Radiation therapy is an important practice in a lot of hospital and clinics many people are not aware of. It is also known as Radiation Oncology, and it is for the treatment of cancer by using beams of high-energy waves called radiation as the UI Cancer Information Services defined it. Radiation therapy plays important role in helping cure cancer. Radiation therapy is given to cancer patients in order to kill the cancer cells or it may slower the growth of cancer cells (UI Cancer Information Services, 2011). Therapy can be used to reduce pain or pressure by shrinking tumor, in cases where cure is not possible. There are two ways in order to acquire education in radiation therapy. The one is the associate degree in radiation therapy and the other is the bachelor’s degree. Firstly talking about an associate's degree in radiation therapy, this degree is the minimum educational standards that required by the one who employ. In this degree students get to learn how to use the equipment of the radiation therapy. Secondly the Bachelor's degree, which can be in radiation therapy or any, related science major. Some of the universities available are Howard University, Ohio State University, California State University,Virginia Commonwealth University.Texas State University, University of Alabama – Birmingham,St. Louis University. License requirements may vary from state to state. In order to obtain license in the state, radiation therapists needs to complete an ARRT-approved degree program and then has to pass a radiation therapy exam which is taken by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists). There are no certification necessities and certification from ARRT is voluntary but it is preferred by many of the employers. So to acquire this certificate, radiation therapists need to complete an accredited program and pass the exam of ARRT for certification (Butler,2013).
Considering the opportunities for radiation therapists it is seen that radiation therapists work mainly in hospitals, cancer treatment centers, physician offices
