The 1st Lesson (pgs. 32-50) The Person: The Blue man The Setting: The Pier The Lesson: Everything that happens in this world is interconnected, there is no such thing as random acts. Two Quotes from this section that I enjoyed (with explanations why): 1. "Death doesn’t just take someone it misses someone else”. Gave me a whole new perspective on death 2. "No life is a waste. The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone." You’re never alone even if you feel you are. Your life impacts everybody around you positively or negatively Two Literary Elements that I found in this section (with explanations): 1.Point of View: Blue man shows Eddie his point of view from the day he died 2.First person narration: Blue man refers to …show more content…
The captain changed Eddie’s life by shooting him in the knee to save him from going into a burning tent but left him with tons of problems in his knee that would prevent him from doing many things in the future. The 3rd Lesson (pgs. 98-144) The Person: Ruby The Setting: Hospital The Lesson (theme) (in one sentence, in my own words): Two Quotes from this section that I enjoyed (with explanations why): 1. “You have peace when you make it with yourself" It’s a good way to look at things. 2. Two Literary Elements: 1. Imagery: Her face was gaunt, with sagging cheeks, rose-colored lipstick, and tightly pulled back white hair. 2. Antagonist: Eddie’s Father while drunk yells at and to get a job and even tries to hit him Pick two of the three questions below to answer about this part of the story: 1. Eddie did not have a good relationship with his father. It seems abusive considering his father tried to punch him. He also yells at Eddie and tells him to get a job. 3. I believe its saying the relationship between a parent and their child is very delicate like glass. It can be damaged easily, when Albom writes “the final handprint on Eddie’s glass” it means the relationship Eddie had with his father was over, his father never spoke to Eddie
His father on the other hand came from a gang background, and his goal as a father was to have his children learn how to rely on themselves. He did not want his children to live off of his money. Eddie is a mix of his mom’s personality with his dad’s values and character.
Eddie’s father influenced Eddie to be the chaperone in the family despite his age. At an early age he felt as though he had a financial responsibility, which influenced him to get a job as both a shoe-shiner and a paperboy. He describes his family’s structure as the father being the head of the family, and the mother as the heart. This helped create a balance within the family, but caused tension between Eddie and his father’s expectations. Eddie experienced two spheres of education, American school and Chinese school. “I loved going to American school, but Chinese school was another matter.” (Yung 25) He disliked the limited exposure of Chinese education, and felt that he had been exposed to a wider world in American school, which eventually led him to flunk out of school. This came as a disappointment to Eddie’s father, and added immense pressure to Eddie. The confinement he felt in Chinatown frustrated him, his overprotective mother crippled his adventurous-ambition and the pressure added by his father to lead the family caused him to runaway when at the age of 13. He
3. “I was afraid that by observing objects with my eyes and trying to comprehend them with each of my other senses I might blind my soul altogether.” 4. “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.” 5.
Eddie’s Father - Eddie’s father was essential to move the plot along because he made a big impact on Eddie’s life. Eddie’s father
Ex. 3 “You can’t resolve conflict by ignoring people. You need to learn those social skills in order to be successful in life.”
Upon hearing this Eddie feels awful and asks why the blue man died instead of Eddie. The blue man assures him that it was okay and that everything happens for a reason. “There are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind” (Albom, 48). This was the first lesson for Eddie. That everything happens for a reason and that no life is a waste. “No life is a waste, the only time we waste is the time we spend thinking that we are alone.” (50)
Between those three, the least important was the one taught by the Blue Man. Although his lesson was very important it wasn’t the greatest of the three. All of the people who Eddie meets relate to his past in some way, even if he doesn’t know them. By talking to the Blue Man, Eddie learned that
If Eddie did something to affect blue man it would eventually affect the rest of the for people yet to teach him a lesson. During this blue man dies because of Eddie he said he got a heart attack after being scared from trying to avoid hitting Eddie as he ran onto the street as a little boy. This now leads one connection between Eddie and the blue man meaning that they are all connected due to their stories. But this one rather important because Eddie basically killed someone. But of course more lesson have yet to come and some even more emotional and severe.
Eddie is a wounded war veteran, who believes he has lived an uninspired life. He works at a seaside amusement park fixing broken rides. On his 83rd birthday, he is killed when he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. When he awakes in the afterlife, he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who are strangers. From childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life. The first person he meets is The Blue Man. The Blue Man informs Eddie that he is going to meet five people in heaven whose lives he has somehow affected. The Blue Man was a sideshow worker at Ruby Pier when Eddie was a child. He was killed as a result of Eddie running in the street

With Eddie being limitless on this drug he gains power over things and makes more money than he ever thought would be possible, which eventually conditions him into becoming even more dependent upon the drug.
The statement I believe the most is that life goes on. This statement resonates with me because I've had a lot of struggles with my life. I've moved several times, I've lost several friends and family members due to diseases, and tragic deaths. I've been bullied but that never stopped me from living. Our life doesn't just stop when things don't go as planned. Being born with hearing loss I understand how hard life gets and that it will be tough to get through, but it doesn't stop. Life goes on. This sentence resonates with me, but there were a lot that didn’t.
