When producing a movie, there are multiple factors that have to come into play to achieve the intended message that the director and writer want to produce. Each little movement and framing is intentional to persuade the audience to enter into the world of the film to understand and feel the characters emotions and viewpoints about the situation that is being portrayed. This sentiment continues to stand true in the film, Pulp Fiction. There are multiple Bruce Blocks utilized by Quentin Tarantino to produce an effect that captivates the audience into seeing the film from the different characters points of view in each scene that is depicted. There are two visual components, line and shape, that I believe Tarantino used simultaneously, in more …show more content…
However, there are two scenes in which I believe that the use of line and shape were vital in drawing the audience’s attention to the action and story that was occurring in front of them. The first scene in which line and shape were used was one between Vincent and Butch. In this scene Butch had returned home to grab his watch and later found Vincent to be in his bathroom while he was in the kitchen cooking pop-tarts. Lines that were utilized in this scene were made by the appliances and furniture. The countertops and cabinets provide diagonal lines which help the audience to sense where the camera is wanting them to look. These lines also help to show a sense of depth to the room even though it is a small kitchen in a rundown apartment complex. Also, there are the lines that direct towards the hall that leads straight into the door frame used for the bathroom. These lines help to make a …show more content…
The use of lines in the hallway during this scene squares out most of the screen as well as the use of diagonal lines which added to the depth of the scene for the audience. The walls drew the majority of the audience’s attention in to look at these two characters during this time and to really focus on what they were doing and discussing. At the end of the scene, the audiences point of view is drawn to Vincent and Jewels to where they are standing between the rectangular doorway at the end of the hallway that has now become more narrowed to show directly onto the two and what they were doing. I believe that Tarantino did this intentionally to use shape and lines the draw the attention to the characters as if they were looking at a scope of a gun to set the audiences site on what was really going on. This scene shows contrast because this is the only view that the audience is seeing during this time adding intensity to the scene and causing the audience to imagine what is going to happen
The use of lines in Stone City is one of the key visual elements in this painting. The artist used many contour lines to define the boundaries between the trees and the valley, the river and the land, and even the long roads from the hills as it winds through the countryside. Wood also incorporated a lot of implied lines into his artwork. The trees and bushes that line the hills create a line of sight which draws the eye of the viewer to the house on the river, which is the focal point of this painting. The lines all move in different directions and help the artist highlight different aspects of the painting. Around the city and in the foreground of the painting the artist uses a lot of horizontal lines, which gives the town a calm sensation. As we move away from the city, we find a lot of vertical lines which denote growth. We also find a lot of diagonal lines which imply action in the painting. The diagonal lines are predominantly used by the artist in the creation of the roads and
The use of distinctively visual images allows an audience to perceive and distinguish the composer’s specific representation. From these distinctive visuals, the audience’s perceptions force them to respond in a particular way. In ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, Ang Lee utilises a range of film techniques to position his audience through a combination of quiet, dramatic scenes and choreographed action sequences. In his painting, ‘Third of May, 1808’ Fransisco Goya conveys meaning exclusively with distinctively visual techniques. Both the composers are able to effectively convey their message and
As indicated by the shape in the foreground, the lines that signify the contour of the rocks and freestanding structure merge. The lines lead the eye vertically as it meets the center. When looking at the painting as a whole, the viewer can see how the artist uses straight
When one observes a painting or drawing, the lines direct the eyes attention and dictate the piece. Line is applied in nearly every aspect of art, whether is an actual mark on a piece of paper or if it is implied in the work. Horizontal, vertical, angular, curving and diagonal. are all descriptive characteristics of line. In The Maundy Thursday Festival before the Ducal Palace in Venice, by Canaletto, the line work that was chosen guides the audience’s eye in the direction intended by the artist and was beneficial in providing boundaries. The diagonal lines help to elicit the viewer's attention from the foreground to the steeple and palace in the background. The disarrayed foreground is balanced by the use of strong vertical lines, making
The lighting created a contrast between the characters, the actor’s position added drama and thriller, and finally the boundaries between with in the characters had illustrated entrapment as well as the proximity demonstrating the relationship between the character’s. Overall I enjoyed this movie it really did make me see the actual visual art of film it’s not always about the dialogue if not the way the movie is presented towards the audience it creates a connection to the director’s visual idea towards the
