Everyone has had a time in their life when they felt like they didn’t fit in. Some people notice that they don’t fit in and try to change themselves. Kathryn Otoshi shows this in the book, Zero. In Zero, the character, Zero feels like she is only a number with no value. In Zero, Zero tried to change herself to fit in with the other numbers in order to have value. In the book, Zero feels like she doesn’t fit in and has to change herself in order to fit in with the other numbers. In Zero, we learn that nobody needs to change themselves in order to fit in with others.
To begin, Otoshi uses repetition to show Zero’s desire to fit in. Zero always felt left out. For example, the numbers would line up and not let her join in. In Zero, it says, “‘She
In Marie Lu’s Legend, Day shows his true character when he faces tough obstacles and rigorous tasks throughout the novel. For example, Day’s valor/bravery shows when Day rushes into the hospital to find the cure for his family. This shows that without a care for his own well-being he is looking for what's best for the ones he cares about. This also shows that even though he knew the consequences he still decided to look for the greater good.

Elizabeth Lavenza is perceived as a weak and passive character by many people. This is because throughout the novel she is depicted as submissive and dependent on Victor. She is constantly putting Victor's wants and needs before her own. An example of this behavior is in Chapter 19 when Victor departs on his trip before their marriage. Elizabeth lets Victor go on this trip without protesting, even though it goes against what she wants.
As someone who can look at a blank paper for hours at a time and not have a single idea on what to say, drafting can be one of the most crucial steps in writing. It allows you to have many different ideas before setting your mind on one solid point. Drafting allows you to release all your ideas onto the paper, no matter how good or bad it is. It makes writing 7 pages of just pure nonsense, okay, giving yourself enough to work with later on when editing. It can also help you develop your ideas into more solid pieces, by taking specific parts and allowing you to elaborate on them. My Favorite quote from Anne Lamott’s Shitty First Drafts is “For me and most of the other writers I know, writing is not rapturous. In fact, the only way I can get
The Horizontal World Time Essay In the passage, “The Horizontal World” by Debra Marquart, describes the upper midwest states with the use of imagery and personification, Marquarts coming from North Dakota is well known of the upper midwest entering north a “road so lonely, restless, and devoid of rises and curves,” as she is familiar with the roads of the upper North Dakota. As she considers the midwest as, place that’s been considered devoid of stories, a fly over region one most endure to get to more more interesting places(33). Marquart considers the midwest as a “fly over region” referring to the states as a region were people only fly over to arrive at more “interesting places,” while using imagery to describe the states. The use of imagery showing
For the second half of the reading the narrator is able to hit the last significant and important parts of his story and is able to close the book for the readers. During the first part of the reading O’Brien describes a man who he killed, he goes on to imagine a whole life for the man. I think O’Brien does this because he’s caught in the moment, he feels so guilty and the thought and the physically appearance of the dead man keeps reappearing and stays on the back on his mind. We also learn about when one of the characters, Norman Bowker, goes back home and finds himself almost lost. Even though he is away from the war and time has passed by, all he can think about is the past, including a high school crush, but mostly about the war. This
Emotions and Burdens – “They carried all the emotional baggage of men who might die. Grief, terror, love, longing – these were intangibles, but they were tangible weight.”(20). O’brien, as well as his platoon members, had to b prepared for death at any given point in time, whether it be his own death or the death of his comrade in arms.
As I read 13 Hours, I wonder why people would consider doing something this cruel and inhumane let alone actually do the action. You wrote this book to inform us of the tragic events that happened on September 11, 2012. Writing to you, Mitchell Zuckoff, will help me understand the motives behind the attacks and further understand the causes of this tragic event. Reading 13 Hours changed me and helped realize all the bad in the world. I can also see good will always overpower evil.
Trying to belong sometimes affects people in a way that isn’t healthy for them or the people around them, changing to be something you're not is sometimes extremely tough and it hurts
Refugees, like Ha, came across many challenges on their journey, It was a traumatic experience for all, people lost their homes, friends, family and their lives. An example from the book inside out and back again say,“head whirls breath stinks for days.”(Lia)They don't have the resources to be clean and that's not the their biggest priority. Another example from the book is, ”food and water are provided but rationed.”(Gevert)There's so many refugees in one little area they don't have enough food or water to feed all of them. A quote from the article Refugees Who, where, why says,“Three civilians were killed three others are wounded last night when an explosion ripped through a crowded food market.”(Gevert) You always need to be aware of your
The way i interpret this quotes is that it’s saying that this character tries to judge people by their aurora, or personality, instead of their physical body. I can relate this back to myself because this is how i usually try to judge people, because you can never tell what a person has been through or experienced by just looking at their physical appearance. While i believe wholeheartedly that the physical appearance of a person shouldn't affect they way they are treated i agree with the way that this character adds on the “or at least how i try” because when you first meet someone , before you have a conversation with them, their physical appearance is all the information you have to go on. In a way physical appearance is the earliest and easiest way to categorize a person. I like to think that i personally go back ,after first making an assumption based on , and form a new opinion based on proven facts .
Journal 1 “ Beat her i say” (Walker 36) (CD) This quote is showing that Celie’s insecurity is lower that it has been through out the book. You tell she is envious of Sofia the way she sticks up for herself, and during that time she tells Harpo to beat Sofia. This is all because she wants someone else to be abused other than her.
