On June 20, 2014, the Department obtained emergency custody through C&P of Ryan due to neglect by mother Heather Martin. Mother was arrested by Burlington Police on 6/16/14 for larceny; shoplifting and three counts of receiving stolen property. Heather was taken to at MCI Framingham. The family was placed in a hotel through Department of Transitional Assistance. It was against the hotel policy for children to be left in the hotel unsupervised, and Ryan and Bria were staying alone in the room for five days. This was deemed concerning for the two children to not have an appropriate caregiver. When the Department was made aware of the situation father Brian Scopa 's whereabouts were unknown to the Department. Family members were contacted that could possibly take the children in. However, uncle Stephen Martin, aunt Cindy Fiore and Grandmother Carroll Clinton were unable to do so for various reasons. Given that there were no family members to take Ryan and Bria in, the Department placed them in a temporary Hotline foster care placement from the 6/20/14 to 6/23/14 until a more suitable living arrangement was made available. On 6/23/14 Ryan and his sister were placed in a kinship home of a family friend.

Judge Thomas's past has created the conservative view points he now holds. Growing up in Georgia, his family did not have his father around since he left at a young age. After a fire left his family homeless he was sent to live with his grandfather. Clarence Thomas learned the life skills he needed and eventually had the dream of becoming a priest and working in the religious community. Dealing with racism at his boarding school he eventually canceled his dream of being a priest and wanted to work in law, even though his grades were exceptional. His rough upbringing caused him to believe only certain laws should get changed, such as the laws of civil rights. Judge Thomas has the passion for the equal rights of all minorities. Upon attending

The author's purpose in writing the sports gene is to show the readers the difference between being born with a natural talent/gift and have years of hard work and practice to master that one subject/sport. In this case, Donald Thomas was the example of being born with a natural gift. On the other hand, we have Stefan Holm who had 25 years of practice and experience. During the competition, Donald Thomas didn't know the techniques and struggled at the beginning. While Holm had years of experience and time to perfect the techniques. Holm did not struggle, he easily passed all the bars without having to repeat them. Thomas came in 4th place and took a year to practice. "He slowed down so drastically as h approached the bar that it seemed

“Maybe sometimes people did not actually change. Maybe you just never knew who they really were.” (Picture Quotes.com) This quote is very relatable to many people, but perhaps more so to Thomas, Bears Brother, Black Bull because Thomas lived through the impossible, and he changed, but no one knew, truly, who he was. Thomas is a very strong, independent, Ute Indian, and is the main character in the novel When the Legends Die by Hal Borland. This marvelous book is cleverly broken into four sections; “Bessie“, “The School“, ‘The Arena“, and “The Mountains“. In each component of the book Thomas changes in various, complicated ways, but the two sections where Thomas changes the most are in “Bessie” and “The Arena.” However certain similarities for each characteristic of Tom are unmistakable. Tom is a man torn between two worlds, his Indian heritage and the world of white men and new ways. Tom’s physical appearance, actions, and emotions are the strongest variations, and yet in some ways remain the same, for his character.
