Statement of Purpose
Program : PhD in Information Technology & Management
“Innovation, Positive Thinking, Persistence and Integrity” are the pillars on which I have built the foundations of my life. My ultimate goal is to pursue an academic career devoted to research and help shape the outlook of the world. Pursuing a PhD in Information Technology & Management at (an Ivy League) University is a logical step in that direction. A passion for knowledge was instilled in me by my parents, both graduates, early in my childhood. My determination and will to succeed in every endeavor ensured that I remained at the top of the class throughout high school. I was awarded the CBSE award by the Indian government for students

During the course of my study, I also undertook courses in Economics and Finance.
My personal drive and determination to succeed motivated me to start a company with a few of my fellow students, while I was still in college. The company, called XXXXXXX, specialized in web design and software management. Among our other innovations were a new web based email product and new software for web conferencing. The technology used by us provided reliability and extensibility. With seamless information exchange and object oriented design the web pages could be extended with ease. The confidence clients had in us was apparent when XXXXXX(one of our clients) offered us a 200,000 Rs/month project. It was then that I was able to develop my managerial and leadership skills. I also learned the art of negotiation and how to sell my product. My involvement in both the technical and managerial side fuelled an interest in the management of information systems. This enabled me to appreciate the interaction between these two fields. My experience at the company and the reading of several books like Robbins and Coulter’s “Management”, Martin’s “Managing Information Technology” and Brealey and Myers’s “Principles of Corporate Finance” convinced me that my future was in an academic career devoted to research.
As a first step towards achieving my goals I joined XXXXXXX in order to improve my mathematical and analytical skills.

Overall, I am hardworking, assertive and enthusiastic about ensuring that I achieve my goals and would like to progress further in order to become a computer scientist . I am looking forward for the challenges ahead during my time at the university- both socially and
Learning has always been my passion. When I was younger, I would spend hours pouring over dictionary pages, trying to decrypt the hidden messages of jumbled up symbols. I would take a book and invent stories to go along with the pictures. Nothing ever stopped me from trying to understand things. When I turned 4, my dad finally taught me to read. We would sit on the couch, me sounding out each word and my dad correcting me after each mispronunciation. The experience was enthralling. Ever since that moment, I have been passionate about learning. When given the opportunity to learn, I seize it. In this way, I identify most with the Scholarship aspect of the Nation Honors Society. Education has never been the means to gain a degree, but rather the means to expand my knowledge.

As we have learned throughout this course, the value of information technology has been one of the most influential aspects of conducting business. Information technology is used on a daily basis at all organizations, and it has grown exponentially throughout the course of history. Organizations purchase and implement information technology to gain a competitive edge over their competitors. This dates all the way back to the invention of the steam engine, in the mid-1800s, which allowed finished products to be mass transported by the railroad system. The companies and corporations that used the rail system gained a competitive advantage over smaller companies that used other modes for transporting their

Soon after pursuing my undergraduate in SASTRA University, I had landed a job at TATA Consultancy Services (TCS), an IT company which ranks among the ‘Big 4’ most valuable IT services brand worldwide. Initially, my first thought was I’d be working in a cubicle programing data in a computer, and barely talking to my coworkers. But I was wrong. To my pleasant surprise, none of my predictions came true. TCS was a modern, fast-paced service company providing services in different domain to top brands and have a vast knowledge on technology right from mainframe to cloud computing. As a software developer I started working for a British based Insurance firm (Scottish Widows).
Ever since I was a little girl my education has been something that I held very close to my heart. My family always explained education to me as something vital to a successful life and as something you couldn’t simply just do the bare minimum to get by. They always encouraged my learning and presented it in a fun, enjoyable way. To say the least, I took this lesson my family instilled in me very seriously. Because of this, I have spent the majority of my life doing the most I can and giving my best, hardest effort to become more knowledgeable about anything and everything around me.
I gained a better understanding of the financial system while working at Morgan Stanley, but more importantly, I discovered that I enjoyed working with companies and thinking about the business issues they face. I started in the Equity Capital Markets Group in New York, where I helped corporate clients navigate the equity issuance process. It was a high-volume desk, and I was quickly exposed to a wide variety of companies and business models—perfect for a newly minted liberal arts graduate. However, I soon found myself wanting to work with these companies on more than just equity

In the time it has taken me to complete the IT Management course of study at Webster University I have learned that there are additional tasks that I was previously unaware of in regard to the management of Information Technology. Although I work in the IT field, my adult education was anchored in the Psychology field where the use of IT assets is limited at best. Learning the importance and relevance of organizational behavior, finance, communication systems, project management, procurement, systems analysis, and communications security in regards to IT management was mostly new to me. I chose to write this essay to show the way each subject that was required for the IT Management degree affected my capstone project.
“No longer is IT just another tool the CEO might use to accomplish costs saving and operational ends. Today, information technology can help solve product problems, set new levels of service and create new distribution and communication channels.”
At the beginning of my computer information course I was presented with challenge of writing a research paper. We were given several topics to choose from and I chose the topic of careers in information technology. The focus will be on the computer support specialist, the database administrator, the network and computer systems administrator, the computer, office machine and automated teller technician, the programmer, the software engineer, the cryptographer, the computer trainer, and the desktop publisher. I will explore what each profession is, the duties, the work environment,
Management is one of the most important human activities and has critical impact on life, growth, development or destruction of an organisation. In an organisation, managers with any rank or status should understand their basic duties i.e. maintaining a sustainable conductive environment where people can fulfil their commitments and objectives through collaborative approach. (Akhtar, 2011) A manager is responsible to achieve the business’s goals, visions and objectives by planning, organising, leading and controlling. Dubrin (1994) stated that in every organisation each member of staff must plan, organise, make decisions, and control the resources they need to accomplish the results expected
