Maya Angelou once said, “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people”. The Cambridge Dictionary defines a hero as, a person admired for bravery, great achievements, or good qualities. A hero is not a follower of people, does not sit around being lazy, and is not unwise about making decisions. There are three characteristics which I would use to analyze a hero; leadership, passion, and sage. First off, a hero has good leadership skills. Cambridge Dictionary defines leading as, to manage or control a group of people; to be the person who makes decisions that other people choose to follow or obey. Firstly, a good example of a hero in the Kansas State Legislature would be Tom Burroughs. He is a democrat …show more content…
Very easily, Burroughs could have lied and acted like he agreed with the constituent to try to earn that guy’s vote next election, when instead he was honest about what he believes. This also shows that Legislators are heroes. Secondly, Tim Cook is a good example of a leader. For example, twice a year he does an Apple Keynote where he advertises several products Apple is coming out with. Usually the one in the spring is about software updates and then in fall they have one about hardware updates. He uses these Keynotes to induce people into buying Apple products. Another example, is that when Tim Cook started working for Apple their stock was worth 287.95 billion dollars, and is now worth over 600 billion dollars. Another example, I would not have bought and iPhone 6s if I had not seen his live Keynote where he introduced the product. Thus, Tim Cook has made lots of money for Apple, by leading people to buy Apple products. Thirdly, Taylor Swift is a leader to many people of my generation. When, I was in Omaha we stayed at a hotel and there were a ton of girls and guys close to my age, all wearing Taylor Swift apparel, during the two days that she was in Omaha for a two …show more content…
Passion is also what necessitates people to love someone or something. The Cambridge Dictionary defines passion as, “a powerful emotion or its expression. the emotion of love, anger, or hate:” Firstly, basketball players have passion. I watch college basketball on television as much as I can and someone who really stands out to me is Carl Hall. I remember several accounts that he bump his chest, or shout a little bit, or do both at the same time, and sometimes slam a ball with an angry look on his face. Especially, one time during the Final Four game against Louisville, when Wichita State lost the lead they had and he just went in dunked the ball, and bumped his chest. Thus, Carl Hall played with passion against the Louisville Cardinals. He was hero in this game because he really helped make it a close game, even though the shockers lost by four points. Secondly, Brian Arnold is a great example of a hero who uses passion. For example, during an obstacle course known as “stage three” he let out a loud cry when he had just got done with an obstacle called the “Ultimate Cliffhanger”, before going on to the next obstacle. Thus, he later became the first American to ever beat that obstacle course. Thirdly, hate can be used as passion. For instance, I am in a chess tournament where I play my opponent twice and whoever wins at least one game, goes onto the next round. In this tournament a really

There are many interpretations of what describes a hero and the actions they take. Whether it's selfless individuals that protect others against harmful entities or powerful figures in costumes that depict moral greatness and power fantasies, everyone has their own vision of what constitutes a hero. Like many of our own thoughts and opinions, these visions often stem from the environment and upbringing of the people that have them. A fantastic example of this aspect of our thoughts is the way George Orwell described a hero. He views a hero as someone who will do whatever they can to change social systems that lack respect for human decency, even if they know it is impossible to create such change.
