Introduction
One would think that making the decision to attend college would be simple, but for myself this was not the case. I already had a career working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. As a result, I was able to travel and live in numerous cities that I may not have been able to visit otherwise. Consequently, the past ten years of my life had been spent moving from one mission assignment to another, changing planes, living in hotels and missing countless Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations. These factors made my decision to come back to college much easier. My new mission is to receive a degree in Radiology Technology.
My Program
It is my goal to enter into to the Radiologic Technology Program at Del Mar College in the summer of 2016. According to the Radiologic Technology Program Information Packet (RTPIP),

Both courses introduced me the some of the basic skills and terms that I will need to competently accomplish my duties as a Radiology Technician. Secondly, Medical Terminology has provided me with a basic understanding of all the organ systems in the human body and I believe it has aided in my success in Anatomy and Physiology I. As for Basic Health Profession Skills this course alone can be considered valuable to most wanting to enter into a health profession. It is my opinion that this course has single handedly prepared me for just some of the sights, sounds, and smells that I will encounter in a medical facility. Moreover, this course has effectively informed me of the proper ways to interact with patients and their families as well as doctors and other staff members. For me this is an exceptionally important lesson to learn since it does not matter how competently you perform your duties as a health care provider, if you are unable to respect those around
This class has taught multiple skills required to be a paramedic. Some of these skills are assessing an injured person with a possible spine fracture, how to properly handle the situation while getting them inside the ambulance, and how to properly use the instruments and tools necessary for the given situations. I was also taught how to perform two major ways of CPR, also depending on if the patient has a back injury making it impossible for us to move them. Among these skills, we also learned about all the various systems of the body, their structures, functions and how to handle a situation in which a specific system is at risk or needs to be treated. The actual skills are very important to learn, but so is the medical terminology that is involved. This was another attribute of the medical field that this class helped me expand my knowledge in. These are all important pieces of information and skills that one has to develop and improve on in order to advance in the medical field, and one way to improve is by learning about the very basics of the human
I’m a current surgical technologist student at Robert Morris University and I’m also pursuing my bachelors degree while in the surgical technology program. I have taken many science classes that have prepared me for the program and have completed two quarters of surgical technologist classes and labs.
Upon graduating high school, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. I didn’t want to be like a lot of my friends and use college as an excuse to party all night and be lazy all day. So I decided to apply for a full time position as a diesel mechanic at Utility Fleet Sales so that I could at least begin earning income. Soon after starting this position, I realized that I wanted more. I decided to attend night classes at Blinn community college while continuing to work full time. I had no idea on what degree I wanted to work towards, but for the first time in my life I began to enjoy school. As I finished my first year at Blinn and second year working as a technician, I was promoted to an inside parts associates. This position introduced me to inventory management, building relationships with customers, cost management and basic accounting. I really enjoyed applying the mechanical knowledge I learned from working as a technician, towards my new position of
I believe I have become more cynical over the years of being in health care and going through this course has not helped that very much. I often think to myself “Why am I in a customer service oriented job?” The entitlement people expect is mind blowing. However, I also think that my perception of health care is growing positively because of the different class and subjects that have been touched on throughout this course. I have a better understanding of the process it takes to get a law passed in our government, how to outcomes, and how to design a facility floor plan. Health care is changing quickly with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the amount of patients with the ability to get medical care. The amount of providers was not increased to help handle to large increase in patients. Patients are struggling to make appointments in a timely fashion because of the increased volume of calls on the call centers or front office staff. Patients are waiting longer periods of time to get an appointment because of the increased volume of patients. Doctors have the ability to not be enrolled as a provider in health care plans and that limits the availability of doctors that are able to treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid.