World War 1 had dramatically and tragically impacted soldiers due to the living conditions in trenches and the use of weaponry. Firstly Trench warfare’s was used to protect the soldiers from enemy, gunfire and grenades. The depth of the trenches was the key aspect of having a successful trench, as it would allow soldiers to be protected from enemy gunfire as they stood or moved about. Trench warfare occurred as a war tactic, where both sides dug deep trenches as a barrier against the enemy. The trenches massively affected soldiers as it caused a number of casualties on the battlefield and horrific diseases from health problems. Trenches were contaminated with rats and lice. Climate gave trenches unpleasant and terrible conditions. Charlie shows
The current return on sales ratio for the Department & Discount Retail Industry is 4.96%. The Department & Discount Retail also currently has a return on sales sector ratio of 9.26%. Both JcPenney and Target fell into the negatives for this ratio at the end of 2014. JcPenney credits the low ratio from the bad sales they had in 2014. A few of JcPenney’s goals are to boost sales in 2015 and close underperforming stores. Target credits the negative return on sales ratio in 2014 to stopping its operation out of Canada and the massive data breach that they had at the end of 2013. To get JcPenney and Target back to positive return on sales ratios they need to generate more sales while cutting costs. I think both stores are on track to fixing their
Lines are paths or marks left by moving points and they can be outlines or edges of shapes and forms. Lines have qualities which can help communicate ideas and feelings such as straight or curved, thick or thin, dark or light, and continuous or broken. Implied lines suggest motion or organize an artwork and they are not actually seen, but they are present in the way edges of shapes are lined up.
Although the use of line and light is not as defined as the color scheme, they still play an important role in the overall organization of the painting. Gauguin uses curvilinear lines throughout this work with no right angles or sharp points. The outlines in the background are fairly blurry and some of the lines blend into one another. In contrast, the characters in the foreground are comprised of precise, sharp lines. Gauguin goes as far as lightly outlining the bodies with a dark line in order to give them a sense of depth. Light also serves to enhance certain aspects of the painting. Gauguin has been careful in his use of light to create some areas of brightness and some of darkness. The central figure glows in the bright light, which shines down on her from above. This light shows the importance of the decision of whether to pick the fruit or not. It is focused so directly on one area and is void in the others.
Pulp Fiction is a black comedy crime film written and directed Quentin Tarantino (1994). The film’s “narrative follows the unpredictable actions and reflections of two hit men who philosophically meditate out loud about the Bible, loyalty, and McDonald’s hamburgers” (Corrigan, White, 368). The movie goes against the three-act structure of classic films as the story is told out of chronological order making the film so memorable to its viewers. Tarantino’s film begins in a coffee shop and also ends in the same shop. In the beginning of the film, it appears to be a soft, moist, shapeless matter of mass but as the movie progresses the audience can take away much more from the mundane acts they view on screen. The film’s odd narrative
The use of line in this piece is also very interesting. The artist employs a high horizontal line to create a plunging effect giving the piece more depth. Another use of lines in the image is to create focal points to attract the viewer. Lines are also used to separate the different sections of the painting. Overall this painting uses lines in dynamic ways that vastly enhance the viewers’ pleasure and admiration of the piece.
The picture to the left is an example of using lines to lead the viewers eye. The actual line in the center of the page directs the eye up the picture to the mountains. The
To start the analysis, line is what is going to be observed first. The lines are shown to be softer and less crisp along the clothing and faces, but becomes much sharper with things that need more definition such as the tiles on the floor beside the woman and child and the wood planks that the, what seems to be store clerk, is standing on. The faces of the people in this scene also contain contour lines, seeing how contour lines are the lines
I’ve found many organizations that could help me in on professional development, professional organizations, and finding a mentor. The one that stood out to me was the ICF( International Coaching Federation). The ICF is an organization who’s purpose is to advance the art, science and practice of professional coaching. The ICF has independent certifications and a large network of coaches. Being involved in the organization would allow coaches to develop coaching skills, establish a professional standard, and network. It also includes discounts on events, staff support, and continuing coaching education. To join there is a $245 fee that is billed annually, as well as a Membership Eligibility Requirements. Having a mentor can be a very useful
Line is used in every artwork ever painted. There are many lines in the tree, people, and mountain. The mountain has very curvy line just like the tree does. Lines are also used to separate where the farm ends and where the mountain begins. The lines also help give depth into the artwork where is separates the mountain and
