In my opinion, the responsibilities and duties of a Radiologic Technologist is to accurately position patients for examination, know the protocols necessary, know radiation guidelines and provide best possible patient care. Some attributes that are necessary for the job is attention to detail because its necessary to get the best possible diagnoses for the patient by getting the right image of the injured body part. Empathy because the patients need to feel comfortable, because the patient will most likely be in pain or scared and you have to be understanding and be sympathetic toward them. Willingness to listen and to learn because Im not going to know everything and I need to know what to do for rare cases and be willing to listen to those
These people may not splint broken bones, give shots, or give medications, but these people help with all other areas of the healthcare industry. I chose this field to talk about because my uncle, Martin Slone, works at Pikeville Medical Center as a Radiologist Technician. What is a Radiologist Technician? A Radiologist Technician is a person who uses different types of machines to take pictures of the insides of bodies. These pictures can help doctors see if someone is injured or has something wrong with different parts of the body.
X-ray techs with limited operator helps patients prepare for exams. They explain the procedures to the patient in step by step detail. Patient education is always the most import part of any role.
I hope to continue my education by attending West Virginia University. At WVU, I plan to study to become a radiology technician. I have always dreamed of working in the medical field. Radiology technicians are people who take x-rays, MRIs, mammograms, and images like that. The technician is also in charge of making sure the patient is safe in the process of imaging being taken. After completing my studies at WVU, I wish to find an available job in the state of West Virginia or a surrounding state. I have always dreamed of working the medical field, and being a radiology technician seems to be the career for
A radiology technician is a medical person who specializes in taking pictures of injuries through the use of medical imaging techniques like x-rays, CT scans, MRI’s, and Ultrasounds.(Becoming) To become a radiology technician, you must have graduated from an accredited college with at least an associate's degree and passes a licensing examination. To be a radiology technician, there are many skills required to be in contact with a lot of people everyday. You must have good thinking skills, so you can solve complex problems and answer diagnostic questions, and make sure your thinking is within logic and you have good reasoning behind your choice. One of the biggest things in any profession is to be a team player.
Although I was aware that some rad techs were practicing in some states without a license; I was still surprise by this report, which states that the Sunset Advisory Commission recommends eliminating the need licensure for nearly 20 medical occupations. Including the one we are majoring in. In the last couple months, we have learned a substantial amount of information on patient dose, dose limits, proper shielding and the roles we are going to play as technologist as well as our responsibilities and how the choices that we make can either have a positive or negative effects on our patients if we are not careful or if the radiation is mishandled. This being said what I found even more surprisingly is that the Commission is under the assumption that the “deregulation of radiologic technologist” would have minimal consequences on patient safety.
Highest Marks on Junior Writing Exam (2016) The Junior Writing Exam is an analytical exercise that gauges the ability of juniors to compellingly analyze a short story or poem. I received the highest possible score on this exam.
A radiologist technician, also known as a radiographers, performs diagnostic imaging examinations such as x-rays, MRI, and CT scans on patients. Radiologist perform medical imaging on injuries such as broken bones, dislocated joints, torn muscles and diseases (Occupational Outlook Handbook). Then they use the radiographic imaging to diagnose the patient with the injury they may have. As a radiologist technician, you start out performing x-ray on patients. To advance in this career you would advance to performing CT scans and MRIs
My dream has always been to go to college. I want to attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska in the fall of 2017. I want to go into Radiological Technician. There is a new environment, new people to meet, and many more experiences to get a fresh start of college. Growing up in a small town to going to a larger city. I am anxious to gain more knowledge and education about the Radiological Technician program at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. I have been interested in going into the medical field. Back in eighth grade I found out about this career called Radiological Technician and learned about it. Till this day I still want to go into the medical field to become a Radiological Technician.
However, if you are willing to take that option and you are wanting to become a Radiation Technologists, you must be willing to take a hold on the responsibilities and duties. These responsibilities and duties may be challenging, but can be extremely rewarding in the long run. You must be very patient while reading the details of an image. In order to protect your patient from radiation there must be a radiation shield over them. But, before you can get started on any x-rays, there are questions about their medical history that need to be asked first. Organizing and neatness can be a major key in keeping up with medical records of patients. Although you think your job may be just x-rays and the like, you still have a physician present in the room at all times who will be giving you instructions on where to x-ray the patient.

This book is written for everyone who wants to work in health care or not sure to enter. “One of the functions of Nuclear Medicine Technologists is to operate cameras that detect and map the radioactive drug in a patient’s body.” These cameras create an image on computer screen to provide information an x-ray through the patients. Nuclear Medicine Technologists will explain the test procedures to patients and their families. This will help you to develop your skills and determine what are you qualified for or how can you obtain your training. “Other functions of the Nuclear Medicine
Radiologic technology is a satisfying and rewarding career. It is a technical and refined science. As a radiological technologist, there are many essential duties and responsibilities that have to be fulfilled in order to be a good one. First of all, radiological technologists have to maintain a well-mannered and professional behavior when gathering information. They have to assure their patients that they are in good hands therefore; they give patients the uppermost quality of care and services. Second of all, the main responsibility of a healthcare provider is to keep all knowledge of a patient’s health record confidential or secluded. That means radiological technologists cannot talk about patients at home or with friends and classmates
Being a technologist requires retaining lots of information and make sure you apply that information correctly. Technologist need to know what it takes to make the best quality image, otherwise they are not helping the department provide good patient care by taking a good radiographic film. The Radiology field is constantly changing, technologists always need to be aware of the changes and know how to apply the changes. “Radiology took great steps forward by providing exquisitely detailed depictions of anatomic and biologic information” (Margulis, 2010). Our technology today has advanced us to create amazing quality images. As a technologist your main priority is patient care, and in order to provide the best patient care, you need to provide that detailed film to help diagnosis the patient’s pathology. Knowing the equipment is so important when dealing with X-ray, there are so many different systems and each one operates differently. As a professional you have to work with your coworkers and the patient to create that image. Making sure your patient knows what to do is also a huge factor in creating that
The radiographer also ensures that procedures are carried out in accord with the appropriate operational and safety protocols regarding exposure, such as the location of individuals in the X-ray room, signage, and the provision and use of exposure-limiting protective gear. The radiographer ensures the appropriate and proper safety precautions are used throughout the procedure (Unett and Royle,
To undertake radiographic imaging to a high standard whilst ensuring that radiation dose is ensured to a minimum using the ALARA principle including the use of dose reduction factors, provide a high standard of technique and patient positioning and standards are maintained. Ensure that the Ionising Radiation (for Medical Exposure) Regulations AE(RP)R 2004 are adhered, work alone at particular times, keep accurate patient records including recording radiation dose and exposure factors, participate in the department Quality Assurance equipment testing programme, use the Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient registration, X-ray ordering and scheduling. Recording accurate patient information relating to dose and use of consumables, use
Technologists assist the radiologist during specific procedures and lastly and most importantly they assist the patients while in his or her care because the patient is the most important person in the hospital.
