical, emotional, and social health of children from birth to young adulthood. This paper will explain the history, requirements, outlook, and the career path of a pediatrician.
According to Random (Stochastic) Variability, there are two measures of variability which impact capacity and utilization, arrival and service times. In the case of the Pediatric Clinic, variability in arrival and service times are present. The front desk which includes both the registration desk and verification of documents tries to reduce variability through the use of scheduled appointments. However, there is variability in the service times for both these activities since it handles diverse types of patients, new and follow up. With each patient type requiring separate distinct steps to register and verify the patient, it introduces variability in the service times thus impacting capacity. The variability could be controlled or minimized
Did you know that there are 33 different kinds of pediatricians (agcpediatrics.com)? I have always been a caring person, who tries to help any one that was in need. So, as I got older the only thing that I could picture myself doing is becoming a nurse. Once I got into high school I knew for sure that nursing was the career for me. In high school, I took nursing classes which allowed me to do internship with the hospitals and shadow nurses at a local pediatric office. I spent most of my time at the pediatric office, causing me to want to become a pediatric nurse.
Becoming a pediatric surgeon doesn’t just happen overnight. To become one, you need to go to medical school, and need a bachelor’s degree to go to medical school (BLS).Many years of school are needed before you can even step foot into a hospital. Once a bachelors degree is equipped, you can apply for medical school. Medical school isn’t all in a classroom. Four years of medical school are needed (healthychildren.org). Two of those years are in a classroom, the other two in hospitals, watching surgeries and observing different cases (learningpath.org). Still, more schooling is needed. Every doctor has to go through residency. Residency takes place in an actual hospital, where you learn from surgeons. To become a pediatric surgeon, you need
I am working on developing Behavioral health Web Series for Pediatricians. I collaborate on this with all of you.
I’ve always enjoyed being around kids and wanting to help them in any way I possibly could. Taking care of a child younger than me has always caught my eye and made me really think about what I wanted to do when I grew up. That’s why I would like to be as successful as I can in my career path and get the best education I can at college to fulfill my personal goal. My number one goal to do during college is to get the right education and training I need to become a pediatric doctor so I can pursue a career in what I love. At the end of the day I just want to have that heart warming feeling when I know I helped the kids and relieved them of their pain or whatever was wrong. The idea of seeing little kids with a cold or some sort of illness has
The career I choice is a Pediatrician. I choice to be Pediatrician because I love kids and baby’s and I want to help them any change I can get. The best part I love about this job is I get to see children’s every day. Also I love that I get 90 dollar’s per hours. If I have kids this type of money will help me a lot.
It became evident when each morning I woke up eager to help put my young patients and their loved ones at ease. Their contagious smiles and high spirits motivated and reminded me why I chose medicine in the first place. During my clinical education, I was drawn to the variety in patient age, the degree of illnesses, and the uplifting, positive atmosphere found in pediatric medicine. I especially enjoy the challenge of explaining pathology to kids and their families. Pediatricians have the unique opportunity to care for a person from birth and inspire change before bad habits leave permanent scars.
