Qualitative Article Critique
The article titled “Lay representations of workplace stress: What do people really mean when they say they are stressed? by Gail Kinman and Fiona Jones, the research questions is what do people actually mean when they say they feel stress due to their jobs? and How people manage their stress? The researchers were wondering how people define the word stress due to past researches participants used to define the word stress with different meanings. For this reason, they conducted this study to find a better concept of the word stress.
The existing literature influence this research to be conduct due to the vague meaning that the word stress means. Also, how people when they hear the word stress and relate it with different meanings and causes. The word stress due to the lack of agreement that people have with the definition of stress

For this reason, I think for future research the sample should have the same number of employers and employees to make the sample be fairly distributed. I believe this way the researchers won’t have more opinions from one group of the participants than the other group. Furthermore, a new research should be done about the relationship of work stress and health. This is because some participants said that stress can be positive and negative. According to the article, the stress can be positive if its short term because it can make people to have a better performance at work. While stress can also be negative if it becomes long term because it can affect people’s health what won’t allow people to perform well at their workplaces and daily life activities. Everyone possess critical thinking skills but when it comes to criticize a journal article it can be difficult for the first time, one of the best ways to develop critical thinking and reading skills is to use some strategies when reading and evaluating a research study (Wood & Haber,1998). The following essay it is going to focus in a critique of a qualitative journal article by giving its strengths and weakness, critical appraisal it is going to be done with support from different references and frameworks relevant to a qualitative study.
The qualitative article being appraised is by Martin and Woods (2012) using the CASP tool qualitative framework (CASP 2013). These tools have been validated to ensure that studies can be assessed in a consistent way assessing the trustworthiness of the research article (Aveyard, 2014)
