Pursuing The Nursing Profession

A career in the field of nursing has a wide variety of different positions and is worth the hard work a person puts into it. Nursing is a great career choice option. It’s a career that allows you to help save people’s lives, bring cheer, and comfort to those in need.

My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will care for all patients holistically. I will allow the patient to participate and input ideas into his or her care. I will allow patients to incorporate some of their experiences from their personal lives, and alter my care based on those experiences. I will see the patient as a unique human being and treat all patients with respect and dignity. I will encompass the values that I embrace in everything I do. I will be accountable for my actions and practice within the scope of my license.

There is an endless amount of possibilities an individual can go with a career in nursing. Nursing has plenty of specialties to choose from and nursing work is widely available throughout the world. It is personally rewarding and emotional to have an interactive relationship with the patients. This career allows nurses to get on a more personal level with the patients and provide comfort and bed care. Most importantly we can make a difference in patient's lives by bringing hope. This course is something that will be very important for my career as a Registered Nurse. I plan to try my hardest and do my very best in this course. By the end of the course I expect to be able to properly communicate using medical terminology. The only experience I have with medical terminology is an anatomy class I took in high school. I retained the information well and I still remember most of the words I learned in that class, because I knew they would be important to know later on.

In May of 2015, I completed my nursing degree from the accredited nursing program at Carteret Community College with an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing. My dedication and hard work to my studies can be seen through my three year membership in the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. As a new graduate in the nursing field, my objective is to grow and engage in the knowledge and expertise of my chosen profession. In the fall of 2017 I plan to attend Grace College and major in nursing and graduate with a bachelor's degree. name is Linda Herron and I prefer Linda. I live in Delmar, NY and have been working as a nurse for 24 years. My career began on a medical surgical/telemetry floor, but I have also worked in home care, a skilled nursing facility and at home specializing in workers’ compensation cases. Currently, I work for an insurance company as a telephonic case manager and was recently promoted to a supervisory role. At this time, I am unsure what my professional interests are. My hope is that pursuing my bachelor’s degree, will broaden my interests and help me discover opportunities to further my career.

Since I was in grade school I always had a dream of going to college and becoming a doctor. I pushed myself to maintain an “A average” and continued to be involved in sports and school activities. Both my personal and professional lifetime goals in life are to provide and offer true love and compassion for humanity. Nursing is more than just simply a career. Nursing is a calling from a higher power. I chose to be a nurse for several different reasons. My uncle was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in (date). The care and compassion shown to my uncle put nursing in another perspective for me. The feelings of care and comfort my family received during this tragic time had a strong impact on my decision to become a nurse. I decided that I wanted to make the lives of sick individuals, as well as their families, less stressful. I decided that I wanted to become a nurse.

Caring for others has always been a passion of mine, and becoming a nurse has always been my dream. While my dream has turned reality, I can say that nursing has blessed me with the opportunity to not only be a servant to those in my community, but it has also allowed me to be of some comfort to patients and their loved ones during their darkest and most vulnerable moments. Nursing offers a variety of opportunities, where the only restrictions are the ones we set for ourselves. My interest and fascination in nursing dates back to when I was in the hospital for my grandparents. Despite the fact that I was there as a supportive family member, I found myself watching the nurses in action, assisting both the patient and my family. This was the first time I realized that I wanted to be a nurse, the person who was so dedicated in caring for my grandparents. Ever since that moment in the hospital, I knew nursing would be the career meant for me.
