K.S Brooks has said “Vengeance is one of life's great motivators.” this couldn’t be more true. I have just finished reading The Jefferson Key by Steve Berry. It’s amazing how different each motivation for each character is. Quentin Hale who is this rigid stolid character wants what seems like one thing, the jefferson cipher but, has a underlying motivation behind him that fuels his flames for his own personal holocaust ‘till the very end. Pauline Daniel who is this lost soul that may have found a way to fill her empty heart. Also, Clifford Knox who would do anything to stay with his family. This book is a Quentin Hale is a very complex, adroit persona who will not stand down until he gets what his family has been wanting since the period when Andrew Jackson was president. “Similar to a visit made in 1834 by Abner Hale, which also failed. But he intended to learn from his ancestors mistake, not repeat them.” ( Berry 86). No adversary will get in his way to his supposed “Greatness”. Quentin …show more content…
All in all meaning he is an important guy. Except as much as he loves and devoted his life to commonwealth he is selling them out to the head of the NIA. But he has his reasons, “ To see my children. To enjoy my grandchildren. I don't want to spend the rest of my days in a prison cell.” (Berry 145) There are many sides of Knox we see but this is outspoken, he is vulnerable and loves his children and wants to be there for them. He wants to meet his grandchildren , stay out of prison for them not for himself. He is searching for family and love and he wants it in any form. He will alienate from this group that gave him his place in the world for noone but his children and his grandchildren. There is much we can learn from him and much he still has to learn, but his heart is pure. His heart is pure enough to remember that life cannot be about destruction or vengeance but family , love and the support they will give
Describe how Pauline might have felt when she ran away from home. What thoughts would have been going through her mind?
His impulsive actions makes his character, not only revengeful, but also demonic. His goal in life was to take revenge on those who have victimized him.
One other example of vengeance is when McCarthy goes after Fred Fisher. He says that he is a communist and “has all the proof he needs” (Army-McCarthy, Paragraph. 1-3). These acts of vengeance was punishment for people that were wrongly accused just for their own retribution and
The journey of life often times does not always run the intended course that one envisions. Depending on the choices made and the uncontrollable circumstances that an individual is exposed to, his or her character will reflect those instances. In the non-fiction novel “In Cold Blood,” by Truman Capote, the reader is introduced to Perry Smith and Dick Hickock who without any remorse murdered the Clutter family. Is it simply human nature to commit gruesome acts without feeling a sense of guilt? There is no definitive answer to this, but it is however clear that human beings are capable of both good and evil, and there is usually a cause to every effect. It therefore leaves one to wonder what was the driving force or motive behind Dick and Perry’s
It would be while he was in prison for this crime that he would join the Nation of Islam. With the nation of Islam Malcolm X would find a new, or perhaps an old, focus in life: the white man. The next twelve years of his life would be devoted to righting the wrongs that the whites had dealt to the blacks throughout the history of the United States.
In the novels A Simple Plan by Scott Smith and The Crucible by Arthur Miller characters are dominated by their own self interest causing themselves and others around them misery. In A Simple Plan the protagonist, Hank, ruins his life and the lives of many close to him by carrying out many brutal acts of violence for the sake of acquiring wealth. Very soon after Hank discovers the fortune “I [he] wanted the money, I [he] realized, and I’d [he’d] do almost anything to keep it” (Smith 47), and eventually he does exactly that. Subsequently, Hank murders Mr. Pederson and rather than “a realization that what I [he] was doing was unequivocally wrong” (Smith 91), he felt nothing because in his mind he was doing it for something of unparalleled value.
The powerlessness of Pauline is one of the first things we see as a reader when we meet her. One of the main aspects of the powerlessness we see was that she “wasn’t much
Vengeance is the act of recovering justice by forcing the opposing individual to endure same punishment or exceed a far more harsh consequence than the victim. People often try to obtain revenge upon others for the wrong reasons due to fact that they believe the actions or sins of another person have affected the victim in a negative way. The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, uses the relentless character, Mr. Roger Chillingworth, to describe the result of being resentful and unforgiving to his wifes secret lover, Reverend Dimmesdale. The Scarlet Letter also vividly describes how Chillingworth became self absorbed with vengeance and how vengeance changes his physical appearance.
The word revenge is heard all over the news today. The news shows how people are trying to get revenge such as terrorist groups or individuals harming each other. However, even though the use of the word is frequent, not everyone has a clear understanding of what revenge clearly means. Revenge is defined as someone taking action to harm someone who has done something wrong to that certain person. Bryce Nelson the author of Revenge: Sweet, Universal and Self-Destructive: [Home Edition] stated: “As the victim contemplates revenge, he hopes desperately to overcome his feelings of impotence and to regain his former sense of self-worth” (Nelson 1). This article demonstrated how revenge was human nature by showing an example of someone getting revenge. The examples are demonstrated in definitions, characteristics, stories, and real-life events.

A hope for a better tomorrow perse, to continue the never ending fight like the endgame is tomorrow. This is what inspires others to have hope above all else, even if that means having a different idea of reality to have hope that things will be better than are. In the words of Nora Allen, “[L]ife is locomotion if you’re not moving you’re not living but there comes a time when you’ve got got to start running towards something, you’ve got to forge ahead keep moving even if your path isn’t lit trust that you will find your way” (2011). That’s what the interest of a criminalist is, to not to always take the litten route but take the difficult one to learn from
Revenge is the act of doing something to hurt someone because that person did something that hurt them. People have been getting revenge on others for thousands of years. People usually get revenge to regain power because when someone wrongs them they feel like power has been taken from them. Sometimes people like to go outside of the law to get revenge. This is because they feel like the law is not enough to give the person who wronged them the right amount of punishment for what they have done. “Daddy” by Sylvia Plath, “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston, and “Cask of the Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe all show the things they or their characters would do to get revenge on the person that wronged them and the different ways they did it.