The programme enabled me to face obstacles and new challenges with confidence. I improved my leadership ability, organization and distributing material covering the many aspects of work done in the course. I learnt the importance of clear, concise communication while improving my organising ability. Voluntarily assisting at college open days, I was able to convey complex messages to prospective students in ways that these students could understand clearly without misconstruing information. In radiography clarity and precision are vital in diagnosis of injuries and
My topic that I am researching is a Radiology Technician. Basically, their job is to help Physicians take x-rays and to help them out with the readings. They also perform cat scans, ultrasounds, and radiation therapy. This article informs the reader of the job duties and occupational specialties. It tells them what they need to be able to do, such as noticing detail and clearly communicating. It also provides them with educational and preparation opportunities. The training is provided and the work environment is in mainly hospitals or, if you are in combat, a mobile field hospital (#10). They need to be physically ready, able and willing to perform their duties. They have to be very alert and vigilant in trying to study and notice the
Radiologist often need a grade point average higher than 3.7 to get into universities that they will benefit the most from. Harvard University requires their students to have a 3.93 GPA and an MCAT score of 37 out of 45. Johns Hopkins University demand a 3.91 and an MCAT score of 36. The University of Pennsylvania needs their students to acquire a GPA of 3.88 and an MCAT score of 38. The University of Washington requires an MCAT score of 31 and a GPA of 3.73. Aspiring radiologist have a long process to go through before they become certified professionals.
I will be entering the associate’s degree program in Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging this fall semester and my journey to this program started at LaGuardia Community College where I was a student taking English as a Second Language. I immigrated to the United States a little over five years with my son to live with my husband and I am very excited that I got accepted to the Radiologic Technology program at New York City College of Technology. I will be the first one in my siblings to be educated in another country and I hope to not only make my mother proud but show my children that education through hard work is an important key to success in life. The program at LaGuardia was very difficult and challenging, especially learning English as an
Twenty-six years ago. I began the quest to find the perfect college. As I drove down the driveway of Bay Path College, I knew this was the college I was going to attend. I was drawn to the rural setting, the beautiful campus and the small academic community. My intent for life after high school was to get my associates degree, earn some money, then begin working toward my bachelor degree. In retrospect, I did not possess the confidence or drive needed to be a good student. I struggled for the next couple of years to earn my Associates degree, however was apprehensive to commit to the time or expense it would take to continue my education. After a very long break in schooling, I now approach education with a new mindset and ready to commit
Advancement opportunities are trade schools, colleges, and universities that offer MRI technology programs. A person could acquire job experience by volunteering. The top 3 colleges to attend to become a MRI Technician at are : Baker College Online, Kaplan University, and Strayer University. You could find more at right here.
My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a bachelor’s degree in science. My career vision is to one day be a Radiologic technician. On the other hand, I am certain that if I do not complete my college degree, I would not have the opportunity to achieve my career goals. To me, acquiring a career as a radiologic technician is the most appealing career because it is a respected profession dedicated to helping people remain healthy. My career goal is to help others and be challenged as an individual, and becoming a radiologic technician will allow me to reach my goals. I had the opportunity to observe a number of diffusion tensor imaging, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging at Jersey Community Hospital. During that time, I witnessed
Based on my strong assessment report I got radiologic technician as my top occupation and I’m interested to learn more about it. The types of knowledge that is needed is providing customer service, diagnose and treat human injuries, structure of English language, computer hardware, and physics. Some crucial skills needed for a Radiologic Technician is active listening, giving information effectively, reading comprehension, social perceptiveness, writing effectively, and having technology skills. The work environment is indoors and the activities are assisting people, working directly to the public, getting information, updating new knowledge relevant to this job, and communicating with supervisors by telephone. A Radiologic Technician relates
As a future student doctor the qualities that I adhere to are trustworthiness, humility, and passion. As a medical student, those qualities will show during interactions with faculty and staff and in particular with patients. I will earn trustworthiness by being punctual and following through with schedule events. I will show humility by keeping in mind that I can always learn something new from every interaction, whether it is between faculty, patients, or peer physicians. My passion for medicine will show during patient interactions, this will also be evident by my eagerness to learn. My past experiences as an Aerospace medical technician with the United State Air Force has giving me a glimpse of what I could expect from practicing medicine
Radiographs have always been something that I find interesting since studying Higher Physics. Having the ability to see inside the human body without opening it up is fascinating, and then being able to diagnose the patient would be very rewarding.
Classes I found helpful was: 1.) EMS 401: Seminar in Allied Health, this class really open my eyes to various healthcare providers and professions that I was not aware of prior to the PHS program. I was a former radiologic science major (with an interest in radiation therapy). After not being accepted into the radiologic science program; the EMS 401 class help me reevaluate my decisions concerning radiation therapy. It was really helpful and I still own the textbook used in EMS 401.
