Discuss the quote that Matt Brady uses at the prayer meeting (proverbs 12:29) “He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind.” What does this quote mean, how does it relate to the main themes of the movie, why is it such an important quote that is chosen as the title of the film.
The title, “Inherit the Wind” is an allusion to the book of proverbs 12:29, “He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise heart.” The allusion to this verse appeared several times throughout the play. The “old gospel” differs from Catholicism because in the old gospel, which takes place in the play, apostles, or people who follow jesus and spread his word, are preached. Catholicism is the faith, practice, and church order of the Roman Catholic church. The Old Gospel preserves the truth and accuracy of the Word of God.
The townspeople are afraid of such ideas as evolution because of how religious they are. They don 't want their children believing in evolution because they want them to believe what the Bible says by doing so, it would bend their religious beliefs. Darwin 's theory of evolution suggests humans ancestors are apes. Religious townspeople believe humans originated when the lord suggested “let there be light!” The lord responded with light and the evening and the morning were the first day.

Additionally compare this quote with your concept of official church teachings regarding heaven and hell. Religion is supposed to show you life after death and ease your pain when you are experiencing it.
