The Criminal Justice System is a set of legal and social institutions used to enforce a defined set of rules limitations (3). This system in the United States is divided into three subsections: Federal, State, and Military. Each state's criminal justice department is then divided again into separate juvenile and adult systems (3). The system begins when the crime is committed and observed which leads to an investigation and arrest here the accused enters the system. The first step is after the arrest is made the criminal is held in jail until they can go to Criminal court, this usually happens within twenty four hours of the arrest unless it’s a weekend. In that case the trial will be held on Monday. While the prisoner is waiting for trial they get brought to central booking where their fingerprints and photograph are taken. At this time
The criminal justice system has been proven to play a very important role in society. The criminal justice system is used to keep the citizens in check and to make sure that the laws that are made are being followed. It also is there to penalize anyone who disobeys the laws. In the criminal justice system, there are 3 main parts, law enforcement, adjudication, and corrections. Law enforcement is self-explainable. It consists of the law enforcers such as police officers and sheriffs. Adjudication is made up of people in the court house such as judges and lawyers. Corrections is made up of jailhouse matters such as prison officials. In these many components of the criminal justice system, there are all put in place to help correct people to do the right thing. There are punitive efforts and rehabilitative efforts. At time, the system may lean towards one category or more, which can be dangerous in terms of disciplinary action. The criminal justice system is more punitive than rehabilitative which makes the system ineffective.
The criminal justice system is composed of three parts – Police, Courts and Corrections – and all three work together to protect an individual’s rights and the rights of society to live without fear of being a victim of crime. According to merriam-webster.com, crime is defined as “an act that is forbidden or omission of a duty that is commanded by public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law.” When all the three parts work together, it makes the criminal justice system function like a well tuned machine.

Without having a criminal justice system there would be no order. Being in the law enforcement field, if it's being a police officer, probation officer, or even a correctional officer it is essential that everyone communicates with everyone. By colloaborating with each other it ensures that everyone is on the same page when it comes to things. Working together this way helps to create the same justice that we have for our victims but in our communities as well. In order for the criminal justice system to function effectively all three components of the criminal justice system is an essential part.
Skills Required (list at least five skills, three of which are specific skills in the field of criminal justice).
I want to study Criminology or Criminal Justice in college because I believe there are many individuals who enjoy causing others to suffer. Personally, I’ve witnessed great acts of brutality both in school and in my community. In addition, there is a general consensus that law enforcement does not help the community yet, I have observed that that law enforcement achieves great progress within the law by applying evidence and reasoning along with statements to discover the truth. To the masses, justice achieved through the law system is not enough as they want punishments to be more unforgiving. Finally, I feel that in order to have a sense of purpose in life I must be assisting others in ways most will
This paper will describe my understanding of the text and of the lectures provided in the class. Unlike most classes, where I understood only my view of the text, this class was geared so each student would understand each other’s view. 3 An organization is a collective that has some boundary and internal structure that engages in activities related to some complex set of goals. Members of organizations attempt to meet their psychological, ego and emotional needs within the organization. Criminal justice organizations are particularly unique compared to other public or private sector organizations because of the governmental granted authority. Management within these organizations can be defined as the process by
Coming into The University of Tampa as a freshman, I was absolutely set on declaring my major as criminology. I was beyond eager to learn about and explore the field of criminology and little did I know how passionate I would come to be about this discipline. Throughout the past four years, I have gained a vast amount of knowledge about the different areas of the criminal justice system and have had several life changing experiences- from police ride-alongs to prison trips- all of which shaped my preoccupation with criminology and the criminal justice field.
My interest in Criminal Justice is mainly looking into reasons people do crime or using it in a social context since I plan on being a counselor and I know the psychological effects of crime on people, but not the reason or the idea why people continue on with certain crimes even though they know that the outcome won’t come in their favor. I also would like to see the different kinds of relationships between the police and the community. I also seek the different types of stigma that people have of the police such as seeing them as oppressors or power hunger people. I also would like to see the various of way that the law is interpreted and used on a case by case bases.
Courses such as Intro to Criminal Justice, Theories of Correction, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Principles of Law Enforcement, Police-Community Relations, Theoretical and Practical Criminal Investigation, Criminal Evidence and Constitutional Law are some of the required course to obtain a Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Track, B.S.
The process of the Criminal Justice system works around flexibility and compassion to the individual attempting, far more than it used to, to refrain from formulating biased and impulsive judgment. All situations of the individual's case and background are taken into consideration and various programs exist to afford the individual the opportunity of reforming rather than being punished. Similarly, too, the more serious the crime, the greater the amount of facts are required in order to prove that the crime was actually committed. Preferring to exonerate rather than convict, justice and compassion are, nonetheless, combined with attention also placed on assuring the community maximum protection. Extreme punishment such as incarceration is also far less common than it was in eh past with various other programs and approaches used to supplement and replace the institutions of jail and prison
Of all the career paths in the Criminal Justice field, the one I hope to retire from would be the Crime Scene Investigations path. You don’t get into this career for the money; you get into it because it’s your passion. I knew this would be the field I would pursue ever since I was a young child and I’ve never envisioned myself pursuing anything else. Most people follow in their parents' footsteps and want to live up to their family name, but being placed in an orphanage and then adopted, I never really had anyone to look up to or anyone’s lead to follow. This path I have set, I have set by myself and with the grace of God, I am so close to reaching it.
This paper focuses on criminal justice jobs and duties. In this paper I will break down the different type of education, skills, and requirements you will need for three different types of job fields. I will also give annual salaries for the state I am located in which is Ohio. Criminal Justice is one of the biggest fields in the world besides the medical field. This is my field of choice because, I am interested in learning laws I don’t know. Also to help those who can’t help themselves due to jail, or them being deceased. This paper will also give two graphs that shows the educational requirements you need in order to succeed with
The criminal justice system forms vital part of America's democratic system of government as it helps preserve the peaceful and orderly functioning of society. It serves to balance the protection and security of the overall community and the preservation of the civil liberties and freedoms of individuals. It also provides justice both for criminals and victims of crimes by ensuring offenders are tried and prosecuted through a fair trial. This is important as one of the fundamental theories of America's criminal justice system is that one is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt ("U.S. Criminal Justice System", n.d.).
