Radiology Technician Personal Statement

This class has taught multiple skills required to be a paramedic. Some of these skills are assessing an injured person with a possible spine fracture, how to properly handle the situation while getting them inside the ambulance, and how to properly use the instruments and tools necessary for the given situations. I was also taught how to perform two major ways of CPR, also depending on if the patient has a back injury making it impossible for us to move them. Among these skills, we also learned about all the various systems of the body, their structures, functions and how to handle a situation in which a specific system is at risk or needs to be treated. The actual skills are very important to learn, but so is the medical terminology that is involved. This was another attribute of the medical field that this class helped me expand my knowledge in. I’m a current surgical technologist student at Robert Morris University and I’m also pursuing my bachelors degree while in the surgical technology program. I have taken many science classes that have prepared me for the program and have completed two quarters of surgical technologist classes and labs.

Upon graduating high school, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. I didn’t want to be like a lot of my friends and use college as an excuse to party all night and be lazy all day. So I decided to apply for a full time position as a diesel mechanic at Utility Fleet Sales so that I could at least begin earning income. Soon after starting this position, I realized that I wanted more. I decided to attend night classes at Blinn community college while continuing to work full time. I had no idea on what degree I wanted to work towards, but for the first time in my life I began to enjoy school. As I finished my first year at Blinn and second year working as a technician, I was promoted to an inside parts associates. This position introduced me to inventory management, building relationships with customers, cost management and basic accounting. I believe I have become more cynical over the years of being in health care and going through this course has not helped that very much. I often think to myself “Why am I in a customer service oriented job?” The entitlement people expect is mind blowing. However, I also think that my perception of health care is growing positively because of the different class and subjects that have been touched on throughout this course. I have a better understanding of the process it takes to get a law passed in our government, how to outcomes, and how to design a facility floor plan. Health care is changing quickly with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the amount of patients with the ability to get medical care. The amount of providers was not increased to help handle to large increase in patients. Patients are struggling to make appointments in a timely fashion because of the increased volume of calls on the call centers or front office staff. Patients are waiting longer periods of time to get an appointment because of the increased volume of patients. Doctors have the ability to not be enrolled as a provider in health care plans and that limits the availability of doctors that are able to treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid.

The programme enabled me to face obstacles and new challenges with confidence. I improved my leadership ability, organization and distributing material covering the many aspects of work done in the course. I learnt the importance of clear, concise communication while improving my organising ability. Voluntarily assisting at college open days, I was able to convey complex messages to prospective students in ways that these students could understand clearly without misconstruing information. My topic that I am researching is a Radiology Technician. Basically, their job is to help Physicians take x-rays and to help them out with the readings. They also perform cat scans, ultrasounds, and radiation therapy. This article informs the reader of the job duties and occupational specialties. As a future student doctor the qualities that I adhere to are trustworthiness, humility, and passion. As a medical student, those qualities will show during interactions with faculty and staff and in particular with patients. Radiographs have always been something that I find interesting since studying Higher Physics. Having the ability to see inside the human body without opening it up is fascinating, and then being able to diagnose the patient would be very rewarding.

Classes I found helpful was: 1.) EMS 401: Seminar in Allied Health, this class really open my eyes to various healthcare providers and professions that I was not aware of prior to the PHS program. I was a former radiologic science major (with an interest in radiation therapy). After not being accepted into the radiologic science program; the EMS 401 class help me reevaluate my decisions concerning radiation therapy. It was really helpful and I still own the textbook used in EMS 401.
