In the book ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar, one of the characters named Kate Barlow is the star of the flashbacks. She wants to teach kids and adults and to be by Sam We are nominating her for the Cuttlefish award, because she changes throughout the book just like a Cuttlefish changes color and texture. She started out as a nice school teacher and then gradually became an ambitious murderer and robber. This indicates that she has changed throughout the story. Kate Barlow wants to teach kids. In the beginning, Kate Barlow was a nice school teacher. Everyone loved her and she was nice to be around and to have by your side. One example is when she was with Sam. “Miss Katherine usually stayed in the schoolhouse, grading papers and such, while Sam worked
Susan's problems with her eighth grade students comes from her lack of confidence. She seems to feel like she needs to be a similar teacher as Mr. K, since he was so well liked by the students, when in reality I thinks she must find her own teaching style that suits and comforts her but also is comforting in relationship building with her new students.
“I'm hungry and i'd trade everything I have for a hamburger.”(47) Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is an exciting story about a character named Brian Robeson who is left in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but a hatchet and must survive until help comes. Hatchet supports my belief that hard work helps overcome obstacles.
Section 1: 1. a. Receptacle b. "Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget." (82-83) c. An object or space used to contain something.
Have you ever been in situation where your life was entirely based on your own actions, been stuck in life or death situation with little sanctuary? These questions revolve around the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Thirteen year old Brian is the sole survivor of a devastating plane crash in the middle of the canadian wilderness after the pilot had a heart attack. For a harsh 54 days, Brian pulls an amazing feat by living by himself with only his wits and very little knowledge on how to survive. Overall, one of the main reasons Brian lived through his trials and tribulations is by realizing the world around him and adjusting to suit the violent wilderness. Brian had several Aha moments throughout, all of them helping him realize that mistakes weren’t a affordable and helping him develop and adapt to the world around him.

“He dragged the last smoke from his raveling cigarette and then, with callused thumb and forefinger, crushed out the glowing end.” (11) The narrator describes Tom’s actions in chapter 2. This is during the first time the reader meets Tom. The seemingly unimportant action of smoking is actually a symbol.
C3: a quote that stands out to me in chapter 2 is, “I become faint, and all at once I cannot do any more. I won't revile any more, it is senseless, I could drop down and never rise up again (38). This quote stands out to me because it emphasizes Paul Bäumers strong feelings of sorrow. Paul lies next to Kemmerich to try to comfort him as he is in his death throes, as the night goes on he ignores him and eventually dies. This quote is significant because it shows Paul’s feelings for his friend and how upset he is that a young nineteen who didn't even really start their life yet just had to go into war and now his life is over. Paul also grew up with kemmerich so he knew him for a while.
As I read 13 Hours, I wonder why people would consider doing something this cruel and inhumane let alone actually do the action. You wrote this book to inform us of the tragic events that happened on September 11, 2012. Writing to you, Mitchell Zuckoff, will help me understand the motives behind the attacks and further understand the causes of this tragic event. Reading 13 Hours changed me and helped realize all the bad in the world. I can also see good will always overpower evil.

Furthermore, the excessive pride exhibited by Macbeth at the end of the play highlights the psychological annihilation caused by toxic masculinity; leading to his eventual death. He conforms to the traits viewed as traditionally male since he becomes violent and excessively prideful of his masculinity and strength, and, consequently, reaches his demise. The unwavering pride that he possesses is evident when he refuses to acknowledge Malcom’s right to the throne of Scotland and states, “I will not yield, / to kiss the ground before young Malcolm’s feet” (5.8, 81). The use of the words “I will not yield” exemplify Macbeth’s need for dominance because subordination correlates with being weak. Also, the act of kneeling and kissing the ground

Recent studies show that an estimated 6,775 people die a day in the U.S. and 3,952,841 babies being born annually. The population increasing so rapidly and increasing by 30% in less than 30 years makes resource’s slowly become limited, with a limit on food, water and the basic necessities needed in life it becomes one of the most limiting factors on population growth. Poverty countries have the highest rate of population growth due to human trafficking and lack of medical facilities. Some might agree that having more kid’s means a decline in money in the household but for these poverty countries such as Africa and Asia this is just the quickest way to get money from the wealthy. By trading or selling the children to work against their will
For many decades, Nuclear Power Plants have become a growing argument between the educated and uneducated. Some have grown towards the growth of these plants for their technological innovations and environmental benefits. Others have walked away from the deal, repeatedly exclaiming the risks and money that builds up over time. Though these problems remain open for everyone to see, those arguments are outdated and overstated. In addition, there are far more positives than the eyes can see, the negatives, however, are an eyesore. Nuclear power plants will benefit towns for the strict safety standards, the pricing of a nuclear power plant, promotional factors, and land requirements.
Edna and Kate were both influenced by smart independent women. Kate got influenced by her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Kate’s older women in life influenced her because they taught her how to live without a man. They were all widows and had to take control over businesses and family. Kate had to do the same exact thing when Oscar, her husband, passed away.
