Health care industry is a huge growing industry, the percentage of people aging in America is increasing, According to The New York Times In 2010, there were 40 million people age 65 and over in the United States, accounting for 13 percent of the total population. The older population in 2030 is projected to be twice as large as in 2000, growing from 35 million to 72 million and representing nearly 20 percent of the total U.S. population. The demand for medical care is expected to increase in the near future, so in order to meet this demand there is need for more people to enter into the field of healthcare. But, the number of people applying to health professional schools is decreasing due to a number of reasons- 1) Increasing cost of education- The tuition fees and cost of education is increasing making it difficult for middle class and poor people to get into the healthcare field. According to a survey over the past 20 years, public medical school tuitions have increased by 312 percent. 2) Continuous and life-long learning- Unlike other professions in healthcare field one has to keep in pace with the updates going on, know the new technology,
As the healthcare system prepares to select a outsource company as its vendor for this project, what types of information should it give to and gather from each vendor under consideration?
Healthcare and healthcare planning are vital in today’s ever-changing world, without education and experience one cannot help patients or make policy changes that benefit all stakeholders. In addition, many people do not understand the ever-changing medical policies and treatment options that are available. Therefore, I am compelled to use my knowledge and education to coordinate healthcare needs of the people in my community. Whether this is managing outpatient care, inpatient care needs or healthcare resources. Therefore, the Marylhurst Healthcare MBA program and all three concentrations will enable me to obtain the skills I need to succeed.
1. A summary of your understanding of health care business analyses. In your own words, why is it important? What does it entail?
Universities stemmed some of the biggest medical advances in the health care industry amongst the world. The educational platform for the United States spells long term success for health care, by growing the next generation of top health care providers. In comparison Germany and Canada also are represented amongst the top 50 medical schools in the world, but lack any representation of the top 10 prestige rankings. On top of that, both other countries lack volume and opportunity to receive a valued medical education when compared to the United States.
Costs have escalated for a host of reasons. Americans’ health needs increased as their for example. Coverage grew to include catastrophic illnesses, not just common ailments. Ma added retiree health benefits. Medical techniques and technology became more sophisticate prescription drugs acquired an expanding role in disease management and illness preventio medical inflation had become a serious business issue; by some yardsticks, costs rose at a f decade than in the 1990s.
Each year, college tuition increases more and more, which makes getting a higher education almost impossible for some people. I believe I have become more cynical over the years of being in health care and going through this course has not helped that very much. I often think to myself “Why am I in a customer service oriented job?” The entitlement people expect is mind blowing. However, I also think that my perception of health care is growing positively because of the different class and subjects that have been touched on throughout this course. I have a better understanding of the process it takes to get a law passed in our government, how to outcomes, and how to design a facility floor plan. Health care is changing quickly with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the amount of patients with the ability to get medical care. The amount of providers was not increased to help handle to large increase in patients. Patients are struggling to make appointments in a timely fashion because of the increased volume of calls on the call centers or front office staff. Patients are waiting longer periods of time to get an appointment because of the increased volume of patients. Doctors have the ability to not be enrolled as a provider in health care plans and that limits the availability of doctors that are able to treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid.
Individuals who are given the opportunity to learn new skills, increase their abilities for specific accomplishments, and increase their overall knowledge in their field are more likely to remain with their employers. Therefore, many health care organizations realize that continuing education is not only a requirement for certification but also a method for attracting and retaining the best employees. Providing employees with a chance to polish their skills and learn new methods of providing the best care increases job satisfaction. It also makes employees more valuable as they are more able to provide the kind of care that patients expect and deserve. Employee competence is what makes health care what it is. Failing to provide adequate opportunities for continued education in the field will result in less overall care.
Advances in technology have led to increased health care cost. An MRI machine can be so advanced today that it can costs around $8,000 just to have an MRI. Although it is wonderful that we are making so many advances in medical technology, it comes with a price. Providers are also forced to increase their rates due to the rising of costs of well, everything. This means that Medicare/Medicaid must now pay providers more per visit. These costs continue to increase year after year. With the Affordable Care Act, providers had to increase cost by rather large amounts.
* Medicare and Medicaid spending (which comprises 26 percent of the federal budget) is expanding faster than the economic growth rate
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds; including physicians, pharmacists, and executive team.
The high cost of health services is caused by most hospitals charging high fees to their patients mostly because there is low number of qualified doctors. This is because most medical schools require one
The healthcare fields are not only interesting and diverse, they are extremely important to the well being of humanity. As a child, I always loved to create new things and solve difficult problems; whether I would be playing with Legos or creating small inventions to make life a little easier, it was always a fun hobby of mine. Therefore, in middle school when we started to learn more about, the human body I was fascinated because there was so much I did not know, and there were so many different conditions to be treated. In the healthcare field, that is the sole purpose as you are always looking for new ways to treat and help people. However, there are many ways this can be achieved; not all the workers in the healthcare field get the credit
People see hospitals as a place where one goes for healing and medical care, but hospitals are businesses that healthcare administrators have the responsibility of maintaining. Healthcare administrators’ responsibilities include many aspects related to patient care. Some of those aspects are social and public policy and the technical management of healthcare delivery in hospitals. Unfortunately, healthcare administrators are faced with many challenges as well. One of the growing challenges that healthcare administrators are facing is the shortage of healthcare professionals.
The present challenges for the healthcare industry are significant. With a population that is forever aging, escalating costs, and the unsure impact of the Affordable Care Act, healthcare providers are under tremendous pressure to meet the needs of their patients while maintaining or even reducing costs. One such organization feeling this pressure is BayCare which is a leading not-for-profit health care system that connects individuals and families to a wide range of services at 13 hospitals and hundreds of other convenient locations throughout the Tampa Bay and central Florida regions. Inpatient and outpatient services include acute care, primary care, imaging, laboratory, behavioral health, home care, and wellness. With over 3,100 practicing physicians and more than 58,500 surgeries performed annually, their budget for operating room supplies exceeds $80 million annually across all facilities. Morton Plant Hospital is faced with the challenge of reducing overall operating costs without sacrificing their high standards of patient care and safety. The hospital realized that surgical waste represented a huge opportunity to address. By providing visibility to information that was otherwise hidden, a case cart system would be able to track surgical materials issued, used, and returned; including between doctors, procedures, and locations. This could help the hospital to achieve a number of objectives including: guarantying that all material issued to the OR was accounted for
